Experience Overview

Renowned as one of the most beautiful places on Earth, Cape Town and its surroundings provide a stunning backdrop for this cycling tour. Our unique circular route allows us to take in the fantastic sights of the Cape Peninsula. In addition to Table Mountain and the chance to sample wine from the Stellenbosch estates, the wild coastline and rugged interior provide classic riding on peaceful roads with little traffic. The scenery, a rich cultural history, unique flora, and unusual wildlife encounters make this a fantastic destination to discover on two wheels.

Weather Information
February is the hottest month in Cape Town with an average temperature of 23C (73F). June is the coldest month of the year with an average temperature of 13C (55F). At the times we run most of our trips, expect warm days with the temperatures around 20C (68F). The best time to see the carpets of wildflowers and fruit blossoms is August and September. In summer, the southeasterly wind can blow up to 43mph (70kph) at least a few times a month. This helps to cool things off but can be a little tiring if cycling into it. Our programme is flexible enough to accommodate any major changes in weather, and yet still be enjoyable.

Accommodation

Hotels, Lodges and Guesthouses
We have selected a combination of three- and four-star hotels and lodges for this cycling adventure across the Western Cape. Each property is well located for our cycling or for nearby attractions. Many of the hotels and lodges have lovely views and most have pools. The normal accommodations used on this trip can be found on the day-to-day itinerary; however, below are a few of the notable places we stay. Montague: Montague Hotel (night 3) Between the Cape Winelands and the Garden Route is the Montague Hotel, an architectural gem that opened in 1875. It was refurbished with original art deco and Victorian furniture and has two swimming pools, two restaurants, a spa and a flower-filled garden. An idyllic stop while travelling through the Langeberg mountains. Hermanus: Windsor Hotel (nights 7-8) The 120-year-old Windsor Hotel sits opposite Walker Bay, one of the best whale-watching destinations in the world when southern right whales migrate to the bay to breed (July to November). Whale-watching is even possible from the comfort of the hotel restaurant. However, the location of the property is also ideal out of season with a central setting within town and quick access to the 7.5mi (12km) Hermanus Cliff Path. Simonstown: Quayside Hotel (nights 9-10) This bright and breezy boutique hotel is centrally located in Simonstown on the water’s edge. Rooms are outfitted with an elegant nautical design and have views of either the Simonskloof mountains or False Bay.

Itinerary

1
Day 1: Start Cape Town; free day to explore

We arrive in Cape Town. The day is free to relax, shop, catch a few rays or explore the endless activities in and around the city. The guide can advise and assist, but here are a few recommended options: a cable car ride up Table Mountain for fantastic views over Cape Town and the coast; a visit to the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens; or a half-day trip to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela and other members of the ANC served long prison sentences (this trip can be done on Day 12, depending on the weather on Table Mountain). Accommodation: City Lodge Hotel Victoria & Alfred Waterfront (or similar)

2
Day 2: Ride over Hellshoogte, passing vineyards; to Stellenbosch

This morning, we have a short transfer from our lodge to the harbour and then we cycle to Bloubergstrand, where the iconic pictures of Cape Town with Table Mountain as a backdrop are taken. After taking the obligatory photos, we have a short transfer into the centre of the winelands. In the afternoon, we cycle over Hellshoogte (Hell's Heights) and then freewheel the rest of the way to the Boschendal vineyards where we stop for a well-earned drink (optional) before transferring to our accommodation in Stellenbosch. Accommodation: San Gabriel Homestead (or similar)

3
Day 3: Ride the Franschhoek Pass

In the morning, we have a short transfer before cycling through Franschhoek and up the Franschhoek Pass (2,425ft/739m) for some of the most breath-taking views in the region. We then continue to cycle to Villiersdorp. After lunch, we cycle towards Nuy Valley and then take a short transfer to Montague. Accommodation: Montague Hotel (or similar)

4
Day 4: Ride through the semi-arid desert of Great Karoo

Today we head east, cycling from our accommodation in Montague to our accommodation in Barrydale. Along the way, the landscape changes to the semi-arid desert of the Great Karoo, a huge ancient plateau making up almost a third of South Africa's landmass and littered with remains of ancient indigenous cultures. We cycle a scenic backroad traversing a more fertile region known as the Little Karoo, a short climb brings us to the Tradouws Plateau before arriving in Barrydale, our base for the night. This quiet old Dutch village is in a fertile valley surrounded by a colourful mix of vines, fruits and wildflowers (in season). While here, we visit a local co-op cellar and have an opportunity to taste their produce, including the well-respected local chardonnay. Accommodation: Karoo Art Hotel (or similar)

