Experience Overview
For history, archaeology and mythology, the Peloponnese is arguably the most interesting part of Greece. Our week of cycling is a journey through fascinating classical history and a superb variety of landscapes, from the azure blue sea to the green olive trees and vineyards of the heart of Greece. Starting and finishing in Athens, the ride offers plenty of opportunities to discover some of the country’s treasures, such as Poros island and the beautiful town of Nafplio. Each day gives us the chance to sample excellent local food in various restaurants and tavernas and immerse ourselves in the Greek culture and lifestyle.

Trip For You
This tour is classified Road and Activity Level 3 (Moderate). For more information on our trip gradings please visit our Activity Level Guidelines page. If you have any queries about the difficulty of the trip please do not hesitate to contact us.
Five days cycling with an average distance of 29mi (47km) per dayPartial vehicle support (limited seats)There are no transfers to or from hotels on this trip, all the rides are door-to-door
Road conditions are usually good, but will be pot-holed in places. We aim to use quiet roads where possible, but sometimes we need to pass busy sections to reach the quiet roads on the other side. On Day 2, we will be cycling through Athens, where traffic can be intense; the leader will keep the group together and warn of any areas they know to be busy.
Group Description
Normally four to 16, plus leader and support driver.
Eating Drinking
All breakfasts included.
Breakfasts are generally Greek buffet-style with bread/toast, butter, jam, fresh juice, milk, local yoghurt, honey, and coffee or tea. We have not included any evening meals in the price of the trip to allow you more freedom over where and what you eat. There are some fantastic restaurants along the route and your guide can recommend their favourite places based on your personal tastes and budget. Greek food has strong influences from Italy and Turkey; expect lots of vegetables, olive oil, bread, and meats, including lamb, chicken and pork.
Transportation
Transfers to and from the airport will be by private vehicle (normally minibus). All the rides are designed to be door-to-door, however we take boats on certain days. On Day 2, we take a ferry to Poros Island. Please note, the ferry timetable is modified frequently at very short notice. On occasion, we may have to take an early ferry, in which case the Athens visit will be done at the end of the trip (on the last day before the flight). On Day 7, we usually take a bus from Loutraki to Athens. While cycling, the vehicle will carry your baggage and is available if you choose to ‘sit out’ a section of the ride (limited seats available).

