Experience Overview

Ranked among the best hikes in the world, the Tour du Mont Blanc takes in three diverse countries – France, Switzerland and Italy – and offers the greatest mountain scenery in Europe. Experience has taught us that 15 days is the perfect duration to fully appreciate this memorable circuit around Mont Blanc – 10 days of trekking complemented by three rest days. Overall the trekking will feel tough with long walking days but the three rest days are incorporated to give you time to rest the legs whilst enjoying three fascinating alpine towns. Courmayeur is an old worldly Italian gem with windy pedestrian streets lined with chic shops and delightful cafes, bars and restaurants. A short, free, bus ride away is the luxurious QC Therm Spa and wellness centre, a lovely treat. Les Contamines and St Gervais are charming alpine towns with interesting local markets, electric bike hire and gondoliers taking you up to stunning view points. The last free day is in Chamonix, the vibrant heart of the Mont Blanc massif, with a wide choice of activities to try, including paragliding and taking the Aiguille du Midi cable car up to 12,605ft (3,842m) for spectacular, close-up views of Mont Blanc. Led by an experienced International Mountain Leader, you will climb over six mountain passes, cross beneath colossal glaciers, meander through beautiful alpine meadows, and discover picture-postcard villages. We sleep in campsites throughout the trek, often with outstanding views that aren’t possible from a hotel room. Tents are modern and spacious – designed for three people but only allocated to two – and an unlimited number of single tents is available. For those seeking a little more comfort, mattresses and sleeping bags are also available to hire. While getting back to nature is a rewarding, energising experience, we recognise that having a comfortable stay along the way can make a camping trek even more special. Delicious three-course meals are on the menu when in camp, and five restaurant meals are also included during the trek. Your baggage is transported between each location by our dedicated camp support leader and van, and tents are put up by our camp crew before you arrive at each campsite, leaving you free to enjoy the inspiring scenery found only on this classic trek.

Trip For You
This trip is graded Activity Level 4 (Moderate & Challenging) – it involves 10 days of walking; two days at a Moderate level and eight days at a Challenging level. For more information on our trip gradings, visit the Activity Level Guidelines page. If you have any queries about the difficulty of the trip, please contact us. Walking profile: Most days are long, quite often involving an ascent of 900m-1,200m (or 3,000ft-4,000ft), equivalent to three to four hours walking uphill, followed by a similar descent. On Day 2, there are two metal ladders to descend from Lac Blanc. These are secured against the rock, consist of approximately 12 steps and are not difficult to climb down. The route throughout is non-technical; however, we will be walking mountain paths and this trip is not advised for severe vertigo sufferers. Please be aware that on Days 6 and 8, we take a short bus transfer to avoid trekking on busy roads. Terrain: Although the paths are well maintained, there are sections that are rough underfoot with sometimes loose rocks, so you need to be confident in your footing and balance. Route: Most people trek the Tour du Mont Blanc anticlockwise. From years of experience, we have discovered that trekking the route clockwise allows for quieter trails and avoids a tough ascent on the first couple of days. The views and walks are just as beautiful in this direction. Preparation: As this is a group adventure, you need to be confident your fitness will allow you to enjoyably walk at a consistent and steady pace that matches the group average, allowing the group to finish the day at a reasonable time. You will also enjoy the trek a great deal more if your fitness allows you to walk the route in relative ease. A Challenging-graded day would be equivalent to walking between three and five hours uphill and a similar time downhill, so up to nine hours in total depending on the pace (including breaks). Due to the lower altitude, climate and overall comfort of this trek, it is graded Activity Level 4 (Moderate & Challenging). The Activity Level reflects the overall endurance required for this trip, not just the ease of any particular walk. Other treks with a higher Activity Level, requiring a higher overall endurance due to their remoteness, lack of facilities or average weather etc, may have shorter, easier walks. Please read the daily itineraries below when making comparisons to other walks/trips you may have done before. Opting out: If you are unable to walk during the itinerary and want to opt out of a day, please note this can sometimes be a little tricky, depending on your position on the circuit. To reach the next point, you will need to take a public bus (which run at limited times) or taxi (which can be expensive in more remote locations). Our support vehicle is not suitable for carrying passengers so please be aware of this when deciding to book this trip. If you miss a part of the itinerary, any extra transport, hotel and food cost will be at your expense. GPS measurements: All ascents, descents and walking distances listed below are approximate. We have decided the most accurate method is to map the routes carefully using Google Earth. That said, it is impossible to obtain a completely true figure of the distances walked. Due to the inherent inaccuracies of defining an exact waypoint with a GPS and the cumulative overall inaccuracy this causes, you may find that our distances and GPS distances you obtain on trek with your personal GPS/phone may differ by quite a margin. Timings stated include lunch and photo stops and will vary depending on the pace of your group.
Group Description
We provide a qualified International Mountain Leader to escort the group on each walking day. Our walking leaders are true mountain professionals. As well as being skilled group leaders, they are there to help assure safety on the mountain. They also impart their knowledge of the wider mountain environment such as flora and fauna, geology, weather and local customs. The leaders are required to prevent anyone participating in an activity if they believe the person is not capable of completing it safely or in a reasonable time. Our support leaders are also vital members of the team and ensure the camp is set up and ready when you walk off the hill (wherever practically possible) and hot, tasty and nutritious food is served.
Eating Drinking
We provide 14 breakfasts, 10 picnic lunches, eight home-cooked three-course group meals in camp and four group meals in local restaurants. Due to the small size and remoteness of several of these restaurants, and for speed when serving a large group, these will be set menus. Breakfast: Usually consist of coffee, tea, cereal, yoghurt, fresh fruit, bread and conserves. Lunch: Picnic-style lunches will normally include bread, cold meat, cheese, sometimes boiled eggs or tinned fish, fresh salad and fresh fruit. You may wish to bring (or purchase locally) snack bars for an extra energy boost during the day. Evening meal: Whether in camp or in a nearby restaurant, we endeavour to make dinner something to look forward to. Each day there will be a freshly prepared menu for the whole group, consisting of a soup, salad or similar; a main course of meat, fish or vegetarian served with a selection of vegetables and carbohydrates; and a dessert. Beer, wine, bottled water, coffee, tea or other drinks are not included in the price of evening meals taken in restaurants. Coffee and tea are included with the evening meal when we eat in camp and beer and wine are also available for purchase at a modest cost. Vegetarians: We happily cater for vegetarians – please inform us at the time of booking. Vegans: If you adhere to a vegan diet, you may find the variety of food offered to be limited, since veganism is relatively uncommon in this region. The feedback we receive for the food we serve is great but please be aware that facilities are limited and practicality forces us to put our efforts into making one excellent group meal with a vegetarian option. Of course, any allergies will be respected.
Transportation
All transport mentioned in the itinerary and cable cars (except where these are marked as optional) are included. Transport and excursions on the three rest/free days are not included. For the transfers to and from Geneva airport we normally use a private coach. Other Exodus groups heading out to trek in the Alps may share this transfer.

