Experience Overview

If you enjoy the comfort of a bed every night, we offer the Mont Blanc Circuit as a fully accommodated walking holiday, with all nights spent in a variety of lodgings from family-run two- and three-star hotels to basic inns or pensions. We include 10 walking days and three rest days, in which we cross the borders of Switzerland, Italy and France and enjoy unrivalled views of the Alps and Mont Blanc itself. Overall the trekking will feel tough with long walking days but the three rest days are incorporated to give you time to rest the legs whilst enjoying three fascinating alpine towns. Courmayeur is an old worldly Italian gem with windy pedestrian streets lined with chic shops and delightful cafes, bars and restaurants. A short, free, bus ride away is the luxurious QC Therm Spa and wellness centre, a lovely treat. Les Contamines and St Gervais are charming alpine towns with interesting local markets, electric bike hire and gondoliers taking you up to stunning view points. The last free day is in Chamonix, the vibrant heart of the Mont Blanc massif, with a wide choice of activities to try, including paragliding and taking the Aiguille du Midi cable car up to 12,605ft (3,842m) for spectacular, close-up views of Mont Blanc. The itinerary follows the same route as our camping version (trip code TWB). With your qualified International Mountain Leader (IML) guiding the way, you will complete the famous circuit, and your baggage is transported for you by our support vehicle. In most places, we use a hotel for just one night, before moving on the next day; occasionally we settle in for a few nights and use local transport to take us to the next point of the circuit.

Trip For You
This trip is graded Activity Level 4 (Moderate & Challenging). It involves 10 days of walking; two days at a Moderate level and eight days at a Challenging level. For more information on our trip gradings, visit the Activity Level Guidelines page. If you have any queries about the difficulty of the trip, please contact us. Walking profile: Most days are long, quite often involving an ascent of 3,000ft-4,000ft (900m-1200m), equivalent to three to four hours walking uphill, followed by a similar descent. On Day 2, there are two metal ladders to descend from Lac Blanc. These are secured against the rock, consist of approximately 12 steps and are not difficult to climb. The route throughout is non-technical; however, we will be walking mountain paths throughout and this trip is not advised for severe vertigo sufferers. Please be aware on days 6 and 8 we take a short bus transfer to avoid trekking on busy roads. Terrain: Although the paths are well maintained, there are sections that are rough underfoot with sometimes loose rocks, so you need to be confident in your footing and balance. Route: Most people trek the Tour du Mont Blanc anticlockwise. From years of experience we have discovered that trekking the route clockwise allows for quieter trails and avoids a tough ascent over the first couple of days. The views and walks are still just as beautiful in this direction. Preparation: As this is a group adventure, you need to be confident your fitness allows you to enjoyably walk at a consistent and steady pace that matches the group average, allowing the group to finish the day at a reasonable time. You will also enjoy the trek a great deal more if your fitness allows you to walk the route in relative ease. A Challenging-graded day would be equivalent to walking between three to five hours uphill and a similar time descending downhill, so up to nine hours in total depending on the pace (including breaks). Due to the lower altitude, climate and overall comfort of this trek, it is graded Activity Level 4 (Moderate/Challenging). The Activity Level reflects the overall endurance of the trip, not just the ease of any particular walk. Other treks with a higher Activity Level, requiring a higher overall endurance due to their remoteness, lack of facilities or average weather etc, may have shorter, easier walks. Please read the day-to-day itinerary when making comparisons to other walks/trips you may have done before. Opting out: If you are unable to walk during the itinerary and want to opt out of a day, please take note that this can sometimes be a little tricky depending on where on the circuit you are. To reach the next point you need to take a public bus (which run at limited times) or taxi (which can be expensive in a more remote location). Our support vehicle is not suitable for taking passengers, so please be aware of this when deciding to book this trip. If you miss a part of the itinerary, any extra transport, hotel and food cost will be at your expense. GPS measurements: All ascents, descents and distances listed have been measured by our local partner using satellite-based mapping software. Please note, GPS measuring devices can give differing results, especially in mountainous terrain and on winding paths.  Measurements stated throughout these trip notes are given to help you understand the types of terrain and distances you will encounter. Timings stated include lunch and photo stops and will vary depending on the pace of your group. Luggage: Your main luggage will be transported for you between accommodations but please note you will be expected to carry this to your room.
Group Description
We provide a qualified International Mountain Leader to escort the group on each walking day. Our walking leaders are true mountain professionals as well as being skilled group leaders. This not only helps to assure safety on the mountain but also that your leader has experience and knowledge in the wider mountain environment such as flora and fauna, geology, weather and local customs. The leaders are required to prevent anyone participating in an activity if they believe the person is not capable of completing it safely or in a reasonable time. Our support leaders will transfer your main luggage from hotel to hotel each time you move on. Please note that your baggage is not carried to your room.
Eating Drinking
Included in the trip are all breakfasts and 12 hotel/restaurant dinners. On days 7 and 14, dinner is not included and needs to be bought locally. We take our evening meals in the hotel in which we are staying or in a nearby restaurant. These meals are usually arranged as a menu for the whole group and, as they are based on special negotiations made by us, represent better value than eating independently. Please note that should the times of flights change to arrive earlier, or depart later, additional meals will not be included. Please also note that no refund will be given for meals not taken or taken other than where designated. Typical meals Continental breakfast: this will normally include coffee, tea, hot chocolate, French bread, croissants and conserves.Lunch: No lunches are provided but can easily be bought locally from either shops or the hotel/refuge. You may wish to bring (or buy locally) snack bars for an extra energy boost during the day.Evening meal: we endeavour to make dinner something to look forward to, and each day there will be a freshly prepared menu for the whole group, consisting of a soup, salad or similar, a main course of meat, fish or vegetarian served with a selection of vegetables and carbohydrates, and a dessert.Beer, wine, bottled water, other drinks, coffee or tea are not included in the price of evening meals taken in restaurants.Vegetarians: We happily cater for vegetarians but please inform us at the time of booking.Vegans: If you adhere to a vegan diet, you may find the variety of food offered to be limited, since veganism is relatively uncommon in this region.
Transportation
All transport mentioned in the itinerary and cable cars (except where these are marked as optional) are included. Transport and excursions on the three static days are not included. A private coach is normally used for the transfers between Geneva airport and Chamonix, other Exodus groups heading out to trek in the Alps may share this transfer. We will use a public bus for the few journeys to and from our hotels.