5
Day 5: Ride through Langeberg Mountains to Bontebok National Park

After breakfast, a short climb takes us up and over the spectacular Tradouws Pass. Near the top are the remains of a prison camp once home to the convicts that constructed the pass in 1873. From here, the route is mainly downhill through the Langeberg Mountains to the small town of Suurbrak. Built by the London Missionary Society in 1812, many of the buildings have been restored and now the town has the feel of a living museum. Moving on, we reach our base for the night, Swellendam. From here, we drive to the Bontebok National Park, home to rare antelope, mountain zebras and endangered crane species. The park has two 1.2mi (2km) self-guided nature trails, which can be explored independently. Accommodation: Aanhuizen Guest House or Aan de Eike Guest House (or similar)

6
Day 6: Ride and transfer to Cape Agulhas National Park, the southernmost point in Africa

A short transfer (12mi/20km) brings us into the Overberg district, and we cycle through the cultivated farmlands of the Western Cape to Bredasdorp. The road gently rolls through neat wheat fields and remote fishing villages facing the Indian Ocean, arriving at Cape Agulhas. This is the southernmost point in Africa, and the newest national park in the country, encompassing vast wetlands, coastline and extending some kilometres out to sea. Whales and other sea life that frequent the warm Indian Ocean here enjoy the protection. It also provides a home to thousands of sea birds and seals that can be seen along the rugged beaches. Accommodation: Cape Agulhas Guest House (or similar)

7
Day 7: Cycle towards Hermanus; sample local beer at Birkenhead

This morning, we cycle through the picturesque hamlet of Elim and past 34mi (55km) of undulating farmlands to the coastal town of Kleinbaai. Following lunch, we take a short transfer into Stanford where we can sample local beer at the Birkenhead Brewery. We finish our day in the town of Hermanus, famous for the very close sightings of the southern right whale, which come into the secluded bay to mate and calf each year from June to November. In the afternoon, we have the option of cycling from one of the local viewpoints of Walker Bay along the Hermanus coastal road to our accommodation, offering the best chance of spotting the whales. Accommodation: Windsor Hotel (or similar)

8
Day 8: Free day to relax in Hermanus

We have a free day today to rest our legs in Hermanus. In the 1920s, the town was known as a place to convalesce and was being recommended from as far afield as London. Grand hotels were built and its reputation as a holiday resort was established. It still manages a delightful balance between the two industries of fishing and tourism. In addition to this, the World Wildlife Foundation recognises Hermanus as among the best places in the world for whale watching. Our September to October departures give the best opportunity to see whales swimming off the coast. Accommodation: Windsor Hotel (or similar)

9
Day 9: Ride the Whale Coast to Gordon's Bay

Today we cycle the Whale Coast, from Hermaus to Gordon's Bay, one of the most scenic rides in the world. The road follows the rugged coastline, passing through fishing villages with dramatic views over False Bay and the Cape of Good Hope. Along the route, there is a good chance our efforts will be encouraged by numerous troops of Cape baboon. Today is the longest cycle day, but those preferring a shorter ride can catch a lift in the support bus for part of the journey. We transfer at the end of the day from Gordon's Bay to Simonstown. Accommodation: Quayside Hotel (or similar)

10
Day 10: Cape Peninsula ride; visit penguin colony

After breakfast, an 18mi (30km) transfer brings us to the Cape Point Nature Reserve. We then walk from the Cape of Good Hope to the old lighthouse at Cape Point. From here, we cycle through the Cape Point Nature Reserve and then along the very scenic coastal road to the historic village of Simonstown, downhill for most of the way, with panoramic views over False Bay. After a rest stop and lunch at Boulders Beach, we visit the local penguin colony (optional). We then continue our cycle along the coastal road to our overnight accommodation. Accommodation: Quayside Hotel (or similar)

11
Day 11: Cycle to Cape Town via Chapman's Peak, Hout Bay and Camps Bay

The ride today follows part of the annual Cape Argus route, one of the largest cycling events in the world, and is arguably the most scenic route in South Africa. We complete our circuit by cycling from Glencairn over the Red Hill pass along an old navy road to Scarborough and then along the Atlantic coast via the stunning Chapman's Peak drive into Hout Bay. After lunch in Hout Bay, we cycle up Suikerbos Ridge past Llandudno and then onto Cape Town via Camp's Bay and the 12 Apostles all the way to our accommodation in Seapoint. We celebrate the end of the cycling at one of the many venues at the Waterfront. Accommodation: City Lodge Hotel Victoria & Alfred Waterfront (or similar)

12
Day 12: Optional morning visit to Robben Island; end Cape Town

The day is free for last-minute shopping, catching a few last rays of sunshine or taking the half-day trip to Robben Island before the trip ends.