Weather Information
From late June to early October, expect fair weather. However, all mountain ranges create their own weather patterns and the Alps are no exception. It does rain and can be surprisingly cold at times, especially on the high passes. Daytime temperatures are in the range of 15C-25C (59F-77F) in the valleys, although it can sometimes reach 30C (86F) in July and August; 5C-15C (41F-59F) on the passes, though it will feel colder if wet and windy; and 5C to 15C (41F-59F) in the valleys at night, possibly a little lower early and late in the season. There is always the possibility of lying snow, especially in the early season, and snowfall even in August and September, when we may find new snow on the passes. Please note, the days are shorter on September treks, so we start early to make the most of the available daylight.
Spending Money
The cost of the extra lunches varies depending on whether you want to picnic or eat in a restaurant, and an average of €17 per lunch should suffice. For the dinner not included, allow €25. You will also need money for drinks in cafes or huts during the walks and drinks in restaurants where we take our evening meal. Typically, a large café au lait or a soft drink costs between €5-€6, and a glass of beer €6-€8. A bottle of wine can be bought for approximately €10-€20 in these restaurants. There are several extra excursions in Chamonix, exact prices and details will be confirmed locally, but the following provides a guide to what is normally available: — Tandem paragliding flight: €135 from Brevent or Aiguille du Midi middle stations — Return ride on Aiguille du Midi cable car: €70 per person, or buy a mulitpass covering all lifts for the whole valley for the same price. The cable car from Entrèves to Helbronner on the Italian side is slightly cheaper, you would need to take a bus from the campsite in Planpincieux to Courmayeur, this is approximately €2 — Mont Blanc Tramway, Saint Gervais – Nid d’Aigle €40 round trip — Montenvers cog railways – Mer de Glace €35 round trip — Courmayeur Spa from €54 for a five-hour pass qcterme.com/en/pre-saint-didier/qc-terme-pre-saint-didier All prices are subject to change.
Tipping
Although optional, a tip for the walking and support crew at the end of the trip is greatly appreciated. The sum you choose to give is entirely personal, but as a reasonable starting point, we suggest a contribution of €40 per person per leader. Smaller groups may wish to give a little more per person. It is customary and appreciated to leave a small tip when settling your drinks bill at group meals in restaurants.

Accommodation

Comfortable camping
The campsites are in stunning settings and sharing an after-trek drink with newly made friends as the sun sets over a glaciated mountain is the perfect way to enjoy the great outdoors. Campsites: The chosen campsites are comfortable and modern. On 12 nights, hot showers are available and there are electricity points to recharge batteries. Many campsites have a bar and wifi, plus a lounge or sitting area. We provide a large communal tent (if we do not use the communal area in the campsite), where we eat at tables with benches and have an unlimited tea and coffee station, plus a camp bar. Two remote campsites are in stunning locations but are a little more basic than others and do not have showers. We eat in restaurants on these nights. Camp life: Accompanying you throughout the trek is a dedicated camp support leader who takes care of the logistics and catering. Your tent is put up for you each night. In the morning, you will be asked to take your tent down (this should take no more than three to four minutes), put your bag in the back of the van and wash your breakfast dish. On four nights out of 14, you will be asked to join a washing up team and help with the dishes that evening – a 20-minute job. Otherwise, you are free to relax and your time is your own. Tents and equipment: All our equipment is bought with both comfort and practicality in mind and we hope represents a higher quality than most individuals would buy for themselves. You spend 14 nights camping in roomy waterproof tents designed to sleep three people, but with a maximum of two people per tent. We use modern dome tents incorporating a 6.9ft x 6.9ft (2.1m x 2.1m) inner tent with sewn-in ground sheet and a supplementary 7.5ft x 2.3ft (2.3m x 0.7m) covered porch that is an ideal place to leave your walking boots and poles. Single tents are available for a small additional cost, as are camping mats and sleeping bags with liner and pillow. Our full-length camping mats are filled with air and foam, which is comfortable to sleep on and provides excellent insulation from the ground. Our sleeping bags have a synthetic filling, as opposed to feathers, with a three-quarter-length zip and provide plenty of warmth. Worth knowing Thermal mattress hire: Approximately £36 – please request in advance with your sales representative.Sleeping bag hire (three- or four-season), pillow and liner: Approximately £73 – please request in advance with your sales representative.