Weather Information
From late June to early October, fair weather is to be expected, but all mountain ranges create their own weather patterns and the Alps are no exception. It can and does rain and it can be surprisingly cold at times, especially on the high passes. Expected daytime temperatures are in the range of 15C-25C (59F-77F) in the valleys (although it can sometimes reach 30C/86F in July/August), 5C-15C (41F-59F) on the passes (though it will feel colder if wet and windy) and 5C-15C (41F-59F) in the valleys at night; possibly a little lower early and late in the season. There is always the possibility of lying snow, especially in the early season, and snowfall even in August and September when we may find new snow on the passes. Please note that on late-season treks (September) the days are shorter and we will need to make early starts to make the most of the available daylight hours.
Spending Money
The cost of lunches varies along the trek if you choose the packed lunches provided by the hotel/refugee which will cost around €5 - €15. For the free dinners allow €25-€30 each. You will also need money for drinks in cafes or huts during the day’s walk and drinks in restaurants where we take our evening meal. Typically a large café au lait or a soft drink would cost between €5-€6, and a glass of beer €6-€8. A bottle of wine can be bought for approximately €10-€16 in these restaurants. There are several extra excursions available in Chamonix, exact prices and details will be confirmed locally, but the following provides a guide to what is normally available: — Tandem paragliding flight: €135 from Brévent or Aiguille du Midi middle stations. — Return ride on Aiguille du Midi cable car from Chamonix or the Skyway to Helbronner from Courmayeur from €70 per person, or buy a mulitpass that covers all lifts for the whole valley for the same price. The cable car from Entrèves to Helbronner on the Italian side is slightly cheaper, you would need to take a bus from the campsite in Planpincieux to Courmayeur, this is approximately €2. — Mont Blanc Tramway, Saint Gervais – Nid d’Aigle €40 return — Montenvers cog railways – Mer de Glace €35 return — Courmayeur Spa from €54 for a 5-hour pass. Book here.
Tipping
Although optional, a tip for the walking and support crew at the end of the trip is greatly appreciated. The sum you choose to give is entirely personal, but as a reasonable starting point, we suggest a contribution from €40 per person per leader. Smaller groups may wish to give a little more per person. It is customary and appreciated to leave a small tip when settling your drinks bill at group meals in restaurants.

Accommodation

Hotels and 'auberges'
Throughout our mountain adventure, we stay in a collection of family-run hotels and auberges, all of which have spent years caring and catering for weary hikers. For the uninitiated, an auberge is equivalent to an inn: modest accommodation (often in a rural setting) that provides a warm, welcoming place to stop for travellers and hikers. Most of the properties in which we stay offer panoramic views over the Alps, while culturally reflecting the local community. Though most are relatively basic, all are clean, well run and set up with the needs of the trekker in mind, while acting as a vital source of income to the local people. Worth knowing Room sizes are - twin, double, triple or quad. Facilities vary between accommodations and sometimes between rooms within a property. On three nights, bathroom facilities may be on the landing rather than inside the room (dependent on availability and group size).Couples always have their own room but we cannot guarantee whether this will be a twin or double.Solo travellers maybe required to share twin, triple or quad rooms. We can’t accept bookings for single rooms due to the small size of the hotels used and the fact we are usually staying only one night in each property.Due to limited availability, occasionally we may need to change a hotel to one further down the valley, and will provide a bus or taxi transfer.

Itinerary

1
Day 1: Start Chamonix

Chamonix may well be among the best-known ski resorts in the world, but it’s also where we come together as a group for the first time. We’ll gather at the hotel in the evening for a welcome briefing, where we’ll chat about the trek, meet each other and get to know our expert tour leader. The base for the first two nights is along the Chamonix valley in Argentière. Accommodation: Hotel de la Couronne (or similar)

2
Day 2: Lac Blanc and the Grand Balcon Sud from Chamonix to les Frasserands

From our hotel we head to Les Praz and take the cable car to La Flégère. The trail today is named the Grand Balcon and is on the opposite side of the valley from Mont Blanc, affording excellent views of the whole massif lying to our south. Initially we contour and then climb to reach the high point of the day, Lac Blanc (7715ft/2,352m). The trail descends and then contours high above the valley before dropping steeply to the hamlet of Les Frasserands and Montroc. In the afternoon, there is a very short section of ladders/steep steps with handrails to descend. Accommodation: Hotel de la Couronne (or similar)