Brilliant Trip A fab trip with beautiful and varied scenery, some challenging cycling with lots of wildlife along the way and great company. Most of the accommodation was really lovely and some quite special places. Restaurants choices were good and the food was excellent. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t on our side so the itinerary was changed to accommodate the conditions for a couple of days but this in no way detracted from a brilliant holiday. Most Inspirational Moment Loved the whale watching from the hotel as I never thought we would see them so clearly from the shore. Visiting the penguin colony was also great fun, although it’s possible to see the penguins from the boardwalk it was definitely worth paying to see them closer up on the beach. Thoughts on Group Leader Adonia and Ernest were amazing. They worked incredibly hard for us in what turned out to be tricky circumstances due to some heavy rain. They kept us safe on the roads, always had a plan B, kept us informed when things needed to change or provided options for us to choose as a group if there were choices available. Their local knowledge was fantastic and they seemed to enjoy sharing it with us. Nothing was too much trouble and they definitely made this trip special. Advice for Potential Travellers Be prepared for changing conditions as sun in the morning could be wind in the afternoon and can make the cycling quite challenging. This also means the itinerary may need to change due to the conditions so best to come with an open mind and be prepared to go with the flow. I bought a 3 pin plug for South Africa at the airport and it turned out to be a great purchase so would recommend bringing one. I also brought quite a bit of cash which wasn’t necessary as card payments were taken everywhere and a very small number of places (penguin colony is the one that sticks in my mind) only took cards. A couple of extra days on to the trip to explore more of Cape Town is worth it.

Cycling in the Cape This was a treat for us. Cycling in South Africa, Seeing the country and trying the wines. We did some cycling on old rental bikes, we did try some wine and we did see what a beautiful country South Africa is. Most Inspirational Moment The most inspirational moment was the last day cycling back to Cape Town along the coast beside the famous apostles in glorious sunshine. Thoughts on Group Leader He was fine as a group leader but not as cycling guide. He was never prepared for punctures or bike malfunctions. It was obvious that he had done this cycling tour for three months. He knew the route and where to go for evening meals but I had had enough of supermarket lunches. Advice for Potential Travellers Firstly there is a lot of time being transported from A to B. The Bikes are old and need to be replaced. How they can justify an extra £250 for an eBike baffles me. Beware that South Africa is a dangerous place so ask if it safe to go out on your for a walk or run. You stay in some fabulous places. The down day in Hermanus is a waste when there are no Whales to see. As always with these trips the last day is the best depending on the weather Suggestions Some of the cycling was very dangerous down roads that I would not cycle in the UK - large trucks going fast inches away from you. How can they possibly charge £250 extra for an eBike. This is South Africa where everything is half price compare to UK This is "moderate" Exodus cycle route, what happens if someone is of an age that they now cannot cope with a moderate route and as result keeps the whole party back. There was really limited wine tasting which surprised me I would not do this trip again

Cycling the Cape & Winelands 230212 I enjoyed this trip because of the beautiful scenery the nice people the nice temperaturesso many Most Inspirational Moment so many: the cape Agulas Kaap de goede hoop the penguins at Betty's the shark diving the coffeestop at Elin Thoughts on Group Leader Adonia and Ernesto were friendly people who learned us a lot about South Africa Advice for Potential Travellers Beware of crime at the ATM in the city centre of Cape Town, that happened to us before we started the trip Suggestions Maybe it is an option that the person who bikes with the group has a spare tube and a pomp. Please use another trailer for transport of the bikes because it is a lot of work to load the trailer every time and several times the group has to wait for this, for example when we had the lost day cycling back to Cape town when the bikes had to be loaded in Camps Bay I heard that Stellenbosch has a nice city centre, which we have not seen, maybe it is an option to have lunch there in stead of at a petrolstation shopping mall at the outside of Stellenbosch.

Excellent Trip The trip was fantastic thanks mainly to the group guides Andonia and Ernest. The accomdoation along the way was OK mainly but very poor in the Aanhuizen Guest House in Swellendem Most Inspirational Moment Riding Chapman's Pass. Thoughts on Group Leader Andonia was brilliant - he could not be faulted. Advice for Potential Travellers Take Immodium with you and drink only bottled water at all times.