Itinerary

1
Day 1: Start at Les Bossons, near Chamonix

Our start point is the campsite in Les Bossons, which has wonderful views of Mont Blanc and the dramatic, crevassed Glacier des Bossons, especially at sunset. In the evening, there is an introductory briefing by the trek crew. Campsite: Camping Les Marmottes, Les Bossons

2
Day 2: Follow the Grand Balcon Sud from Chamonix to Les Frasserands

From Les Bossons (3,320ft/1,012m), we have a short bus journey to Chamonix from where we walk to Les Praz and take the cable car to La Flégère (6,100ft/1,860m). The trail today is named the Grand Balcon and is on the opposite side of the valley from Mont Blanc, affording excellent views of the whole massif lying to our south. Initially, we contour and then climb to reach the high point of the day, Lac Blanc (7,715ft/2,352m). The trail descends and then contours high above the valley before dropping steeply to the hamlet of Les Frasserands (4,500ft/1,371m), from where we take a scenic valley train back to our campsite. In the afternoon, there is a very short section of ladders/steep steps with handrails to descend. Campsite: Camping Les Marmottes, Les Bossons

3
Day 3: Cross over Col de Balme to Switzerland and camp at Trient

After a scenic train ride up the valley to Les Frasserands, we begin by climbing steeply to the Aiguillette de Posettes (7,200ft/2,201m), descend a little and then ascend towards the Col de Balme (7,190ft/2,191m) where we follow one of the paths across the border from France to Switzerland. Enjoy excellent views all morning of Aiguille d'Argentière and Aiguille du Tour and its glacier. After lunch, we descend to the small hamlet of Trient (4,250ft/1,296m), where we will have lovely views of the Trient Glacier. Campsite: Camping near Trient

4
Day 4: Cross Col de la Forclaz to Champex

We climb first to the Col de Forclaz (5,010ft/1,527m) and then onwards to look directly into the Rhône Valley and the small Swiss town of Martigny. We follow a historic path used to take the cows to summer grazing, the ‘Bovine route’ (6,720ft/2,049m), which takes us through meadows and high alpine pastures before descending to Champex (4,880ft/1,486m), a town beside a picturesque alpine lake. Campsite: Camping Les Rocailles, Champex Lac

5
Day 5: Head up Val Ferret to La Fouly

Now on the east side of the main Mont Blanc massif, we walk south, descending through woods to the Val Ferret and on to Issert (3,460ft/1,055m) and other pretty alpine farming villages. If you are visiting early in the season (June/July), this is a great day to see flowers in bloom, including orchids. We continue up the valley to the remote village of La Fouly (5,250ft/1,600m), which lies at the foot of Mont Dolent, whose summit marks the meeting point of France, Switzerland and Italy. Campsite: Camping les Glaciers, La Fouly

6
Day 6: Climb to Grand Col Ferret, the highest pass of the trek

Following the same valley and the river La Drance, we climb to the Grand Col Ferret (8,320ft /2,537m), the highest pass of the tour. Now in Italy, the valley is also called Val Ferret. The mountain views from the col are stunning, with Grandes Jorasses dominating the scene. We walk down the valley to Arp Nouva (5,800ft/1,770m) where we take an optional bus to Planpincieux (5,250ft/1,600m). For the first and last trip of the season, the bus may not be running and we may need to walk to camp. Campsite: Camping Grandes Jorasses, Val Ferret

7
Day 7: Rest day

Today is free for you to rest after the first week’s exertions. The nearby former spa towns of Courmayeur and Entrèves have picturesque older areas that are worth a visit, especially for keen photographers. We also highly recommend the Skyway cable car from La Palud to Point Helbronner (11,350ft/3,461m), which gives close-up views of all the big peaks. Tickets for the cable car can be purchased online or locally at La Palud. Alternatively you might wish to relax and recover in the spa baths at Pre Saint Didier a short bus ride from Courmayeur. It is recommended to book in advance for the spa to avoid disappointment, by clicking https://www.qcterme.com/en/pre-saint-didier/qc-terme-pre-saint-didier . Campsite: Camping Grandes Jorasses, Val Ferret

8
Day 8: Climb to Bonatti refuge and traverse high above the spectacular Val Ferret around Mont de la Saxe to Courmayeur and on to Val Veny

We start with a short bus ride to pick up the Tour du Mont Blanc route, and from the road (5,500ft/1,675m) climb up to the Bonatti refuge (6,640ft/2,025m). Today, we follow a beautiful contouring path around Mont de la Saxe to Courmayeur. The views of the south Mont Blanc massif are exceptional, as are those of the towering peaks of the Grandes Jorasses and the glaciers that crowd the northern flank of the Val Ferret. In the afternoon, we have a long, steep descent to Courmayeur (4,030m/1,230m) where there will be time to stop for a tasty Italian gelato before taking a short bus ride into the spectacular Val Veny (5,020ft/1,530m). Campsite: Camping Aiguille Noire, Val Veny