3
Day 3: Over Col de Balme into Switzerland; night at Col de la Forclaz

We travel back to Montroc at the top of the Chamonix valley where we begin our ascent to the Aiguillette de Posettes (7,200ft/2,201m), descend a little and then climb towards the Col de Balme from where we follow one of the paths across the border from France to Switzerland. Excellent views all morning of Aiguille d'Argentière and Aiguille du Tour and its glacier. After lunch we walk through to the small Swiss hamlet of Trient. Good views of the Trient Glacier. A sting in the tail today as we finish with a steep climb from Trient to our hotel at the Col de la Forclaz. Accommodation: Hotel Col de la Forclaz (or similar)

4
Day 4: Follow Bovine Route to Champex

We leave the Col de la Forclaz, where we can look directly down into the Rhône valley and the Swiss town of Martigny and follow a historic path used to take the cows to high pasture, the 'Bovine route' (6,720ft/2,049m). Our trail takes us through meadows and high-alpine pastures before we descend to the charming town of Champex set beside a picturesque alpine lake. Accommodation: Hotel Splendide (or similar)

5
Day 5: Head up the Val Ferret to La Fouly

Now on the east side of the main Mont Blanc Massif we walk south, descending through woods to the Val Ferret and on to Issert and other small, pretty, alpine farming villages. This is quite a good day for flowers, including orchids. We continue up the valley to the remote village La Fouly (5,250ft/1,600m). This is at the foot of Mont Dolent, whose summit is at the meeting point of France, Switzerland and Italy. We then take a public bus to our hotel in the village of Orsières. Accommodation: Hotel de l'Union (or similar)

6
Day 6: Follow river La Drance; climb to the highest point of the tour at Grand Col Ferret and into Italy. Overnight at La Palud

Still following the same valley and the river La Drance, we climb to the Grand Col Ferret (8,320ft/2,537m), the highest pass of the tour. Now in Italy, the valley is also called Val Ferret. The mountain views from the Col are stunning with the Grandes Jorasses dominating the scene. We walk down the valley to Arp Nouva then travel by bus to our hotel in La Palud near Courmayeur. Accommodation: Hotel Astoria (or similar)

7
Day 7: Rest day

The nearby ex-spa towns of Courmayeur and Entrèves have picturesque older sections, which are worth a visit, especially for the keen photographer. There is a cable car from Entrèves to Point Helbronner (11,350ft/3,461m) and on across the glacier to Aiguille du Midi (and in fact on down to Chamonix). This is a splendid (optional) excursion, which gives close-up views of all the big peaks. Alternatively you might wish to relax and recover in the spa baths at Pre Saint Didier a short bus ride from Courmayeur. It is recommended to book in advance for the spa to avoid disappointment, by clicking https://www.qcterme.com/en/pre-saint-didier/qc-terme-pre-saint-didier Accommodation: Hotel Astoria (or similar)

8
Day 8: Climb to Bonatti refuge and traverse high above the spectacular Ferret Valley around Mont de la Saxe to Courmayeur

We start with a short bus ride to pick up the TMB and from the road climb up to the Bonatti refuge (6,640ft/2,025m). Today we follow a beautiful contouring path around Mont de la Saxe to Courmayeur. The views of the south Mont Blanc massif are exceptional as are those of the towering peaks of the Grandes Jorasses and the glaciers which crowd the northern flank of the Val Ferret. In the afternoon we have a long, steep descent to Courmayeur from where we take a short bus ride into the spectacular Val Veny. Accommodation: Hotel Astoria (or similar)

9
Day 9: Cross the Col de la Seigne back to France, descend through la Ville des Glaciers to Les Chapieux

Today we are heading for the Val Veny and the start of our walk at La Visaille. We’ll reach this by bus to then start climbing gently along good paths beneath the massive glacier de Miage and pass Lac Combal before the gradient becomes steeper as we follow the old Roman road and head for today's pass: the Col de la Seigne (8,250ft/2,516m), which marks our re-entry into France. A fairly steep descent brings us through la Ville des Glaciers and finally after quite a long walking day to Les Chapieux, a remote hamlet inhabited only during the summer months. Accommodation: Auberge de la Nova (or similar)

10
Day 10: Ascend to Col de la Croix du Bonhomme, then contour across to the Col du Bonhomme

We have now reached the southwest corner of the circuit and turn north to climb once again. Today is a longer day; first we make a steep climb to the Col de la Croix du Bonhomme (8,130ft/2,478m) and then contour around to the Col du Bonhomme. We then descend (again on a Roman road) to Les Contamines. A short bus ride down the valley takes us to the pretty village of St Gervais, the perfect place for a day off. Accommodation: Hotel Val Joly (or similar)

11
Day 11: Free Day

A well-earned rest day. There are many options to fill your day including taking the cog railway to Le Nid d’aigle – the Eagles Nest – a popular start point to climb Mont Blanc, or browsing around the local market of Les Contamines. There are plenty of optional walks in the area or one can simply relax around the pleasant town of St Gervais or even treat yourself to a rejuvenating spa. Accommodation: Hotel Val Joly (or similar)

12
Day 12: Over Col de Tricot to the Chamonix Valley; overnight at Les Houches

Today is a challenging day with plenty of ups and downs. From St Gervais we have a 10-minute transfer to re-join our route before ascending to the Chalets de Miage. From here we take a trail that climbs steeply to the Col de Tricot (6,950ft/2,119m) before descending very close to the snout of the Glacier de Bionnassay. Good views of the north side of the Mont Blanc Massif. Eventually we make another ascent to reach the Col de Voza where we re-enter the Chamonix Valley and make our final descent to the village of Les Houches. Accommodation: Hotel St Antoine (or similar)