Itinerary
We begin at our hotel in the capital of Greece. In the evening, we have our welcome briefing, in which we meet the tour leader and come together for the first time. Get some rest tonight, the cycling starts early tomorrow.
In the morning, we cycle down one of the major bike lanes in the city, heading to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, where we take a short transfer to the busy port of Piraeus. Here we catch the ferry (approximately 2hr 30min) across the Argo-Saronic Gulf to the island of Poros. In Poros, we cycle around the island, passing the Russian naval base and many small, beautiful bays. After an ascent to the temple of Poseidon, we have a steep descent to Askeli beach where our hotel is located and we can enjoy a refreshing swim. Please note, the ferry timetable is often modified at very short notice. On occasion, we may have to take an early ferry. Route: First part is flat with a gradual downhill in Athens. The second part is a gradual ascent to Poseidon’s Temple, then undulating and then steep downhill to our hotel. Terrain: 100% paved road.
In the morning, after a walking tour of Poros town, we take a five-minute boat ride to the Peloponnese mainland. Cycling through olive groves and quiet hamlets, we start our ascent along one of the most impressive coastlines in Greece, enjoying views of the Aegean Sea. Our tour takes us through ancient Trizina, birthplace of the Minotaur-slaying hero Theseus. Not far away is the beach, where we can have a short break, swim and a small lunch. The fantastic views throughout today’s ride are our reward for two big ascents – over 2.5mi (4km) and 1.85mi (3km) – that we climb after lunch. They lead to a 1.2mi (2km) steep descent to the ancient town of Epidaurus. Palia Epidaurus (Old Epidaurus) is built around a natural harbor and is our base for the night. Route: First part is flat with a gradual downhill in Athens. The second part is a gradual ascent to Poseidon’s Temple, then undulating and then steep downhill to our hotel. Terrain: 100% paved road.
After an uphill ride of approximately 6mi (10km), there is an optional visit to the ancient site of Epidaurus. This UNESCO World Heritage site is home to a 15,000-seater amphitheater, which was built for Asclepius, the god of medicine, and is renowned for its size, symmetry and acoustics. If you don’t want to go in, relax in the shaded gardens or cafeterias outside the site. After refuelling, we have a 1.2mi (2km) uphill ride, then a 6.2mi (10km) descent through some mountain roads towards the sea. The last ascent today is almost 1mi (1.5km) and takes us to the town of Tolo, where we stay tonight. Route: Long but gradual ascent to Lygourio, short ascent after the Epidaurus Theater and a long, steep and bumpy decent towards the sea, then almost flat until Tolo except for a small ascent. Terrain: 99% paved road.
Leaving Tolo, we cycle on the main road for 7.5mi (12km) and make our way to Nafplio, one of the most beautiful cities in Greece and the capital in the early 1800s. Situated on the hillsides at the northern end of the Argolic Gulf, the town has numerous neoclassical buildings plus the Palamidi Castle. Today, we can also enjoy an off-road adventure: a 6.2mi (10km) round trip to the beach nearest Karathonas, enjoying the beautiful coastline and a swim. After our return, we leave the coast and start our ride to the heart of the Peloponnese, making our way to Mycenae. We cycle through orange groves until we start an ascent of 3mi (5km) to an archaeological site at the top of the hill. The imposing Lion Gate, built around 1350-1200 BCE, awaits. Outside the walls, we can see the wonders for which Mycenae is known: the vault-shaped tombs of Lions, Aegisthus and Clytemnestra, and the Treasury of Atreus. An optional visit of the site is highly recommended. Route: Flat to Nafplio, then dirt road to Karathonas Beach, then flat and, at the end, a long ascent to Mycenae. Terrain: 80% paved, 20% dirt road.
Today is the longest ride! We start by gradually climbing on the main road for 8mi (13km) until we reach Ancient Nemea, where Hercules killed the Nemean lion and where the Nemean games were held. Here we visit an archaeological site and ancient stadium before we ride through vineyards. The town of Nemea is now known for producing exceptional wine and we visit one of the wineries, learn about the process and taste (a little) before we continue our journey on quiet country roads. The first part is undulating, then we have a 6.2mi (10km) descent towards the Gulf of Corinth. We continue by the seaside to Corinth and then Loutraki, where we spend the night. Route: Gradual but long uphill to the winery then an undulating section, followed by a gradual decent towards the sea and then almost completely flat towards the hotel. Terrain: 100% paved road.
From Loutraki, we take the bus to Athens and a metro to Plaka, the historic downtown. Here we enjoy a guided tour of the Acropolis before a walking tour of the city center. Our route takes us at a relaxed pace to some of the must-see sites: Monastiraki square and the Ancient Library, the Roman Forum and Tower of the Winds, the Temple of Olympian Zeus and Hadrian’s Arch, the Greek Parliament and the National Gardens, and the monumental 19th-century buildings of the oldest Greek university. Enjoy a free evening to sample more delicious Greek food.
The trip ends after breakfast. However, if you’d like more time to explore this fascinating ancient city, speak to your sales representative about extending your stay.