9
Day 9: Re-enter France across Col de la Seigne and through La Ville des Glaciers to Les Chapieux

Today’s trail climbs gently along the Val Veny, beneath the moraine of the massive Glacier du Miage. Passing Lac Combal, the gradient becomes steeper as we follow the old Roman road across the Col de la Seigne pass (8,250ft/2,516m), marking our re-entry into France. A fairly steep descent brings us through La Ville des Glaciers (5,870ft/1,789m) and finally to Les Chapieux (5,090ft/1,553m), a small hamlet only inhabited in summer. This is one of the longer walking days, but the experience of walking beneath a glacier and over the Col de la Seigne pass make the challenge well worth it. Campsite: Camping in Chapieux

10
Day 10: Climb to Col de la Croix du Bonhomme and contour around to Col du Bonhomme

We have now reached the southwest corner of the circuit and turn north to climb once again. Today is a longer day; first we make a steep climb to the Col de la Croix du Bonhomme (8,130ft/2,478m) and then contour around to the Col du Bonhomme (7,640ft/2,328m). We then descend (again on a Roman road) to our campsite in Les Contamines (5,900ft/1,180m). Campsite: Camping le Pontet, Les Contamines

11
Day 11: Rest day

A chance to rest or enjoy independent exploration. There are short and long optional walks in the area, many accessed by a chairlift or gondola, with spectacular views of Mont Blanc. Mountain cafes make a nice place for a scenic lunch. Alternatively, you could take the Mont Blanc cog-driven tramway to the Eagle’s Nest – the starting point for many aiming to conquer Mont Blanc itself. Otherwise, time can be spent visiting the half-day market in Les Contamines, or you can simply relax around town or in camp and recharge your batteries for the days ahead. Campsite: Camping le Pontet, Les Contamines

12
Day 12: Cross Col de Tricot and Col de Voza to re-enter Chamonix Valley and descend to village of Les Houches

Today will be another long but rewarding day as we return to the start point of our trek. We walk through Les Contamines, ascend to Chalets du Truc (5,614ft/1,720m) and then descend to the Chalets de Miage (4,120ft/1,560m). From here, we take the trail that climbs steeply to the Col de Tricot (6,950ft/2,119m) before descending very close to the snout of the Glacier de Bionnassay, where we will enjoy fabulous views of the northern side of the Mont Blanc massif. Eventually, we make another short ascent to reach the Col de Voza (5,418ft/1,652m), where we re-enter the Chamonix Valley and descend to the village of Les Houches (dependent on the time of year, there is an optional cable car descent from Bellevue to Les Houches). A short bus ride takes us to our camp in Les Bossons (3,320ft/1,012m). Campsite: Camping Les Marmottes, Les Bossons

13
Day 13: Some of the best views of Mont Blanc today on the long ascent to Brévent; descend to Plan Praz

We cross to the north side of the Chamonix Valley and climb through a pine forest. The high point of the day is Brévent (8,290ft/2,525m), from where there are panoramic views of the Mont Blanc massif and Chamonix Valley. We walk down to Plan Praz (6,460ft/1,970m), then descend by cable car to Chamonix and walk to our camp at Les Bossons (3,320ft/1,012m). It is possible to take the cable car descent from the top (dependent on the time of year). This extra journey will be payable locally should you choose not to walk. Our last day on the Tour du Mont Blanc circuit is long, with a tough climb of more than 4,920ft (1,500m), but affords the best views on the whole trek of Mont Blanc and neighbouring peaks. On our return to Les Bossons, we will have successfully completed the Tour du Mont Blanc. Campsite: Camping Les Marmottes, Les Bossons

14
Day 14: Free day at Les Bossons

Today is a free day for optional walks or sightseeing. Your leader can advise you of possible walking routes or you may choose to visit the bustling alpine resort town of Chamonix, which has numerous shops, bars, restaurants and cafes. There are several cable car excursions you can make from Chamonix, of which the most spectacular is the ascent to the Aiguille du Midi (12,600ft/3,842m), offering fantastic views of Mont Blanc and surrounding peaks. It should also be possible to take the mountain train up to Montenvers for close-up views of the Mer de Glace glacier, or if you are feeling adventurous you could enjoy a tandem paragliding flight. Campsite: Camping Les Marmottes, Les Bossons

15
Day 15: End Les Bossons

The adventure comes to an end in Les Bossons after breakfast. Start your return journey home, and perhaps start planning your next great walking adventure.

Tour du Mont Blanc Camping A fantastic 10 days of walking up and down mountains with beautiful scenery. Most Inspirational Moment Walking up 1,000m to cross over a col and see a valley spread out in front of us with lush mountain pastures to the left and a glaciar to the right Thoughts on Group Leader Fantastic. Agustin was the best guide I've had on one of these walking trips. He had incredible patience and was calm and funny the whole way through Advice for Potential Travellers This trip is for serious walkers or those who know they are in decent shape, not people who are couch potatoes and are looking for a challenge. You don't have to be fast, just in good shape so you won't be puffing away at the back and holding the group up. If you're not sure about camping vs hostels, pay the small extra charge and go camping with your own tent. The tents are huge and the hostels in the area particularly expensive. There are 2 nights of basic camping but otherwise, the camp site facilities are excellent. Ladies, invest in a she-wee. It's so much easier to role out of your sleeping bag and have a pee in your tent rather than having to get dressed and walk to the toilet. Suggestions This is a brilliant trip