13
Day 13: Best views of Mont Blanc today; long ascent to the Brevent, descend to Chamonix

We cross to the north side of the Chamonix Valley and climb steeply through pine forest and then on open mountainsides to reach the high point of the day at Brevent (8,290ft/2,525m). This is a long walking day but will probably afford the best views of the French side of Mont Blanc and its neighbouring peaks that we shall have on the whole trek. We descend to Plan Praz and take the cable car to Chamonix for a well-deserved beer. Accommodation: Hotel la Verticale (or similar)

14
Day 14: Free day in Chamonix

Free day in and around Chamonix. There are several good walks in the Chamonix valley. Chamonix itself is also a great place to spend a day. The most popular excursions, weather depending, would be the spectacular ascent by cable car to the Aiguille du Midi or the Montenvers cog railway. Accommodation: Hotel la Verticale (or similar)

15
Day 15: End Chamonix

We enjoy our final breakfast as a group together, before going our separate ways. It’s a good chance to reflect on your adventures together, swap numbers, and, perhaps, start planning your next trek.

You HAVE to book this trip!!! You will not be disappointed with this trip: stunning vistas every step of the way, great sense of achievement, great people; including John, our exceptional Mountain Leader and lovely hot chocolate and tarte myrtille at the mountain refuges. Most Inspirational Moment Making it up Brevent on the the last climb to complete the two-week trek! Thoughts on Group Leader John is an exceptional Mountain Leader: very experienced and certainly knows his stuff. He had a knack of popping up beside you for support any time you were feeling anxious about the path or there was a precarious snowy/icy section or river crossing. Certainly felt very safe in his hands. He is very knowledgable about the mountains, flora and fauna and has stories about his own adventures around the world to keep you entertained with. Set the perfect 'Fairy Step' pace on the hikes to make it seem almost effortless, which made all the difference, especially in the 35 degree heat we had on some days. Very well organised and always made sure we had a good spread for lunch. Even good at opening the impossible gherkin jars! Advice for Potential Travellers Although this is a summer trek, there was plenty of snow still on the path for our trip in June, so be prepared! Suggestions Do not hesitate to book this trip - you will not regret it!

Most Inspirational Moment The sense of achievement of completing the last day’s climb was fantastic. John kept us together always as a group. Everyone felt supported Shen they needed it. Thoughts on Group Leader Excellent. John managed to create a cohesive group. He managed to keep a sense of fun while inspiring great trust in his knowledge and skills. Could not have been better. Advice for Potential Travellers Go for it! It is challenging but manageable for anyone who is fairly fit.

Tour de Mont Blanc hotel- ( tour du gormet) Best trip in a decade. Combination of stunning vistas, hiking, culture and food. Jenny our guide was superb. Better named the “Tour du gormet”. “5km to best gelato, 7 km to Prosecco, 8 km to tarte framboise”. Or that can be translated to first breakfast, second breakfast, first lunch, second lunch. Lots of hiking – don’t underestimate the impact of5 days of 2000 to 4000ft and 10 plus miles at the beginning of the trip. However there is then the best hot chocolate in Italy- more a chocolate fondue to look forward to. Bon appetit! Most Inspirational Moment Mont Blanc Thoughts on Group Leader Fantastic Advice for Potential Travellers Do not underestimate the hiking - even if used to doing long hikes

Brilliant guide, amazing scenery I’d hiked in the Chamonix area before, so I knew it would be stunning, but the variety of incredible scenery as we went round to the Swiss and Italian sides exceeded my expectations. The weather was extreme – 35 degrees for the first few days, then rain and finally sleet, snow and full-on winter conditions – don’t ignore the trip notes advice on clothing! Our guide, Mike Napier, was exceptional, managing the group with expertise and humour throughout. Most Inspirational Moment Completing the circuit, which I'd first started (but failed to finish) 40 years ago. Thoughts on Group Leader Mike was probably the best leader I've had on any trek. Always good company with plenty of jokes, he took full control when it got tricky in the snow and ice and got us all down safely. Advice for Potential Travellers Just do it!

Stunning scenery and a great sense of achievement at the end A huge thank you to our guide Mike who gave us excellent advice each morning and managed to keep us all motivated and together each day The weather is unpredictable with extreme heat for the first week and one day of rain, snow and ice so be prepared! The food was good, the hotels were clean although some were basic due to the remote locations. The staff were great. Some days were very tough but the views were worth it and Mike rewarded us with Jaffa Cakes and M&M’s. Most Inspirational Moment Finishing the climb to Le Brevent on our last day Thoughts on Group Leader I was inspired by Mike’s attitude to the mountain, he was determined that we would leave as little trace as possible of our visit. No toilet paper left behind???? He has great people skills and managed to keep everyone motivated Advice for Potential Travellers Be prepared for all types of weather even in August it can snow. Read the trip notes A light robe for the days when not en suite and a small poly bag to take away your toilet roll????? Suggestions Nope

TMB Overall excellent trek with a compatible group and an amazing guide, Augustine. Most Inspirational Moment Some of us climbed the peak called Tete de Ferret after a hard hike to the Col. Highest point we reached on the TMB and could see where we came from and where we were going. Thoughts on Group Leader Augustine was one of the highlights of the trip. Knowledgeable, optimistic, funny and a great leader. He knew how to motivate us and made good decisions about routes and how everyone was feeling. It was a pleasure spending two weeks with him. Advice for Potential Travellers Train hard. Suggestions A second shout out to Augustine, the perfect guide for our group.