Great cycling trip Our first time visiting Greece and it did not disappoint. The scenery was beautiful. The weather excellent and our fellow travellers were great company. The food was delicious, with plenty of choice. The hotels were clean and comfortable. Our guides were awesome and looked after us incredibly well. Most Inspirational Moment This happened on the last but one night on our trip. Earlier in the day we’d been wine tasting and Dimitris had taken great care to ask us which were our favourite wines. On our way to dinner we were taken to a jetty to watch the sunset, and with a flourish, bottles of the most popular wines were produced for us to enjoy. We were all encouraged (if we wanted to) to stand up and say a few words about what we’d enjoyed, learned or been surprised by on the trip. It was a lovely idea, and I think we all enjoyed the moment (and the wine!). Thoughts on Group Leader Our group leaders were Niovi Stasinou & Dimitris Gotsis, with Niovi leading the cycling and sorting out the many bike maintenance issues and Dimitris driving the support vehicle and doing the shopping for our delicious lunches they both prepared. Niovi led the cycling at a very sensible pace. She was very diligent with regards to our safety and made us aware of how she expected us to cycle on the busier roads. She kept us safe, and we also had Dimitris providing cover at the back of the line. They were constantly in contact with each other, providing feedback if anyone was slowing down at the back of the line. They also stopped the traffic at busier junctions, to allow us safe crossing. I was a little apprehensive about the promised picnic lunches, but they were beautifully presented and were absolutely delicious. The choice of evening restaurants were also first class. It was lovely that they both always joined us for our evening meal, although they didn’t really sit still and relax and were constantly on the move, sorting out what we would be eating, explaining the drinks menu and generally looking after us, and we were a full group of 16. They were great fun, friendly, informative and were excellent ambassadors for Exodus and Greece. We loved spending time with them. Advice for Potential Travellers The cycling was not too demanding. There were some good up hills and some very steep descents where great care needed to be taken. The weather was beautiful and very warm at times, so be prepared for that. We were provided with frequent water stops to keep us hydrated in the heat. We also had stops for snacks. Don’t be afraid to do this trip as there was absolutely no pressure to cycle at a fast pace. Suggestions We’ve been on many Exodus holidays over the years, and gladly paid into the kitty to cover tips, snacks etc. This was the first time ever that we were provided with all of the receipts to check at the end of the holiday, and then how much we were to be reimbursed. It was very refreshing and made us think that other tour leaders should be encouraged to provide the same level of transparency.

Great cycling trip! I had a great time cycling around Greece with Exodus. The scenery on each day was so diverse, from cycling along the coast, through vineyards and mountains. No two days of cycling were the same. The tour guide was excellent, he always found the best places for lunch, usually off the beaten track and told interesting Greek Myths during our breaks. I would highly recommend this trip! Most Inspirational Moment Cycling along the coast to a Greek hut where we sat and had lunch. It was so secluded and all of the guests had the chance to swim in the clear blue waters whilst the guide prepared a very fresh lunch. Thoughts on Group Leader Dimitris was great. He was very friendly, knowledgeable about all things to do with Greek Mythology, and kept the right cycling pace for the group. He was also very thoughtful and printed some photos for each customer at the end of the trip and ensured we tried all of the Greek delicacies.

A fantastic cycling holiday This was a very enjoyable cycle tour with a wonderful combination of cycle routes, spectacular scenery, excellent food and beer/wine, history and mythology . The two guides Dimitri S and Dimitri G excelled at making sure everyone was looked after and nothing was too much trouble – from providing vehicle support to explaining Greek history and recommending local wines. Most Inspirational Moment Being able to swim in the sea three times in different seas all in the same day. Stopping at the ancient Olympic site at Namea and running the 200m for which everyone received a Laurel garland. Thoughts on Group Leader Both D1 and D2 were fantastic - knowledgeable, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Advice for Potential Travellers With the combination of cycling, scenery, local cuisine, history and mythology I would definitely recommend this tour. For anyone unsure about the distances or difficulty then hiring an E-bike makes this an achievable and rewarding trip.