Brilliant trip in the beautiful Alps We can’t recommend this trip highly enough – the trip is a challenging walk with more ascent and descent than Everest but the scenery, culture and experience are just outstanding. The sense of achievement on completing the TMB is amazing. Our group came from all corners of the world but we quickly formed a really close-knit group, together with our wonderful leaders Kieron and Shaun. The tents are spacious and the black-out means they stay cool, and dark in the mornings. Each day started with a chorus of unzipping the tents, and then we had breakfast and packed up the camp ready for the next days adventure. The trip is divided into 3-5 days of walking followed by a rest day, where you can chose from lots of activities, including chilling in the campsite, shopping, visiting a spa, e-biking, ascending by cable car or train to the glaciers, or even paragliding!! This allows tired legs to recover, and for everyone to have an adventure at their own pace. Kieron’s cooking was amazing, and we also ate out in restaurants on some nights which were included. The campsites are clean and quiet, and offer amazing up-close views of the mountains. Shaun was a great guide, with lots of local knowledge and he kept us all together, even on the toughest days. There was always time for coffee and cake at one of the many refuges or alpages along the route. Most Inspirational Moment Climbing up to the top of the Cols, to find yourself in another country - during the trip you pass from France to Switzerland, then Italy, and back to France again. The views are stunning and you know that it is going to be downhill all the way to the tent from then on!! Thoughts on Group Leader Shaun was our mountain guide. He judged the ability of the group really well, and found interesting variations to the route, when it was very busy. He had lots of local knowledge and was great company Kieron was the camp leader, and made sure we always had the flattest pitches, lots of lovely food, and a well-stocked bar! The organisation was brilliant, and he produced amazing food from his tiny kitchen, whilst inspiring us all with his paragliding stories. Even the washing up was a bonding experience! Advice for Potential Travellers We would really recommend camping on this trip - it was comfortable and added to the adventure, with stunning views from the front door of your tent. The group were really supportive, the route was well-planned and there was a lovely balance of organised and free time. The leaders absolutely made our trip so memorable, thank you to Kieron and Shaun!

Fantastic! Just returned from two weeks walking the Tour du Mont Blanc. It was a fantastic experience, at times hard work, but every drop of perspiration was worth the effort. Excellent group camaraderie; everyone got on very well and the two groups leaders – Shaun and Kieron – were first rate. The evening meals were very good, often restaurant standard. Would whole-heartedly recommend the trip. Just make sure you are fit enough for the challenge of the long climbs. Most Inspirational Moment Seeing the entire Mont Blanc massif from the other sides of the Chamonix and Aosta valleys. Thoughts on Group Leader Excellent. Shaun knew his stuff and didn't hold back from telling us when we would be challenged by the terrain. Guidance given when needed and always able to answer questions. Kieran - who looked after the logistics and cooking - was taylor-made for the role. He really should open his own restaurant. Advice for Potential Travellers Make sure you are fit enough before setting off. You don't need to be Superman / Superwoman but you do need to be prepared for long days of strenuous walking. Suggestions Great fun. Would definitely recommend.

2023 July Tour du Mont Blanc Camping Trek I had a fantastic time on the trek and made some great new friends. Some of the uphills were hard work, but the amazing scenery took my mind off it. We were lucky with the weather, most of the time it was warm and sunny. We had just light rain for a couple of hours on one day. Then on the last day just as we finished the trek and sat down at a local pub for a couple of beers. The rain started to hammer down for a while. I highly recommend doing the Tour du Mont Blanc Trek. I found the correspondence I had with Exodus before the trek was very good. If I had any questions they would respond to my emails right away. We stayed at camping sites in two men tents for the entire trip. The tents had plenty of room and each morning we were required to pack our tents up before we started that day’s trek. On the first day our guides Kieron and Mike showed us how to pack the tents up. After a couple of practices it became pretty easy to pack the tents up. And if someone had trouble with it, there was always someone there to help them out. At the end of each day when we arrived at the campsite, Kieron would have all our tents already set up for us. Most Inspirational Moment It is hard to just pick one moment for the trip. Every day there was something differrent and amazing to see. Thoughts on Group Leader Kieron our camp leader was amazing. He always had the tents set up for us at each camp site. Kieron also made us awesome meals throughout the trek. Mike was our guide during the trek each day. He was fantastic and full of knowledge about the local flora and fauna. Both Kieron and Mike had a fantastic attitude, they were always happy and smiling. If you had a question or needed help with something they were always there to help. Thank you very much Kieron, Mike and Exodus for such an amazing experience. Cheers Advice for Potential Travellers 1. The ascents on the trek are very steep, so make sure you are hiking fit. If you are not very experienced at mountain trekking. Then you should start training three or four months before you do the Tour du Mont Blanc trek. 2. Purchase good hiking boots and break them in before the trek and good hiking poles. 3. Make sure you have a good lightweight, warm and waterproof coat and pants. Even during the summer days it can get cold at the higher parts of the trek. 4. Carry at least 3 litres of water, a hat and some good sunscreen lotion. 5. I travelled from Australia, so I had a long flight to get to Geneva. So I decided to arrive four days early before the trek to get over the jet lag. If you are able then I highly recommend arriving a couple of days early. 6. Take a small power bank with you for charging your phone. There is a charger in the back of the truck with multiple charging ports for charging phones. But sometimes the charging ports were all being used. So I found it easier to charge my power bank in the truck when there was a free port. My power bank would then have enough power to charge my phone three times. Suggestions If you like hiking then I highly recommend doing the Tour du Mont Blanc Trek. The scenery is amazing and everyday is different. The trek is around 170km and the acents are very steep. So make sure you are fairly fit and train a few months before you do the trek.

