1
Day 1: Bangkok

Touch down in Thailand's capital. After checking into our hotel there'll be time for DIY exploring, a massage or lying by the pool to catch the first of that sweet tropical sunshine. Later we'll rendezvous back at base so you can hear what's in store for the trip, then the night is yours to enjoy authentic Pad thai & the Khao San road nightlife.

Accommodation: Nouvo City Hotel (or similar)

2
Day 2: Bangkok to Kanchanaburi

The Royal Palace and its 61 acres of incredible buildings will be number one on today's to do list. We'll start the day early, with so much to see there's no time to waste. Just listing today's sites gives us the butterflies, and we'll take it all in with our Local Guide leading the charge. Armed with more Local knowledge than we know what to do with, get ready to explore. Bangkok, you've been a dream, but the show must go on! Fast becoming a must-visit in this part of the world, we make tracks to our next destination, the sleepy town of Kanchanaburi to really get local. Next up, we'll visit the WWII Cemetery and the Bridge on River Kwai. There's nothing like getting some local transport to keep things interesting, so we'll pop into a boat along the River Kwai where we'll reach our home for the night, the The Jungle Raft Hotel, Kanchanaburi. Rooms lit by candle light are what you'll be greeted with, followed by a delicious included dinner of local specialities at dusk. You can even jump in the river directly from your room. Amazing! Because of course here at Contiki we like to keep things a bit special. Tonight as we watch the sunset over the landscape we'll no doubt be toasting our first full day on the trip and contemplating just how good life is.

We’ll make a stop in the UNESCO listed city of Ayutthaya, once the capital of Kingdom of Siam before being destroyed by the Burmese in the 18th Century. We'll grab bikes & ride past ornate temples, towering spires and beautiful palaces. Later, we board our overnight train to Chiang Mai. Lay back and relax this evening, as we journey towards Chiang Mai.

We’ll see some iconic street art and monuments in between food stops at family restaurants and street vendors. It was such a great mix of adventure and partying. I loved getting to know more about the culture and being able to have some free time to enjoy what I wanted to see.

I loved being taken into local villages, and sharing culturally-immersive experiences as a group. Our guide Rhi made it feel like we were home, every step of the way. From the elephant sanctuary, to the Vespa After Dark Tour, and all the surprise add-ons in-between, made it feel like the trip of my dreams had finally come true. The special stays were a big highlight for me, as I know I would’ve never made it there if I hadn’t joined Contiki; taking care of all the logistics to bring us those heightened experiences. Would give a 10/10! Very easy to book, the easiest way to travel is with Contiki!

The trip was amazing. We got to see all of Thailand going to the North and South. The experiences were really authentic and probably not something you would experience if you booked a trip on your own. I made some really great memories that I’ll cherish forever, and our trip manager Rhi was the best. The trip was super easy and convenient to book. The only thing that could have been done better is notifying us that the trip had different stages, so we had people coming and going throughout different phases of the trip. Although this didn’t personally affect me, I know some people who joined halfway through were disappointed that they missed the experiences and stories from the first half, as they weren’t aware they were coming in late. Apart from that, everything was great.

The overall organisation & general management of the trip was top tier, even despite minor changes due to flooding in certain areas a change in course of action was made to still involve those activities . I wish there was a lot more time to visit the beach and islands such as the phi phi islands, though this is just my personal opinion. But overall I had an amazing experience in Thailand , and a great first time experience overseas. I would like to personally accomodate my contiki guide Rhi , she brings so much to the table including her management , constant support & overall her ability to bring so much joy and energy going into each day ! Rhi supported myself and my friends not only through the contiki but also took the time and effort to support us outside the contiki tour and in a different whole country , Rhi is an absolute credit to the contiki team!

Everyday was full of something, always options to join the group and our manager gave us great recommendations if we preferred something alternative. Really easy to contact people and discuss options when some trips were unable to take me booking very last minute.

The Total Thailand tour was beyond amazing. It is an expensive trip but I felt I got the value for the money paid. It is a modular trip starting with North Thailand moving into South Thailand. North Thailand has a very intense schedule. South Thailand is more relaxed and gives you some time to breathe. There is another modular trip after South Thailand, but I think these two weeks were good enough. You meet a lot people and you become friends by the end of the trip. I’m a person who likes to organize everything myself so it was weird to let everything be planned for me, and just trust the process. This trip also has a lot of add on options for things to do which you can pick when you get there. Not everyone has to do everything and there is alot of variety in the activities you can do. The last few days it was nice to just sit and relax at the beach and not do any activities. Before the trip on the Contiki website there is a combined chat function with everyone on all parts of the modular trip. This would help to make plans with some people as some people get into the city 1-2 days before the start of the trip. A lot of people didn’t know about it so it doesn’t get used. Communication with the group before the trip starts, feels last minute. A WhatsApp group is set up but I wish it was set up earlier. I am travelling from far away, and I was already travelling before getting any information about the trip. I wish there was more communication before the start of the trip. Also on the trip they provide more detailed info papers on what the program is / what to expect for the next 1-2 days. I wish this was given to us early. It would have helped with packing. There are days on this trip where you need to pack an overnight bag. Since information isn’t provided well in advance I found myself having to keep reorganizing myself and repack a few times.