A unique way to explore Greece, Gods and Myths Our very first Exodus trip (recommended by friends) commenced apprehensively (and very early) in the Terminal 5 Lounge at Heathrow. After a couple of ‘Pineapple Juices’ for breakfast and 40 winks on the plane we were soon at our hotel to meet the Group Leaders Dimitris and Dimitris soon being referred to as D1 and D2. Very soon the eclectic mix of people were entrusting the next 7 days of cycling, eating, drinking, swimming and dancing with D1 & D2. We couldn’t have made a better choice. We had fantastic cycling, the snacks, lunches and juices that D2 provided in support were excellent and D1 and D2 excelled at their dinner choices every evening giving us a superb taste of local foods (at very reasonable prices). D2 (the wine connoisseur) helped us choose the best wines to go with the meals, although he was not put out when the odd carafe of house red, or the local beers were ordered as well! D1 and especially D2 excelled in imparting their local knowledge, Greek history and Greek Mythology at many of our stops to visit ancient sights and places of historical interest. Even better were the lunches that they prepared and the snacks they offered during the days. In summary, D1 and D2 were fabulous The rest of the group got involved to make it so enjoyable. We had a fabulous time and met some great people. What a fantastic lot! We loved it. Most Inspirational Moment Hearing two American young lads Hum Ave Maria in the Mycenae Tomb of Clytemnestra. The sound / resonance was amazing. This was closely followed by a Pink Floyd rendition from "Dark Side of the Moon" in the same tomb! Our first ever trip to the Acropolis wasn't bad either. Thoughts on Group Leader Our group leader Dimitris S was great, but it was made so much better with Dimitris G as support. I am sure that they work well individually, but they make a great pair. Their knowledge and support were excellent. I had to leave the group on the last morning for personal reasons, and they both helped me out in getting to where I was going. Advice for Potential Travellers Please come along to enjoy the cycling, but make sure that you get involved with the group and join in with all the other activities - you won't regret it. The cycling and scenery are great - you can even swim (or just paddle) most days if you want. We did have a couple of issues with electric bikes, but it didn't detract from the holiday. It just meant that some had to peddle harder than others! (These were sorted out). Suggestions If all Exodus trips are as good as this then you will be in for a treat which ever trip you do.

Scenery, sites, salads and stories I originally booked this trip for summer 2020, it was rolled over twice due to the pandemic, but my word, it was a trip worth waiting for! Challenging cycling, spectacular scenery, fabulous food, and heaps of history – it has something for everyone, and then some. One of the best trips I have ever done (and this is my 12th with Exodus), “Team Dimitris” made it a wonderful re-introduction to cycling holidays abroad after the last few years of uncertainty. Most Inspirational Moment As a student of ancient history, visiting Epidarus and Mycenae could not be beaten. As a cyclist, the scenery was simply stunning, especially the Nafplio coastline. As a foodie, absolutely all of it! Thoughts on Group Leader Dimitris on the bike and Dimitris in the van have to be the best double act on an Exodus trip I have ever had the privilege to be a part of. Their meticulous attention to detail with elevation profiles and distances, maps, carefully selected snack and rest spots, and particularly their choices of local cuisine, meant that everything ran smoothly and all we had to do was pedal along, eat, and enjoy ourselves. The real magic though was in their storytelling - if you love Greek myths (or even if you don't), you will be spellbound. Advice for Potential Travellers Be open to sharing evening meals (and a kitty for arranging lunches, snacks, and drinks). Team Dimitris chose a wonderful selection of local dishes on each day which, when shared between all, meant our group could try a huge variety of delicious food at a really reasonable price. Handing over the decision-making never tasted so good!! The itinerary is quite a busy one but regardless of how hot or tired you might feel, keep going! You won't want to miss out on a single thing. Suggestions Go for it, you won't regret it!