Wonderful trip all around The camping trek around Mont Blanc was great fun. Perfect combination of challenge, reward, and just a fun group of people to be with. Our guide, Mike, kept us on track on the trail with very convenient breaks at refuges and summits keeping a steady pace that all could manage while not micromanging the group. Kieron kept our camp put together in almost always changing locations and created lovely meals. The sites were all well chosen and almost all had some sort of shade/rain cover which was lovely. Most Inspirational Moment The quiet moments on the summits just enjoying this beautiful part of the world were my favorite. Thoughts on Group Leader Mike and Kieron made a great team and worked well together. Advice for Potential Travellers You will enjoy this trip much more if you are in good shape before the trip. Your knees with thank you for bringing and using hiking poles as pretty much each day is up to a col or summit for lunch and then down to a valley to camp. Doing this trip over 14 days allowed for a relaxed pace with several rest days added in. If your group hikes relatively fast you will have plenty of time at camp to explore the towns, play games with your fellow guests, or just hang out and read a book. If you need something to do all the time you may want to pick one of the more compressed trip styles-- which would mean covering more ground each day with less down time in camp. Suggestions The guides and the trip itself were fantanstic. I was a bit frustrated by some of the lack of communication from exodus regarding changes to the group transfers and ended up booking them separately myself as was not able to sync with the group after changes. If you are flying from the UK or exodus is booking your flights you likely had a different experience. Overall a good experience and would be happy to travel with exodus again in the future.

Stunning Trip What an amazing trip from start to finish. The weather was perfect which made the trip even more special. One day of mist and drizzle which spoilt the views but not the walking experience. Kieran’s camp was fantastic, not to mention his cooking. It was amazing what he could produce out of his tiny kitchen. Loads of beer and wine. Tents good. Big enough to sleep two but not with bags as well so I paid extra for single use. Sleeping bag, mat and pillow also good quality. Most Inspirational Moment The scenery was stunning throughout, but the last day, climbing from the campsite to the top of the Brevant was a huge challenge. Mike advised us that the first part of the decent was challenging because of the snow conditions and a couple of ladders. I thought that if it was so bad he wouldn't risk taking us. Felt amazing to have completed the day and the tour. Thoughts on Group Leader Mike, was a fantastic leader. Encouraging, enthusiastic knowledgeable and inspirational. I am in awe of the variety of things he does. Advice for Potential Travellers A must do trip. A tent for single use is worth the extra money. Do your training as it pays off. Go up the Punta Helbonner cable care from La Palud near Courmayeur. It is stunning. Suggestions In the trip notes it should be made clearer that is more participatory camping than it makes out. Not a problem for me at all. Good luck to Mike and Keiran. Thank you.

An amazing adventure walking amongst the beautiful alps What a fantastic trip. I didn’t really know what to expect but I was blown away by the beautiful scenery and camping amongst the Alps. Our group and camp leaders Mike and Kieron were fabulous – fun, helpful and just great to hang out with. I’d do some training for the walk as it can be demanding but our group leader made sure the pace was manageable. We had a great group of people and I recommend the camping tour as we all became quite close pitching in and hanging out together. The tents were roomy and comfortable and the campgrounds we stayed in were also quite comfortable. Kieron made us beautiful meals, we certainly were fed well!! I definitely give this tour 5 stars, it’s challenging, beautiful, and you’ll make some life long friends. Most Inspirational Moment The most inspirational times of the trip for me was making it to the top of some of those tough climbs and experiencing the most incredible scenery. Thoughts on Group Leader Our group leader Mike was amazing, as was our camp leader Kieron. Mike was knowledgeable, friendly and took great care of the group. I felt safe and looked after. The walking was sometimes challenging, but Mike set a pace on the tough parts to get us all to the top and the views were worth every step. Kieron was an amazing camp leader. His dinners were delicious and a cold beer was always waiting for us at camp. We had a lot of fun with our leaders. Advice for Potential Travellers My advice to other travellers would be to do some training for this walk. It is in the Alps and there are a lot of ups and downs which can be steep but in saying that the views are always amazing. I got a real sense of accomplishment on reaching the top of those big ascents. The camping was great I totally recommend going that way. The tents were big and comfortable for two people and it really brings the group together with everyone pitching in and hanging out. Loved it!!!

What a Trip! Before I left my girlfriend was teasing me about spending two weeks camping with creepy crawlies and having to eat tinned spaghetti hoops every night. In truth it could not have been more different. Kieron the camp leader was great, tents were put up for us, beers were cold, the food was healthy, tasty and home cooked and exceeded all expectations. The tents were modern and roomy, I paid extra for a single but they are more than big enough for two. Campsites were good and the mat, pillow and sleeping bag I rented were all just fine. We were really well looked after. The trek was superb too – I’m a really pleased I chose to do the full thing. Most Inspirational Moment I was surprised at how big, dramatic and beautiful the Alps are. I got some great photos. I also really enjoyed the group atmosphere and I loved the outdoorsy side to the whole trip. It felt healthy. Thoughts on Group Leader Mike was amazing! Made every member of the group feel included, had tonnes of knowledge about the area to impart and was all round a positive person to have leading us for the two weeks. Advice for Potential Travellers I recommend walking poles and a steady pace Suggestions Do the full trek, it is worth it.

