In ancient Greek mythology, it was known as the battlefield where Zeus fought the Gigantes, but today the island is best known for its decadence, style and nightlife. When you arrive, join your leader for a walk through the maze-like Old Town. Browse chic galleries and boutiques, follow flower-lined paths past age-old churches and tiny restaurants. Then, spend the afternoon soaking up the sun and splashing in the water. As the sun sets, maybe join Europe’s party crowd at one of Mykonos’ many bars and clubs, or take a more traditional approach with dinnerin a backstreet restaurant.

Day 6: Santorini

Take another ferry and arrive on the spectacular southern island of Santorini (approximately 2.5hrs hours). Renowned for its amazing natural beauty, Santorini is one of Europe's tourist hotspots, the home of the iconic image of the Greek islands – whitewashed, blue-domed buildings clinging to the cliff face with sparkling water in the background. Discover the hilltop ruins of Ancient Thira and its fascinating Prehistoric Museum, as well as the archaeological site of Akrotiri, a Minoan Bronze Age settlement that gives an insight into how the people here lived before the eruption. Check out the range of restaurants and shops in the island's capital, interchangeably called Thira or Fira. If you have time while you're here, perhaps head to one of Santorini's volcanic beaches, such as Red Beach or the black beaches of Perissa, Vlhada, Perivolos or Agios Georgios. In 1500 BC, a volcanic eruption sank the centre of Santorini, creating one of the planet’s most striking geological formations – the caldera. Today, you’ll take an excursion along the crater’s rim, starting in Thira and passing through small villages on your way to Oia. If time allows, maybe consider the half-daytrip to the island’s volcano and hot springs in the centre of the lagoon, or visit a local winery. Here, vines are pruned into low basket shapes that sit on the volcanic soil, protecting the grapes from strong winds. Tonight, say goodbye to your Greek Islands adventure, maybe with a cocktail in hand, as the sun sets behind the iconic caldera.

  • Santorini - Caldera Rim Hike to Oia

  • Hotel (Number of Nights: 1)

I had an amazing time on this tour and loved exploring the Greek islands! There was plenty to see and do and I didn't feel it was too rushed as there was time to also do your own thing as well as the included activities. Our group leader, Vasiliki, was amazing and she made the tour much more enjoyable as I felt very happy, comfortable and safe. It was nice to explore the Greek islands for the first time this way (also as a solo traveller) and not have to worry or think too much on what to do or how to get around. Amazing memories and friendships made along the way. Would highly recommend!

Athens to Santorini was an experience that everyone should do. It is a-lot of walking so make sure to have the most comfortable shoes as well as limit your packing to bare minimum you will be shopping at all the places you go to, If you love mythological history and culture, this the place you want to experience.

This trip was the perfect Greek Island getaway. A great blend of activities, great food (and drink) and lots of time to chill out, all with the beautiful Greek Islands as your backdrop. I also appreciated our leader's insider knowledge on when best to see sites to avoid the crowds.

Great trip with mix of relaxing and active activities. End of summer is a great time to be in Greece because the weather was beautiful but not super hot. The optional activities are quite a important part of the tour so be ready to spend some extra euros

We were originally going to try to plan this trip on our own. Intrepid was recommended to us and we decided that this would be the best way to travel since we knew that language would be challenged in some areas. Our tour leader Georgia was very helpful explaining and translating for us.