Fantastic trip! This is our 6th guided cycling trip with Exodus. I realized how much 2 great guides, both named Dimitris, can add to a trip. Not only was the cycling interesting and varied, both Dimitris planned lunches, ordered food for us for dinner, had us stop at museums, and took us on extra little trips, such as visiting tombs after dinner. This trip was beyond my expectations. There is so much to see in the Peloponnese area: so many beautiful ruins of temples, baths, theaters, stadiums….And “The Dimitris” were passionate about their country and Greece’s mythology. I thought nothing could top Romania, Morocco and South Africa, but this trip just might have done that. Most Inspirational Moment The seas were so blue and the flowers were so intensely colored. I was inspired to buy Greek Olive oil instead of Italian! Oh, and I learned that I love ouzo. Thoughts on Group Leader The group leaders were incredibly well-planned and had even drawn up an elevation-gain map. So organized. Advice for Potential Travellers Be ready to enjoy fantastic food and views. Read some mythology before you go. Perhaps read the Iliad and the Odessey (even if you read the approachable graphic novels--it's still good). Suggestions I highly recommend this trip.

Great cycling trip and super food This was our seventh cycling trip in Europe but our first with Exodus. It was up there with the best of our past trips. The bikes were good (brand new), the hotels as good or better than expected and the guides were excellent. We managed the climbs ok and felt increasingly confident as the week progressed. One of the nice things about this trip is being by the sea. A real highlight was the food organised by Niovi and Demetrius – the snacks, lunches and the dinners. Delicious, good value and time effective. We were a small group and all were good company. We recommend this trip! Most Inspirational Moment Sitting up high at the amazing Epidauros amphitheatre, taking it all in and looking across at the Greek landscape. Thoughts on Group Leader Excellent - Niovi is great fun and a super organiser and Demetrius a terrific driver, cook, teller of stories, additional guide. They made a great team and added various fun or thoughtful surprises for us. Their organising of the food was exceptional and a real highlight of the holiday. Advice for Potential Travellers There are some good climbs on this trip but, having done cycling trips before and practiced on the local hills in the weeks just before going, we coped ok and are now up for more 'moderate' trips. Suggestions If you have the time, you could perhaps add a couple of extra days and extend your visit. We went to Meteora to see the wonderful scenery and monasteries in the mountains. We organised a two night trip via train and Exodus switched our return flight from the Saturday to the Monday afternoon. It added another dimension to the holiday.

Great Trip! Excellent trip. A nice combination of historical sites and cycling. Our local guides offered to provide guidance for the evening meals so the culinary experience was also top notch. The two guides were both very passionate about sharing their history and culture. I can’t say enough good things about Dimitris Steriotis and Dimitris Gotsis. Most Inspirational Moment It is literally hard to pick as there were three categories of highlights: Favourite site: the theatre at Epidarous Cycling: the km downhill stretch into the pistachio orchard Meal: Petite Planette Other fav: swimming in the Aegean Sea Thoughts on Group Leader Both group leader and support driver were excellent. Dimitris and Dimitris were a good team that worked well together. Advice for Potential Travellers Be open to eating with group. Do some long rides with uphill before you go. Prepare to enjoy yourself. Suggestions Excellent trip, thanks very much.

Awesome trip Our guides were great. They shared their passion for Greek History, Greek culture, Greek food and cycling. Most Inspirational Moment When I was able to ride down switchbacks and think that it was fun, rather than terrifying! Thoughts on Group Leader I found both Dimitris ‘ to be very supportive. I am a relatively new cyclist and they helped me get more comfortable with many aspects of cycling. Advice for Potential Travellers Don’t be shy about sharing your meals! The guides picked well, the food was terrific and the cost was reasonable. We got to taste many dishes this way! Suggestions I think it would be terrific if Exodus could organize cycling jerseys for sale to participants, that symbolize Greece in some way. That would be s great souvenir for me.