How to make it the whole TMB This trip offers more of the TMB route than most of the trips that I looked into, but it doesn’t do it all. If you read the trip notes carefully you’ll realise that there is a section in Val Ferret which may be missed out, and the section from Courmayeur to Lac Combal is bypassed. When we were on the trip we realised there were two other bits to be missed out. From Les Houches towards Brevent, and from Plan Praz to La Flegere. The good news is that, if you do want to do the whole tour then it can be done within the trip: Val Ferret – get your leader to take the bus all the way back up to Arp Nouva, where you stopped the previous day, rather than at an earlier stop point. There is plenty of time, this is what our group did. From Courmayeur – you can catch a bus to Courmayeur on your day off, walk the route to where it drops down to the path to Lac Combal, & then walk down to La Visaille where you can get a bus back to Courmayeur/the campsite. Les Houches – either persuade your leader to take the bus back to Les Houches & start from there, or walk the missing section on the final day off Plan Praz to La Flegere – add this onto the final planned day. You then take the cable car down from La Flegere rather than Plan Praz (the ticket works for both) & that’s the whole TMB done ??

Fantastic TMB Like a previous reviewer I found this much harder that Toubkal or EBC. The walks seem to be up all morning and down in the afternoon. Some of the downs were very hard on the Knees. Despite this the effort was well rewarded with the stunning scenary. Having to put your tent away before brerakfast required some effort, specially if you didn’t master the technique. Camp meals were always filling, and never went hungary. Although breakfast did get a bit repetitive. The group van always contained a cold beer at the end of the day, which was very welcome. I hired my sleeping bag and matt from exodus and the bag was nice and warm, but maybe the matts could have been a bit thicker. Really felt the rocks some nights. Would bring my own next time Most Inspirational Moment Finishing Advice for Potential Travellers Train harder than you think you need. Wifi in camps were not brillant, could be aproblem if you need it at all times. If your not feeling to good, and need a day off from walking, it can be a long trip. One of our group needed 5 buses on one day, to get to the next camp

Incredible! Man what a trip! in equal parts stunning and tough – the TMB absolutely delivered. Every day we were treated with a gruelling ascent, a toe bashing descent and simply incredible views all the way through. The tour guide and the camp manager were just fabulous too – the guide wasnt just an IML but also a trained biologist clearly deeply in love with Mother nature – to learn a little about the local flora and fauna whilst also feeling completely at ease and secure knowing your guide has your back was just lovely – it meant we could concentrate on putting one foot in front of the other and just enjoy the ride. Our camp manager Vega cooked us some seriously delicious food on only 4 camp stoves – it smelled so good she had random campers coming up to ask what she was cooking! The camps where all lovely – some perhaps a little more loud than others but overall, as far as a camping trip goes, it was pretty darn luxurious. Would do this again in a heartbeat Most Inspirational Moment Honestly just completing it was the biggest thing for me. I was quite worried ahead of the trip whether I would be fit enough - and there were definitely some times where I really had to push myself but thanks to the pacing set by our guide Jef, we all managed it and that last day, with the longest ascent all the way from camp to Brevent was super tough but getting to the top and being presented with some bubbly was the perfect end to an epic trip Thoughts on Group Leader Jef was awesome. Part mountain goat, he went running on the days off, casually just doing our walk of the day before in about 3.5 hours. He was also a trained biologist so we were treated to some lovely knowledge bites on local flowers and bugs. Always had a smile on his face and you just felt completely safe with him - he knew just how to get the best out of the group so no one ever felt like they were too slow. he is definitely one of the best if not THE best guide I have had on a walking trip. Thank you Jef! Advice for Potential Travellers Doing a bit of strength definitely helped me - it wont make it easier, but at least I didnt have to worry about muscle aches. The more walking you can do beforehand the better as your legs are just better prepared for the work they have to do - but mostly, just enjoy the experience... from the camps to the gruelling ascents - its such a treat, especially when its sunny. Oh - and speaking of sunny - factor 50 all the way, even if you are a professional tanner.. the sun is hot hot hot and strong strong strong! Suggestions Just do it - you wont regret it

Brilliant holiday Superb surroundings, excellent company, knowledgeable guide and friendly support staff Most Inspirational Moment The ever changing scenery The fantastic bonding with other group members and the atmosphere in camp The delicious meals prepared by our camp support Vega on limited camping equipment. Thoughts on Group Leader Jef was a very kind, caring, knowledgeable guide who also had a great sense of humour. He was very pragmatic about any issues any group members had and was extremely good at supporting people during the 2 weeks at the same time inspiring us to explore other destinations for our next trips. Advice for Potential Travellers Enjoy the experience! The trail is well planned to build up your strength and stamina for the hard walks towards the end of the holiday. Take a spare pair of shoes that you could walk in in case of problems with your main walking boots/ shoes (it is very tough on your feet even for well practiced walkers). Suggestions This holiday was an absolutely fantastic experience. It is in a beautiful part of the world and the organisation was excellent to make it a really special holiday.

2019 TMB Trek Our recent TMB was excellent. Not only did we have spectacular weather to go along with the stunning scenery we had two top notch guides in John and Emily. The pace John set for the 14 trekkers was bang on; resting when called for and pushing us as we needed to be coupled with a great ?? sense of humour. Emily made certain out campsite was setup each evening after our long treks and cooked us fabulous meals given we were camping ??. Her energetic personality provided a welcome spark especially at the beginning of the day. G Adventures in Peru ???? were really great ?? too but Exodus our did them with respect to quality of the guides and the excellent dinners. A little more variety in breakfasts and lunches is strongly ?? recommended for sure. I would also suggest stretching the tour to 14 days given there are currently some extraordinarily long days of trekking. Another trip of a lifetime for me. Thanks John and Emily! ?? Most Inspirational Moment The energy from other trekkers to grind out the long hikes each day