November 2022 A wonderful trip with amazing scenery, some challenging rides and a great group to enjoy the holiday with. Most Inspirational Moment The coastal week - varied activities and fantastic scenery. Thoughts on Group Leader Ernest and Tallis really looked after us, as did Rochelle in the first few days. Nothing was too much trouble. They made sure everyone was safe and looked after on the rides. I appreciated their knowledge of the roads and their help and support. Advice for Potential Travellers There are a lot of hills on this trip! Don't hesitate to book an electric bike if you have any doubts! Suggestions Go and enjoy the scenery, wildlife, wine and people.

Accurate description of the trip An excellent holiday with variety of landscape and culture and very enjoyable cycling Most Inspirational Moment The visit to the Cape of Good Hope Thoughts on Group Leader All 3 guides, Rochelle, Tallis and Ernest were excellent and imparted a lot of knowledge to the group as well as organising and leading Advice for Potential Travellers The cycling route is really enjoyable but not for the faint hearted. There are a number of challenging climbs but the views make it all worthwhile. If in doubt-go for an ebike Suggestions The accommodation on the whole was very good but with one exception-the Aanhuizen Guest House

A Great Adventure A wonderful trip with fabulous scenery, wildlife, food and wine. Lovely cycling on good roads, some surprisingly good hotels and excellent restaurants. Most Inspirational Moment I enjoyed learning about the people, who were all so friendly. The whales were unforgettable and amazingly acrobatic and the penguins were delightful. Thoughts on Group Leader We had the dynamic duo of Adonia and Ernest. They were both so knowledgeable, patient and kind. They did everything they could to make the holiday an enjoyable experience. Advice for Potential Travellers Arrive a day or so earlier, or stay later so you have time to enjoy Cape Town and Table Mountain.

Great trip This was a great adventure through lots of stunning scenery, staying in some lovely accommodation & enjoying some really nice food & wine. It would have been nice to do more wine tasting along the way though. Most Inspirational Moment One of the highlights has to be seeing the whales come so close to our boat. I definitely recommend whale watching if you’re there in the right season - it was magical. Thoughts on Group Leader Adonia & Ernest really looked after us all. They were both very knowledgeable about everything to do with the area aswell as looking after our bikes & making sure we were safe on the roads. They worked really hard to try & ensure our trip went smoothly. Advice for Potential Travellers This is a very hilly trip, a lot hillier than we were all expecting & probably should be graded as a moderate 4 rather than 3. There’s a lot of cycling on busy main roads too, in fact the vast majority of it is on really busy roads so it’s something to be prepared for. Suggestions I would definitely recommend this trip. Some of the cycling routes were jaw dropping & I have some fantastic photos & memories.

Amazing scenery food and wine A beautiful country with amazing scenery along the challenging rides, fantastic food and wine, and what’s more it didn’t break the bank! Most Inspirational Moment Probably enjoying the company of the whales as I sat eating my breakfast overlooking the ocean in Hermanaus.. but then again I loved the quirky hotels and guesthouses with fantastic hospitality and great food and wine.. Thoughts on Group Leader Adonia was very competent and professional and had great knowledge about everything.. he could always answer our questions.. Ernest was also a great second in charge.. his experience and knowledge second to none.. Advice for Potential Travellers Make sure you get an adapter plug that you can use.. one that’s specific to South Africa with 3 round pins.. also take a back up charger as power cuts are frequent .. otherwise everything is fine, water is good to drink and you can pay by card/iPhone etc everywhere as long as the power is on

Fantastic scenery, challenging cycling A challenging 3 with plenty of uphill. Some quaint places to visit and stay. Luckily the majority of the group were like minded people. Most Inspirational Moment Completing the section over Chapman's Peak. Thoughts on Group Leader Bradley did a good job of keeping a difficult group together and was flexible in his approach to the itinerary. Sifiso, the driver was a great support to him. Bikes were fine tuned daily. Advice for Potential Travellers You need to read the trip notes before signing up. People on our tour potentially ruined this through lack of preparation. If need be I.e being more than an hour behind the leaders get in the bus and listen to the leaders advice. Suggestions Enjoy the experience come with an open mind.