Cycling in Greece All accommodations were excellent Bikes were in good condition, two flat tires reported the entire trip. Some group members thought they were to heavy. Snacks and meals were delicious, a good selection of Greek foods. Side excursions good as well Most Inspirational Moment Personally I loved Poros island, the dinner we had on the seafront, with the sunset, and our toes in the sand?? Thoughts on Group Leader Our guide was great (Niovi), she was always smiling and cheerful, she was able to turn us into a relaxed cohesive group. We had lots of laughs. Advice for Potential Travellers Be aware of the climate when you are planning to travel. Our trip was mid September and we rode in temperatures in the mid 30C. Suggestions Because it was very warm by 10am, it would have been a more pleasant cycle to start earlier in the morning when possible.

cycle in greece have been on quite a few cycle holidays with exodus and exp[;lore and always have given 5 or 4 star ratings, this time only 3 star. This was mainly down to the tour leader Demitreas who is a bit set in his ways. There was an unusual heat wave for that time of year and temps were up to 90degree . by midday. This would of been OK as they have you on the bikes by 8 am most mornings when its cooler. The problem was we would be only riding for a short distance, and then stop to see some really interesting ruin then a massive lunch spread laid on which is very nice.Consequently we would start off after all this food about 2pm. doing fairly difficult climbs and distance in the main heat of the day. I had numerous conversations with Demitreas with regard to changing the itinerary to suit the weather conditions but he was quite an arrogant chappy who was not prepared to compromise. OTHER than that the trip was pretty good with decent accommodation and a friendly group. It will not put me off on booking future trips. Most Inspirational Moment The hotel; stay up in the mountains was fabulous, good food and very chilled Thoughts on Group Leader The group leader was a girl called Naovi who was absolutely lovely.,but as explained above Demitrias was calling all the shots and making all the decisions, I think he was training Naovi.Get rid of him and keep her.

They were knowledgeable engaging and did a many things that made the trip more of an adventure and and an experience I will never forget Advice for Potential Travellers Our group chose to share dinners. This allow us to share our day's experience , get to know one another and eat more great food.

Cycling In Greece This was our first trip with Exodus Travels and to Greece. This was an excellent way to really see the countryside of Greece. We went to many local places that your average tour bus trips would not go. We had a larger group of 16 people so we were fortunate to have two fantastic guides (Niovi and Demitrius) as well as a wonderful driver. (Also named Demetrius) This trip is highly recommended if you want to see more of the local culture of Greece. My only suggestion is to definitely upgrade the quality of bikes used on this trip. On our last day of the trip my husband had a small medical emergency. Niovi helped us handle this situation with complete professionalism and ease. She helped us locate a private doctor in Athens (on a Saturday!) stayed with us, and helped with translation with the doctor. We both will be forever grateful for her assistance! Most Inspirational Moment We loved visiting the ancient Theater of Epidarus as well as being able to visit a local organic vineyard and see the production in action, as well as sample some fantastic wine! Also, just some of the breathtaking views of the ocean from our hotel room. Thoughts on Group Leader As I have mentioned above I cannot say enough good things about our lead guide, Niovi. She went beyond her job duties to help us in a stressful time of need. She was very personable and tried to met all the needs of our group members which is a difficult task with 16 people! Advice for Potential Travellers Please make sure you read the travel description of this trip and that you are physically able to ride a bike at least 25-35 miles comfortably and can climb hills. This trip is described as a moderate difficulty level and if you are not as fit as you should be then request an ebike so you can fully participate. Suggestions Exceptional trip with many opportunities to learn about the history and culture of Greece.

Brilliant trip in beautiful Greece A brilliant trip from start to finish. The cycling is a nice mix of countryside, coastal and a few hills thrown in. You also get to see Greece away from hustle of tourists. The cycling is all on mostly quiet roads and through a couple of towns although you’re not on any busy roads for more than a few minutes. The food is also excellent, and you also get some excellent local knowledge on just about everything from Greek mythology to which is the best Olive oil to buy to take home. I highly recommend this trip. Most Inspirational Moment Seeing the Acropolis on the final day is very special, but just cycling around the amazing coastline and hills of the Peloponnese and taking in the colourful Greek history. Thoughts on Group Leader The leaders were outstanding. Dimitris, Dimitris and Niovi. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they worked very well as a team looking after the group. The trip ran smoothly and without a hitch, the food they provided was excellent and they just took care of everything - I could not fault them in any way. Advice for Potential Travellers Make sure you take swim wear as most afternoons you'll be able to take a swim in the sea after your day in the saddle.