A trip of a lifetime We did the TMB in July – 14 trekkers from Canada. John and Emily were our guides and they were amazing. I can actually say I learned how to walk again in the mountains with John’s careful guiding instructions. By the end of the trek, we were able to trek straight up 4 km with a verticle of 1500 m. There is no way we could have done this without our amazing guides. I cannot say enough about Exodus and the people who work with this amazing organization. They are truly professional and we are well into planning our next group trek for July 2020 to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Can’t wait! Most Inspirational Moment Making it to Brevant at 1500 m on the last day and looking down into the valley and seeing Chamonix, realizing that we had done it. Easily one of the most challenging treks I have ever done! Thoughts on Group Leader John was amazing. He is truly a gifted leader and I would recommend him for any group planning a trek in the Alps. Very wise and experienced, a really amazing leader and teacher. Emily was wonderful. The two of them worked together as an expert team. They were both what made the trip an incredible success. Advice for Potential Travellers You certainly need to train for the TMB. Once you have done this please listen to your guides, they really know what they are doing and you need to listen and trust them. Exodus has chosen well and their guides are truly amazing. Suggestions Thank-you Exodus - Tony, John and Emily did everything they could to make this trip a huge success. We were able to raise over $35,000 for recreation programs for kids here in Ottawa, Canada. Exodus is a great partner for us and Christie Lake Climb for Kids will be trekking again with Exodus in 2020, this time all the way to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro!

Mont Blanc camping trek I did the Mont Blanc camping Hike it late June 2019 with a group of 7. The first day i had doubts i would make it from the uphill climb, it was tough. I got in better shape as the trip progressed, i made it. 110 mile hike, the scenery was incredible, its just awesome. Exodus employees were great. If your in shape you can do this trip, we slept in tents, hike 1000 meters uphill some days. You break camp in the morning and hike to your next destination, the hotel group stayed in the hotel we camped two different trips Most Inspirational Moment Finishing the hike at almost 1500 meters uphill. what a great trip. Thoughts on Group Leader Aglier or (AGS) was great really helpful, she made the trip fun. Advice for Potential Travellers Get in shape before you go, don't pack to much stuff like i did. Its going to be tough don't complain, expect it. Be very careful when walking i fell 3 times on the snow and mud, but not on the rocks Suggestions Thanks Exodus

Fantastic Trip - Tour de Mont Blanc Camping The trip was very well organised. The scenery was amazing. Fantastic views and trails. Our tour guide, Augustine, was exceptional, very knowledgeable about landscape and flora. He set a good pace, was very supportive to the whole group. Augustine is an excellent ambassador for Exodus. Our camp leader, Kieron, was equally good. The camp was well organised and comfortable. The equipment provided was very good. The tents had blackout linings which were very helpful. The food was excellent – Kieron is a very good cook. We really appreciated the tea, coffee and biscuits being readily available and the well stocked bar. All in all, a fantastic experience and we would thoroughly recommend this trip. The group was a great mix of ages (early twenties to mid sixties) and personalities. Alastair and Louise Bowie August 2023 Most Inspirational Moment The trails and the scenery. Thoughts on Group Leader Both were exceptional. See above. Advice for Potential Travellers The breakfasts were a bit samey. A little more variety would go down well.

Another one ticked off the bucket list! Fantastic experience with a great group! This is one of the great hikes in the world and a fantastic way to experience the Alps. The camping element added to the camaraderie of the group and saw us all bond quickly. Paul was an excellent leader, very knowledgeable on the mountains, nature and wildlife, his company and humor were very much appreciated! Kieron managed the camp to perfection with his excellent cooking and organisation, and always ready with an story to share. Don’t expect to lose much weight on this trip! Spectacular adventure This was our first group travel expedition and it did not disappoint. We had been looking at this trip for a number of years through another tour company but we went with Exodus because of the supporting camping option which the other company did not offer (and a benefit that we thoroughly enjoyed). We found the entire experience to be very positive, professional and well organized with just the right amount of flexibility so that we didn’t feel like we were micro-managed. Our mountain guide was experienced and did a very good job of watching over the group while allowing us to go at our own pace (within reason). The camp support leader was funny, helpful, and a fantastic cook. The near-perfect weather and jaw dropping views obviously played a big part in how much we enjoyed this trip but I definitely think that the quality of this trip was above the pack. Most Inspirational Moment Every valley and every col had its own 'personality' and this made each day different. I loved turning a corner and discovering another fantastic view. It was also nice to be with a group so that the experience could be shared with others. Thoughts on Group Leader Shaun, our mountain leader was knowledgeable and experienced. He knew the route and the region well and provided very accurate introductions to each day's hiking. His pace was as steady as a metronome and perfect for the speed of our group. Once he understood our capabilities on an individual level he was good about letting us go on ahead or lag behind the pack if that's what we preferred. I definitely felt like I was in capable hands. Peter our camp support was so much fun and a delight to see at the end of each day because he has such a positive and warm personality. We arrived to a camp that was already set up which allowed us to chill out and relax as soon as we arrived. His cooking was fantastic and much better than the few restaurant dinners we had along the way. He was good about ensuring that each of the group members had what they needed for breakfasts and lunches. Advice for Potential Travellers Be very honest with yourself when evaluating your abilities if you're considering this trip. Our group overall was comprised of fairly experienced hikers. I think that someone who's not able to maintain the group pace would risk not enjoying this trip themselves and also negatively impacting the group. Proper equipment is also a must. Weather can change quickly and being unprepared can make for a miserable and potential hazardous day. Suggestions I loved the supported camping option on this trip. I think the group had much more fun and bonded more than we would have had we stayed in hotels.