This trip was awesome. One of the best cycling holidays I've done. The contrast in the scenery that you cycle through is amazing; mountains, passes, vineyards, the coast fabulous. Wine tasting at the end of a ride. Oh and the penguins! Great cycling, quite hilly but stunning, very varied. Great accommodation and very varied. Loved the penguins. Most Inspirational Moment The penguins waddling down the street holding wings!!! Thoughts on Group Leader Warren was amazing Advice for Potential Travellers There are quite a few hills so I would advise getting a few of these in before you go. Suggestions Go go go

cycling the cape and wine regions It was great trip thoroughly enjoyed it. The scenery along the coast was stunning. Accommodation was wonderful the bus and bikes in very good condition. Most Inspirational Moment Making it to the top of the passes without stopping along the way. Also the group support and that of the our leader Warren Thoughts on Group Leader Our group leader Warren was exceptional. He was passionate knowledgeable easy to approach for a chat and of course very conscious of our safety at all times. Wonderful Country, Wonderful Ride A challenging ride, for a rating of 3, through the beautiful countryside and coastline of this small part of Africa. Stopping for a few tastings of wonderful wines and visiting many iconic landmarks along the way. Add to this the natural enthusiasm and deep knowledge from the guide and a lovely group of people to share – this really was the most memorable and amazing trip. Most Inspirational Moment The ride from Simonstown to Cape Town on the last day. The climb through Chapman's Peak, the crystal clear Ocean, the lovely beaches with waves breaking were all amazing - then to finish by cycling past the 12 apostles and ending at the hotel was both inspirational and emotional. Thoughts on Group Leader Warren was very knowledgeable, has a deep love of the country and clearly is a very accomplished rider. He went out of his way to accommodate the little things that such a tour inevitably brings (a late request for optional trips, additional sections to ride, additional wine tastings etc) and did this with his full enthusiasm. Thank you for making this a truly memorable holiday. Advice for Potential Travellers This is relatively hard ride for a rating of 3. This should not put people off as there is full vehicle support, but ensure the training has been done and be prepared to hop on the vehicle at certain times. Suggestions Just enjoy this lovely country.

A really amazing trip The route of this tour encompassed all types of terrain which provided stunning views. The accommodation mainly in guesthouses was so much more interesting than staying in posh hotels. Ride those coastal roads! Stunning cycling on rugged coastal roads, spectacular gorges, though balanced by less inspiring cycling alongside wheat fields on long straight undulating roads. Some cycling on main roads with hard shoulders. Overall, cycling is a great way to see the area. Plenty of wildlife seen, land based: springbok, ostriches, blue cranes, hawks, buzzards, antelope, hamsters, tortoise, and the big 5 wet ones: penguins, seals, dolphins, sharks and whales. The wine estates were pristine, wine tastings were slick. Also plenty of craft breweries for the ale drinkers. The friendliness and service at all restaurants, cafes and accommodation was excellent, with a real desire to please. Most Inspirational Moment 1. sat on a rock next to the ocean watching the sunset over the water at the most southern point, Cape Agulhas (though this was not on the itinerary; i was late to dinner). 2. cycling Clarence Drive and Chapman's Peak along the coast, simply stunning. Thoughts on Group Leader Warren was a great leader, very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Adonia was also great, sharing the driving and cycle leader duties. The tour was very well organised. Advice for Potential Travellers Keep your wits about you in the city/towns, there are those waiting to take advantage. Use caution at cash machines, don't trust anybody, even if in uniform.

Cycling, wine and Food! This was a wine and culinary cycling adventure. The landscapes were breathtaking and our guides informative and attentive. Most Inspirational Moment Reaching the Cape summit. Those views! Thoughts on Group Leader Our group leader was an excellent cyclist who saw to everyone’s needs. He was knowledgeable and taught us about the communities we were visiting. Advice for Potential Travellers Read the trip notes... some on our trip were surprised by the number of winery stops, cycling distances and meals included (but there were no surprises...)

A great holiday/adventure Our first Exodus trip, and what a wonderful experience. The accommodation, cycling, trip leadership and support were all first class. There are two elements out of their hands – the flight (in our case with BA on superannuated 747s) and the people who pay for the holiday. Our tour party was excellent, a great and disparate group of interesting and enthusiastic people. The less said about BA’s performance the better. If we’d been unlucky enough to have been booked on the Thursday flight back to Most Inspirational Moment Three unforgettable moments: A whale watching trip from Hermanus that was the best (of quite a few) I have experienced. As my wife (who suffers from sea-sickness) said, I don't think we need to do one of those again. I can't imagine it could be bettered. Arriving at Barrydale after a longish bus transfer from Stellenbosch and a "undulating" 60 odd km ride everyone was quite tired and too late for the planned brandy-tasting. The recipe for a grumpy evening was complete, but instead it was the making of our group, bonding over a really good meal. The whole party getting to the summit of Chapman's Peak just before lunch on the last day's cycling at the same time after one of the most beautiful morning's cycling I have ever experienced. The shared experiences are the best. Thoughts on Group Leader Peter was excellent. He was always enthusiastic, determined that we should eke out every last experience available to us, and always knowing where they could be found, whether it was a venue for our evening meal, a walk to a viewpoint (when we were all tired and were less than enthusiastic ourselves) or a drive to a local beauty spot for a pre-dinner G&T. His team, Bradley and Voyu were similarly motivated to go that extra km to help us all enjoy the adventure as much as possible. Advice for Potential Travellers Go! I doubt that you'll regret it. Suggestions The cycling is challenging in parts, as much due to the wind as the gradients, but you can do it! (and if you can't the bus is not far behind you!)