Outstanding hiking trip! If you’re looking for a fabulous hiking trip around Mont Blanc with a guide, hotel accommodations, nearly all meals included, and luggage transport, Exodus Travels is an excellent choice. Most Inspirational Moment Taking in the vast natural beauty of glaciers, mountain peaks, waterfalls ... and making it to the end of each day's hike, happily! Thoughts on Group Leader Our guide Mike was superb - knowledgeable, confident and encouraging, with a good sense of humor, and most importantly: he exuded an added measure of leadership and competence the day we had especially challenging conditions of snow, sleet, hail, white-out, and slippery rocks. Advice for Potential Travellers Training pays off! The training guide on the Exodus Travels website is helpful. The weather is unpredictable - we had several very hot days, rain and then a day of snow, sleet and hail, so pack for all possibilities.

Trip of a Lifetime Sometimes you do a trip confident that it will give you great memories for many years to come, even a feeling of awe. For us TMB comes into this category. Let’s be clear from the onset – this a physically challenging trip – over 10 walking days we covered c 100 miles ascending c 32K feet (higher than Everest) and descending c28K feet. Din’t expect glitz – the trip takes you off the beaten track. Some properties are basic (no en-suite WMC and/or shower). Others. In particular the Hotel Richemonde in Chamonix where we started and ended the trip, had great character. Staff took great effort to make us welcome. Lunch is basic, but has to be sourced in locations where choice is limited. For us such details are relatively inconsequential given the stunning scenery we saw (we were blessed with great weather each day bar one). So all in all a genuine trip of a lifetime giving us memories to treasure. Most Inspirational Moment The scenery we saw each day was inspirational. Best one off experience was seeing a huge male ibex 10 feet away. Thoughts on Group Leader Overall Maria was a great leader. His knowledge was extensive. He went to great effort to source food for lunches when this was challenging due to product availability. He managed to get us up and down majestic mountain passes each day in time to have a hot shower and cold beer before a hearty dinner. This was no mean achievement given that on some days we had to catch local buses that operated at irregular intervals. Most importantly, given that climbing mountains anywhere carries a degree of risk, we always felt in very safe hands. A short briefing each night about the day ahead would have been useful. Advice for Potential Travellers Read the trip notes carefully in advance to understand what the trip entails. Suggestions If the idea of doing such an iconic trip appeals do not hesitate to do it - if you wait too long your body might not be to it!

Why there are so few recent reviews? That was a question I asked the Canada based ‘Customer Experience Specialist’ in November 2021 when I first contacted Exodus on behalf of a group of friends. The reply I received was that it was because of the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on travel. After my trip last summer, I believe that there are other reasons. During our hike we learnt that because of changes in regulations due to Brexit, Exodus had lost most of its established International Mountain Leaders and was relying on services provided by a third-party company. Based on my experience, I question the vetting process of this company for its guides. On day #5, as we were approaching La Fouly, a couple of group members wanted to detour to a waterfall that was off the TMB trail. The rest did not, but the group leader forced all to walk across a boulder field (read ‘ankle twist risk’) to access the trail to the waterfall. We returned to the TMB trail on a different path that was a safe hiking trail. Would a sensible leader put the safety of his group at risk by forcing them to traverse unsafe terrain? On the last hiking day, the leader stated that there was snow & ice on the trail (our hike was in August) from Le Brevent to Plan Praz, presumably to dissuade group members from hiking that last stretch and instead take the cable car. All but 2 elected to continue the hike. The only snow & ice was on the distant peaks! If you live in the United States, be aware that the company uses a reservation agent in Canada and a U.S. Operations Team. Communication between these two, and between the Operations Team and the local third-party operator was clearly deficient. At the time of making the reservation, because of the increased risk for COVID-19 infection in a confined setting, I sought assurance that we that we would not be staying in dormitory accommodation. In July, I asked for confirmation after finding that the accommodations in two locations had both rooms and dormitories. At one of these locations our group had to stay at two different hotels. The group leader told us that the Operations Team had not notified the local operator of our request and dormitory accommodation had been booked. After I wrote in July, they had to rebook and the Auberge did not have enough rooms for the entire group, hence the split accommodation. We were to meet with travelers arriving from the U.K. at Geneva airport for onward transportation to Chamonix. The Operations Team did not bother to notify us that the travelers from the U.K were arriving on a later flight. We spent an anxious 2+ hours in the airport not seeing anyone with an Exodus Travels sign and not being able to reach the local third-party company at the telephone number provided by the Operations Team. Writing to the company has only yielded defensive responses. Most Inspirational Moment Enjoying Mother Nature's beauty. Thoughts on Group Leader Lack of concern for safety of group members, Dishonest, Manipulative Advice for Potential Travellers I would not recommend this company to potential travelers. Tour du Mont Blanc Hotel Trek Reply from Exodus We would like to thank Murali for his review, although we are incredibly sorry that he was disappointed with several aspects of his time in the Alps, as this is not the type of feedback we expect to receive. We have sourced tour leaders for this trip from the same local operator for almost twenty years and have full confidence in their ability to select highly qualified mountain guides who meet ours and our customers’ expectations. The consistently high scores they receive suggests that this process works well, so we regret that this does not chime with Murali’s experience. We can confirm that his group lodged at the standard chalet used on this tour and did not spend any nights in dormitories, so we were equally surprised to receive these comments. Our customer services team have been in direct communication with Murali since he returned home and we remain satisfied that his trip was delivered in line with our expectations; we, nevertheless, remain apologetic for his disappointing experience.