Cycling in Greece Fabulous trip from start to finish. Both guides, Dimitris Steriotis (bike leader), and Dimitris Gotsis (van support), were wonderful. They couldn’t do enough to make our trip a special, fun, and very interesting. The culture, historical locations, food, and new friendships were everything I had hoped for. The trip exceeded my expectations. The entire group were wonderful traveling companions, which only enhanced the experience. Most Inspirational Moment Ascending to the entrance of the Acropolis and getting my first views of the Parthenon. Thoughts on Group Leader Combined professionalism with a friendly attitude. Both guides were terrific! Advice for Potential Travellers Make sure you visit the National Archeological Museum next to hotel. I came in a day early to do this. It's worth it. Also, get in shape for some hill climbs. The ride encounters some fairly challenging hills, but with some moderate conditioning, it's not a bad ride at all. Suggestions Go and have an adventure!

Cycling in Greece This is the Review of Amanda Hubbard. I think this holiday was the 20th trip I have taken with Exodus and most have been extremely good. This trip ranks as excellent, together with recent cycling holidays in Croatia and Romania. Not only did Helios, the Greek God of the Sun, smile on us and give us October days of sun, blue skies and gentle breezes, but we were also blessed with a friendly group of fellow travellers and 2 excellent guides, Yannis and Constantinos (Costos) and their boss, Yiorgos (George) from Head Office in Athens. It was amazing how much activity we crammed into each day and this was not just cycling, but visits to archaeological sites and museums and even a tour of a Nemea Winery. And we also had time to eat the most delicious food, which included picnics prepared by Costos and sumptuous meals at well chosen restaurants. I would recommend this holiday for those, who enjoy not only cycling but also soaking up sun and Greek culture. Most Inspirational Moment The visits to three archaeological sites. Firstly the ancient Theatre at Epidaurus, with such good acoustics that someone at the top of the theatre can hear a coin drop. Secondly Nemea, which was visually very beautiful and where the Hellenic athletic games were held every 2 years. And lastly and surprisingly thanks to our inspirational guide, the Acropolis in Athens, which included the Erechtheion, the Parthenonand the Temple of Athena Nike. All the sites were in well kept grounds and those members of the European Union over 65 pay a reduced rate. Thoughts on Group Leader We had 2 group leaders, Yannis and Constantinos (Cosmos). Yannis was the Group Leader on the bike and for giving us our daily briefings. He was well organised, warning us of all dangers and conscientious and solicitous of our needs. He arranged for return of items left at every hotel - we moved every day and usually left at 9am. I don't know how he managed the puntuality of 16 of us. And his knowledge of Greek Mythology and churches was excellent, but I still remain muddled! And Cosmos, the Gentle Giant, brought up the rear in the van and arranged the transfer of our luggage, gave rides to those who could not bear another hill and produced Greek salads in the middle of nowhere.. Truly both guides socialised with us and looked after us professionly and patiently, as did George from Head Office , who was charming companion on this holiday. Advice for Potential Travellers The usual advice, don't think you are going to lose weight on this trip despite all the walking and cycling uphill. Bring well soled shoes for the trip to the Acropolis - the marble is slippery. And Greece is a hilly country, so the route is more than undulating. Suggestions Just experience this holiday and the ancient wonders of the Peloponnese together with some Greek hills!