A stunning holiday! If you’re looking for a great mix of exercise, wine-tasting, wildlife spotting and camaraderie, this is the trip for you! As this was our first organised holiday we approached it with some trepidation, but our expectations were surpassed many times over. Every day brought new experiences – different landscapes and vistas, unfamiliar but delicious wines, the highest quality local dishes, friendly hosts and quirky accommodation, and a developing bond between all participants as we slogged up the inclines and sailed down the descents. Most Inspirational Moment There were too many highlights over the 10 days to mention here, but the satisfaction of riding over majestic mountain passes to be rewarded with beautiful vineyard visits, seeing whales, sharks and penguins up close in their natural habitat, and swimming in the Indian ocean were some of the best. Thoughts on Group Leader Our group leader, Peter, really went the extra mile to make our trip special. He offered numerous little add-ons that were hard to resist, e.g. a hike up to a view point overlooking the Whale Coast in Hermanus, and G&Ts above Cape Agulhas at sunset. We left South Africa with so many special and unique memories thanks to the hard work of Peter and his team, Bradley and Voyu. Advice for Potential Travellers Do get reasonably fit for this trip as, although the distances aren't massive, the route is undulating and, at times, hilly, and it can be windy. You will enjoy it more if you do. You also need to factor in the wine-tasting - this is bound to make your legs a little heavier in the morning! Be open-minded about the accommodation - our hosts offered comfortable, quirky rooms that gave a fantastic flavour of local life. I will never stay in a chain hotel again!

Cycling with stunning scenery and glorious warm sunshine We have done many Exodus cycling trips and this was up there with the best. We have 4 main criteria for rating our trips (the country itself, the cycling, the food and the group of people) and each varies depending on where we go. This trip rated highly on all 4. Cape Town itself is absolutely stunning, feels safe, extremely friendly people, lots to do. The scenery on the trip is beautiful – mountains, vineyards and incredible coastline. The standard of food was very high everywhere and add in the local wine, we ate very well (favourable exchange rate makes it so cheap). The cycling has it’s challenging moments but is generally fine if you are fit and a regular cyclist. The balance of cycling and rest days has been carefully thought out and the guides were good at managing a group with cyclists of different speeds. Lovely mix of activities along the way including wine tasting, visits to National parks to see animals (Penguins, baboons, ostriches etc), short hikes, Southern most tip of Africa. We had a lovely group of people and had a lot of fun, expertly looked after by Ado and Brad. Most Inspirational Moment No individual stand out moments but so many incredible views along the way and the perfect weather in the middle of the British winter was just so wonderful. Thoughts on Group Leader This was our second cycling trip with Adonia as leader, he is very good at balancing all the group's needs, not always easy with a mixed ability group. He always put safety as a priority, but allowed enough freedom for stronger cyclists to go at their own pace when possible. He has the right balance for imparting his excellent local knowledge but not too much that people lose interest. He worked very hard to make sure everyone was happy, was organised and kept things running on time. Bradley was his co-worker who is also an experienced guide and cyclist and the two got on well and worked as a great team. Advice for Potential Travellers The hills on the cycling are mostly fine but the headwinds can be exhausting and energy sapping. On the first half of the trip the winds were against us and even on the shorter flatter days it was hard work for everyone. It's the luck of the draw though and the later longer hillier days were fine. Suggestions South Africa has so much to offer, I would really recommend this trip. Still feels a way off as far as racial equality is concerned, the black population may have political power but feels like the economic power is mainly with the white population. But so much warmth and friendliness wherever we went, we so wish we were back there now in the warm sunshine sipping wine in the waterfront with the backdrop of table mountain watching the seals flopping about in the harbour!