Spectacular Trek We had an amazing trek with spectacular scenery. Each day was carefully planned and we had a full briefing of what was to come. We were helped by wall to wall sunshine every walking day which meant we could make the most of the views. Our group of eight all got on well and walked at a similar pace which meant we were always together as a group. Lunches were made from supplies bought by the guide and were varied and plentiful. The hotels were more than acceptable with a few excellent. Most Inspirational Moment Reaching the top of each steep climb and being rewarded with phenomenal views. Thoughts on Group Leader Our leader Jef, was absolutely the best. So experienced and knowledgeable about the area, plant and wildlife and keen to impart that knowledge. His great sense of humour was appreciated especially when the going got tough. Probably one of the best guides I have had. Advice for Potential Travellers Make sure you arrive fit for the trek so that you enjoy it right from the beginning.

Wonderful Hiking BUT Let me just start this review by saying that I have been on over 25 guided trips in the last 22 years so I have experience with tour groups. It never crossed my mind when booking this trip that I would have a poor guide. I have been fortunate that my experiences have always been exceptional. The good: the hiking was fabulous, different challenges, variety of scenery each day. By luck we had a fantastic group of 12 from all over the world. The bad: our guide, luggage transfer and lunches. The guide started off the trip by being very unwelcoming on Day 1. He then proceeded to share way too much about his personal life and how he was so tired each day due to lack of sleep. The first several days of the trip, he didn’t even do any type of route review or what we were to expect for that day’s hike. Thankfully we were a cohesive group (mostly because 9 out of 12 of us came down with a gastric bug on Day 3 of the trip) so we always waited up for the slowest person of the group. Due to us only having one uninterested guide, we had to lookout for that person. One day the group got about a quarter mile down the trail only to find the guide missing. When someone went back to look for him, he was found at the trailhead “chatting up” a woman that was waiting for the bus. The list of complaints can go on. A few days into the trip, three people didn’t get their luggage for 24 hours. The guide suggested that they “borrow” clothes from others on the trip. Luckily, a staff member at the hotel took them into town so they could purchase clothes for that night and the next day (the next day was a free day and there were plans to go to the spa). Nothing worse than coming off the trail and not being able to change into clean clothes. We made our lunches each morning with supplies that the guide set out. Typically the last two people to make theirs ended up with just bread and cheese since everything else had run out. There just wasn’t enough supplies purchased. Also, the meat and cheese sandwiches got a bit boring after a week. Fortunately, after some complaints he did add fruit and some vegetable toppings. Eventually we also got some chocolate at the end. Based on the amount of money that was spent on this trip, I expected much more from the guide. I emailed the company about 5 days into the trip to express my dissatisfaction with the services provided. I am sure that there will be more letters from others that I traveled with. I would suggest looking for another tour group to do this trek with. I certainly encountered many more enthusiastic guides on the trail from different companies. Most Inspirational Moment The scenery and views also making new friends Advice for Potential Travellers I would look to book with another tour company. Tour du Mont Blanc Hotel Trek Reply from Exodus We would like to thank Lisa for taking the time to leave a review, but are incredibly sorry to hear that she was disappointed with the tour leader assigned to her departure. We have a fantastic team of leaders for Exodus groups travelling to Mont Blanc, and can see that from the feedback we have received in 2023 that our customers travelling this year have rated them an average of 4.80 out of 5 on the Holiday Evaluation Forms we send to each client after a trip. We find this extremely encouraging, and it makes us confident that travellers choosing Exodus can expect to receive an excellent standard of tour leader who can elevate their time in this beautiful region. However, we would like to apologise to Lisa that this was not her experience, and we recognise that the leader on her particular departure, who is usually consistently attentive, personable, and is an experience mountain guide, did not perform anywhere near our high standards on this occasion. We were in touch with Lisa and her fellow group members about this at the time and, having taken the matter extremely seriously, resolved this to their satisfaction following the trip. We also spoke at length to the tour leader in question, and our local manager has given him comprehensive advice and further training which we feel, in tandem with his previous high level of performances, will mean he is fully ready to lead future departures in line with our and our clients’ expectations. We are glad that Lisa enjoyed the company of her Exodus group and the wonderful hikes and scenery in Mont Blanc, and sincerely hope we are able to welcome her back on another trip with us in the future which more reflects the positive experience our customers overwhelmingly have. This is an absolute ‘must do’ trip! This is easily one of the best trips I’ve ever done – I had an absolute blast and highly recommend it! The TMB itself is just incredible, words can’t describe how beautiful it is. Every day was different and the hiking was just so much fun. Just make sure you have a good level of fitness or you won’t enjoy it as much as you should! I really enjoyed the group dynamic and was happy with the accommodation – we had two nights in what I’d class as hostel style accommodation (private rooms with shared bathrooms but sink in room which was good!) and the remainder in 2/3* hotels. Rooms were spotlessly clean, beds were comfy and hot showers were plentiful which is exactly what you need after a day on the trail! ?? Food was so good throughout – Lunch has never tasted better! Most Inspirational Moment I loved it all. Every single minute :) Thoughts on Group Leader I originally thought about doing this trip self guided but I couldn’t be happier that I didn’t! Our guide, Egle, made this trip for me! She was fantastic, She looked after absolutely everything so all I needed to do was enjoy myself as we wandered around the TMB :) !! Her love for the Alps is infectious and she’s just awesome to be around!