An excellent all-round trip This was my first Exodus cycling trip and I was thoroughly impressed from start-to-finish. The trip involved five 50-70km days and a 6th day which involved a morning of rest in Loutraki and an afternoon/evening of sightseeing in Athens. We were on the road from 9am -5/6pm each day; stints of cycling along beautiful coastal or mountain roads were split up with fantastic lunches, visits to cultural sites including the theatre at Epidavros and the citadel at Mycenae, and a trip to a winery. We ate as a group in excellent restaurants each evening, and the hotels were all comfortable. There were two nights in Athens (one at the start, one at the end), four in coastal resorts (good for swimming) and one in Mycenae, where the hotel had a pool. Most Inspirational Moment Cycling the coastal path at Nafplio! Thoughts on Group Leader Yannis and Kwstas did an excellent job all week. Yannis lead the group on his bike and provided plenty of insight into both ancient and modern Greek history. Kwstas followed the group in the van and proved an excellent mechanic and chef, and was v.fun to be around!

Cycling in Greece A wonderful way to see Greece beyond just the beaches and the Acropolis – though you get those as well. Mostly it was small towns , back roads through orange & olive groves, and historical sites in the countryside. Hotels were, Athens aside, beautifully located and near-empty. Going for a swim in the sea to cool down after the day’s cycling was a regular event. It was my first cycling holiday but I needn’t have worried. I’m someone who cycles for an average 2-3 hours per week and the pace was fine with regular stops for water and snacks. Some steep hills but they were fairly short and the bikes had 24 gears so everyone just went up them slowly. One particularly long but not steep climb on the way from Galatas to Epidavros was the worst bit. Most Inspirational Moment The cycle path cut into the rocky cliff along the coast from Nafplio, ending with a paddle and lunch at a shelter (from the sun!) at the far end of a sandy bay Thoughts on Group Leader Yiannis the group leader was great - he was a fount of knowledge about all things Greek both ancient and modern. He also led the group at just the right pace. Kostas was the mechanic, support van driver, and lunch chef. Very friendly, he and Yiannis worked well together. Advice for Potential Travellers Padded shorts or a padded saddle cover!

A wonderful holiday Cycling in Greece provided a wonderful balance between absorbing the architecture and culture of Greece, both ancient and modern, and enjoying the beautiful landscapes and seascapes on two wheels. The organisation of the whole trip was excellent so that everything went very smoothly but without feeling over – organised. The route was hillier than I had first anticipated (although I should have known as the vertical ascent figure was provided for each day’s ride) but with the distances covered and the relaxed pace, it made for extremely pleasant riding. Add to this the warmth of the Greek people, the delicious Greek food and perhaps most importantly the calibre of our tour leaders and the warm companionship of our fellow cyclists and it truly was a wonderful holiday. Most Inspirational Moment Too many to list! Thoughts on Group Leader Both Yannis and Kostas were excellent. Yannis led the group on his bike and he clearly had a passion for all things Greek and an extensive knowledge of the history, politics, geography, geology ------- of Greece. Kostas drove the bus, sorted out any mechanical problems, provided delicious lunches and was a great back-up for Yannis. They were both warm, friendly and encouraging as well as being very efficient in the way they operated. A great team.

Amazing trip I hadn’t been on an Exodus cycling trip before but after this week I would definitely go again! Between the stunning scenery, delicious food and incredibly knowledgeable group leaders it was an amazing week that I would certainly recommend to anyone even if they have been to Greece before. We spent 5 days cycling, visiting some of Greece’s most famous ancient sites and ending up in a small picturesque town on the coast every night other than at the end of Day 5 where we stayed in a lovely hotel up in the hills near Mycenae. We had a great group and all ate together in the evenings where our group leaders usually selected some typical Greek food for us to try which was delicious. All in all a really amazing trip. Most Inspirational Moment Visiting Epidavros and cycling around the coast near Napflio Thoughts on Group Leader Yannis and Constantinos were as good as we could have hoped as group leaders. Yannis had a huge amount of knowledge about all of the ancient sites we visited as well as excellent general knowledge on a number of other topics including politics, philosophy, art and geology so he was excellent company and could answer every question we threw at him. Constantinos drove the van behind us and prepared amazing lunches that were waiting for us every day as well as providing constant snacks and water when we stopped for breaks. He dealt with any bike issues that arose quickly and with great humour and was a real asset to the trip.