Tour du Mount Blanc Hotel - terrific two week Alpine trek through three countries This trip proved to be a brilliant way to hike five valleys, three countries, and enjoy stunning Alpine scenery en route. Accommodation is generally good, and the food hearty & plentiful but it is all about terrific walking territory in the shadow of the Mt. Blanc massif. Lots of “Wow” moments. Do not underestimate the hiking fitness required with each walking day being 10-12 miles (16-19 km) with ascents of 1,000 m – 1,600 m (3,000' – 5,000') and corresponding descents. However the pace set by our guide Kim was sensible throughout so we had time to chat as we walked, take photos and enjoy the wonderful views. Trekking time was generally 6-8 hours each day albeit actual walking time was consistently around two-thirds of this. The other third being photo stops, coffee/ice cream stops (lots), two lunch stops (eating little and often was good advice), etc. Rest days were well placed in the timetable and meant that we all completed the 110 mile (180 km) circuit in good shape. Most Inspirational Moment In terms of hiking, probably ascending the 2,500 m cols which took us across the frontiers into each of Switzerland, Italy & France, plus the steep (600 m) ascent of the Col du Trichot on walking day 9, and the sumptuous views of Mt Blanc as we ascended 1,600m to Brevet on the final morning - celebrated with champagne at the top. Aside from the hiking were two "Must Do"s. One was on the first rest day - taking the Skyway Monte Bianco cable car from Cormayeaur up to Punta Herbronner and then the frankly fantastic 5km panorama trip over to the Aiguille du Midi. Absolutely superb views over the glacier and of Mt Blanc itself. Kim suggested we get there for 06:30 when it opened which proved great advice as we had the viewing platform to ourselves & avoided the later crowds and queues. The other was the tramway from St Gervais up to Nid D'Aigle. Impressive engineering, great views and a chance to hike to the Bionnassay glacier. Do both. Take layers. Thoughts on Group Leader Kim was an experienced IML (International Mountain Leader) and clearly knew the area like the back of her hand - she didn't consult a map once across the whole trip. Her briefings each evening were comprehensive - almost too much so. She was up early each morning to set out food so we could select content of our lunches before we went into breakfast, and her timetabling meant we had plenty of time at every point despite the scale of the hiking each day. She set a steady sensible pace on the ascents and was a demon on the descents - we had fun trying to keep up with her, despite her being older than all the trip participants. Advice for Potential Travellers The trip notes liken the walking to ascending Ben Nevis or Scarfell Pike. This is not an exaggeration as we coincidentally did both three weeks before the trip. You need to be hiking fit to cope with repeated 10+ mile / 1,000+m hikes. Take layers - the weather can change quickly. Carrying gloves, woolly hat, down jacket, rain top, & over-trousers seemed OTT until the sudden thunderstorm on the Col du Bonhomme. Good boots, walking poles plenty of sun screen are also recommended. Finally, those with water bladders proved more adept with keeping hydrated than those us with water bottles. I picked one up in Decathlon (£10) on our return to Chamonix. Suggestions We would certainly recommend this trip to anyone who enjoys hiking. The route well chosen, food plentiful, accommodation sound and guide knowledgeable. The scenery is simply glorious.

Fabulous trip My husband and and I really loved this walk. The scenery every day was simply spectacular. The accomodation was very comfortable and food provided for us was top class. We had quite a small group of 7 of various nationalities and we all muddled along together very well. I found our trek leader to be very helpful with advice on what to do on days off etc. He was always encouraging along the way and informed us of points of interest, landmarks etc. I did find the walk to be quite challenging and anybody interested in doing this trek needs to have a fairly high level of fitness. I would recommend Exodus travel to my friends, expecially the Tour du Mont Blanc trek. Most Inspirational Moment Reaching the top of Brevant on the last day of the walk. It had been a long, long walk up. I felt really proud that I had been able to complete the walk. Thoughts on Group Leader Peter Smith was a fantastic tour leader. He was “keep calm and carry on” type of character. He was encouraging and provided me with helpful hints along the way regarding the use of poles, pace and was particularly helpful to me when we had to some, what I think was scary edge walking to do. This was not my strength but I managed well with his help. Advice for Potential Travellers This trek requires a fairly high level of fitness. Do a lot of uphill training in readiness and be assured that it won’t be enough. Be determined to finish.

Summer in the mountains surrounding Mont Blanc A thoroughly enjoyable trek through France, Switzerland and Italy. It’s a lovely feeling to walk everywhere (with the occasional use of local buses). The hotels and auberges were comfortable and we were well fed throughout the trip. There was a large choice of food and fruits for packed lunches which we made ourselves, choosing as much as we wanted. The walking was fabulous, I loved seeing the different scenery and villages. Most Inspirational Moment I particularly enjoyed walking over the cols to the next valleys. Always a wow moment. Thoughts on Group Leader Nick was a great guide, and knew a lot about the mountains and the things living in them. I don't think anyone was ever anxious about what the day might bring as trickier parts of the walk were dealt with as we arrived at them and not over thought of before. He had a calm, relaxed manner which made all the days enjoyable. Advice for Potential Travellers Always carry wet weather gear. We only had just over an hour of rain on one occasion whilst walking but I was grateful for the waterproofs I'd carried for nearly a fortnight. Do get fit but don't over worry. We live in a very flat area so only really walk up hills and mountains whilst on holiday and we had no problem. Carry plenty of water. Be prepared to wait for slower members of the group... never a problem when you're an such beautiful surroundings!

Just Wow, reason why it's a Top 5 trek This trek (early July ’18) was phenomenal. this is my first real trekking holiday and I have to tell you, I am converted now. the scenery all along the way is spectacular, and different each day! Going through 3 countries, more than 170 kms, and going from towns and villages to a handful of coffee drinkers at a refuge at 2000+ masl, really added variety to this trip. The first 2 days might be challenging ones for most, but then your body and mind sync, and then your only focus is when to stop taking pictures and not to get your breath back. Your body will love it, you will be at peace and most importantly, super fit after it’s all set and done. Work hard during the day, have a nice sleep on a comfy bed each night – what else do you want? Most Inspirational Moment Realizing that my group of 3 was the best paced group my guide has ever had, and I kept up with them no problem. doing a Col in 2 hours where it should have taken 3, and still feel like a champ after all. Bring it on Annapurnas, you're next Thoughts on Group Leader Pete Smith, a legend. he was superb, well attentive and mindful of everyone. it was his first trek of the season and I am happy we got him. superb leader! Advice for Potential Travellers Yes, follow the fitness plan and break your boots in. Once you are there, let the mind take over and the body follow suit. It's not a race, it's a walk along one of the most beautiful treks out there. Bring camelback of 1.5-2L and a waterbottle (1L), you will need it Suggestions Love this tour Exodus, great educational! A Must Do for every keen hiker This was an excellent trip. The views are stunning and we were fortunate enough to have 9 dry and sunny days. Loved hiking from France to Switzerland to Italy and back to France. Being able to have a drink and cake at some of the refuges was a real bonus. There were quite a lot of snowfields to cross but we were very fortunate in that we were able to trek the whole route. Two weeks before and this was not possible. Most Inspirational Moment Crossing the border from Switzerland into Italy. The views from the Col Ferret were outstanding. Having lunch on the top, enjoying the sunshine and eating toblerone - bliss. Thoughts on Group Leader Our group leader was Frank. He was hugely experienced, having done this some 60 times before. Frank set the pace and it was just right. He never went off at a ridiculous pace and I never felt that my safety was compromised at all. He was really helpful when I struggled to cross one pass with my short legs and had plenty of time to make a track through the snowfields when we had to descend through them. Advice for Potential Travellers I was a little concerned with undertaking this trip as I am in my late 50's and the maximum number of days hiking I have done before was 4. We did do quite a bit of training and I would recommend that anyone doing this does try to find some hills before. Having said that, we did not struggle at all. Frank's pace was great. The legs did ache for the first couple of days but after that they were fine. On the last day we did 1670m of ascent and I could have gone on and on! The downhills are definitely harder than the ascents. So pleased we chose the guided tour as it would have been very challenging trying to find some of the routes especially when you're in a storm with limited visibility and being hit with large hail stones. Suggestions Do it! Anyone with good fitness will be fine. This is one of the tot 10 walks to do in the World and I would thoroughly recommonend doing it was Exodus.

Larry Meyers  -  Traveled, August 2017

An Amazing Trip From Start To Finish I knew from the moment I arrived in Chamonix and saw the mountains and its glaciers that I had found the right adventure. Here was a chance to do one of the most acclaimed walks and the trip lived up to its billing. One can read about the walk and its vistas but nothing really prepares you for actually being part of it. I enjoyed the challenge of the walk, my fellow travelers and the quality of the lodging (OK, maybe not walking down the hall to the w/c in the middle of the night at our auberge stays–but a heck of a lot better than tenting). I enjoyed the evening meals and the variety of the cuisine. Overall the food was good and the huts offered a nice supplement to our sandwich lunch fare. The huts were a new experience and each one was unique from the food offered, to the hot chocolate to the w/c’s. Most Inspirational Moment Seeing the clouds part to reveal a new mountain with its glaciers. Experiencing a cloudless day in Chamonix at the end of the trip. Cheering on over 2000 participants in the UTMB (Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc) as they pass you on the trail after having run through the night only to later realize that the leaders completed in hours which took us days. To be part of a group lead by Jeff. Thoughts on Group Leader I have done dozens of trips that required a guide. I can only recall a few of their names. In my mind there will always be an association between the Tour du Mont Blanc and our guide Jeff. To quote a walker who did the trip with Jeff earlier this summer "..he was fantastic..professional, intelligent, engaging, fun, friendly, safety conscious and very caring towards his clients." It is not easy leading a group of 14 hikers with various skill levels and insuring they stay together. Advice for Potential Travellers First and foremost this is a group hike. You are part of a team whose goal is for all to complete the Tour and to enjoy their experience on the trail. Do not underestimate the need to do a good amount of walking before the trip. Focus on distance yes, an of course climbing. Include going down steep hills and plenty of steps. Insure your feet are in good shape. Figure out the right weight and sock combination before the trip. The trail conditions vary and it is important to have plenty of tread on your hiking boots. Things I found helpful: my own bar of soap; spare bootlaces; a travel clothesline for in room washing; lotions for the feet after the day's walk; good pair of sandals as your hiking boots are not allowed in the auberges and in some hotels and finally--earplugs. (Laundromats could be found near the Hotel Richemond in Chamonix and the Hotel Val Joly in St Gervais {Day 10 & 11}).
