Choice Highlights

Choose between two carefully selected activities
  • Seville: Join a guided walk through the Santa Cruz quarter, following a street pattern shaped by Seville’s medieval Jewish community until the 14th century. You’ll navigate narrow lanes, enclosed courtyards and small plazas reflect the district’s earlier layout, with surviving architectural elements that point to the neighborhood’s social and cultural history within the wider city.
  • Seville: Take a panoramic drive around Seville to observe the city’s main districts and landmarks, including the riverfront near Torre del Oro, the avenues created for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition and the open spaces around María Luisa Park.

Additional Included Highlights

  • Personal radio headsets give you the freedom to wander during visits to famous highlights, without missing any of your Local Expert's fascinating commentary.
  • Hotel and restaurant tips are included - you'll never have to worry about how much to give, nor search for foreign currency. We also include all taxes and porterage charges at hotels.
  • We carry your bags for you and promptly deliver them to your hotel door.
  • From time to time, your Travel Director will delight you with an Insight Flourish, which is a local specialty representing the destination.
  • Stay connected with friends and family with our complimentary coach and hotel Wi-Fi (where available).
  • If your arrival and/or departure flights are as per the itinerary start and end dates, then transfers are available at scheduled times. If your flights are outside these times, or you have booked additional nights accommodation with Insight Vacations, you may purchase transfers or make your own way from/to the airport.

Authentic Dining

  • Madrid: Join your Travel Director at 18:00 for a Welcome Dinner in a local restaurant and get to know your fellow travelers over a beautiful evening of delicious food and wine.
  • Vila Nova de Gaia: Join your Travel Director for an overview of Porto’s key districts, moving through the medieval Ribeira and the areas shaped by 19th-century trade. See everyday landmarks such as São Bento station, known for its 20,000 hand-painted azulejo tiles depicting scenes from Portuguese history, and the Clérigos Tower, a long-standing reference point in the historic center.
  • Lisbon: In Belém, try pastéis de Belém: crisp layers of pastry encasing custard complete with a dusting of cinnamon. See how the pastries follow a closely guarded recipe, and are still prepared in the same bakery that has produced them since 1837.
  • Torremolinos: Visit a rural mill outside Torremolinos to taste olive oils pressed from olives grown on trees that have stood in this region for generations. Try a few varieties with freshly baked bread and hear how harvest timing, soil and tree age influence the flavor.
  • Alfarnatejo: Share a home-cooked lunch with a local family in Alfarnatejo. Expect simple Andalusian dishes, seasonal ingredients and an easy conversation around the table. It’s a chance to see how meals are prepared and shared in this part of rural Spain, and to hear stories about the town from the people who live there.
  • Valencia: Spend time with a chef in a family-run kitchen to see how Valencian paella is built from its base — the heat of the pan, the saffron stock, the type of rice and the order ingredients go in. The session shows why the dish varies from village to village across the region. Later, dinner offers the chance to taste a paella prepared in this same tradition.
  • Barcelona: In Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, you’ll visit a local bodega set among the vineyards that have supplied cava houses since the 19th century. A light lunch is paired with a tasting of cavas made using the traditional method, showing how bottle fermentation and ageing on the lees influence the wine’s structure and character.
  • Barcelona: Your final evening brings the group together around the table in Barcelona. It’s a chance to share dinner in the Catalan capital, reminisce over the days you’ve traveled and mark the end of your journey across Spain and Portugal with one last meal together.

Insight Choice

  • Seville: Join a guided walk through the Santa Cruz quarter, following a street pattern shaped by Seville’s medieval Jewish community until the 14th century. • Granada: Visit the famous Alhambra Palace and Generalife Gardens. While others wait in line, you'll be exploring accompanied by a Local Expert, keen to share insights into this Moorish landmark.

View the Alcázar, a fortified complex documented from the 12th century, and examine the structure of the Roman aqueduct, whose towering granite arches carried mountain water into the city for almost two thousand years.
  • Salamanca: Explore Salamanca’s central streets and squares with a Local Expert, tracing the city’s rise as one of Europe’s early university centers. • Porto: Visit the wine cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, the center of port ageing and storage since the 18th century. • Alfarnatejo: Visit the beautiful, quiet town and walk the town center.
  • Valencia: Get your bearings in Valencia’s Old City as your Travel Director points out the surviving medieval gateways and the street grid shaped by centuries of expansion. The walk contrasts the tight lanes of El Carmen with the broad lines of the Turia riverbed, now home to the City of Arts and Sciences, a reminder of how the city blends long history with confident modern design.
  • Peñíscola: See Peñíscola’s 14th-century castle rising above the old town, set on a limestone headland that divides the shoreline. From this viewpoint, you can take in how the fortress once controlled movement along the coast and how its walls still define the outline of the medieval quarter below.
  • Barcelona: Drive through Barcelona with a Local Expert who sets out the city’s shape from street level — the long run of Passeig de Gràcia, the sharp grid of the Eixample and the way the skyline shifts as the Sagrada Família comes into view. The route ties together the city’s Modernista detail and its ongoing architectural change.

Very attentive service from the coach driver and tour guide. We had some passengers that needed hospital services and it was all arranged by the tour guide. Very busy itinerary but we saw many things and places we would not have seen on our own. Very good hotels. The bus was great as was the driver and tour guide even though we had a bus problem that needed repairs.

Our tour guide was absolutely wonderful and he made the entire trip what it was. I thought the trip's itinerary was exactly what was needed. The only thing I would suggest is maybe to have some more free time in some places like Torremolinos. Here it was such a beautiful town right on the Mediterranean Sea and we didn't get much time to enjoy it.

We’ve been on three of your trips and you are the best of the best. The itinerary was fabulous. I would only make the arts and sciences buildings in Valencia part of the official tour not just a drive-by. Our tour guide was amazing! Great sense of humor, very caring and knowledgeable. He was very concerned with our safety and making sure we knew where to meet up each time.

On this tour, the Insight team showed how successfully they work together. Having to find and replace a tour director on the spot was not an easy feat and they performed that beautifully. All of the personnel we encountered were wonderful. Except for the little glitch at the end of our tour, not being able to stay in a hotel accommodation at the same standard as all the rest we experienced, (due to the extenuating circumstances of the America's Cup and Cancer Convention both happening in Barcelona) was unfortunate. It still did not spoil a wonderful experience with Insight. This was truly a trip of a lifetime and we feel that we really did see and experience the best of Spain and Portugal. From the comfortable coach, beautiful lodgings and delicious food & wines to the extraordinary experiences & excursions, both included and optional, we were extremely happy and satisfied that we chose this tour. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Insight team scrambled successfully to keep our tour intact. We had 4 different tour directors who travelled long distances and gave up their days off to step in where needed, to keep us on track to our planned itinerary. Our appreciation goes for your diligence and caring to make our trip run smoothly and pleasurably. Thank you for making this one of our most memorable travel experiences.

We loved our fabulous tour director, he gave us his all. The group of 27 of us got along great and provided extra info regarding interesting extra things for us to do on our own when there were no group activities. Every hotel was in the city center except the one in Barcelona. We could walk to restaurants and shopping on our own using his directions and recommendations. Time on the beautiful brand new MB coach was very comfortable and the coach was immaculate. Our driver was so nice, drove carefully and got along great with While riding from place to place always shared so much of his great knowledge, showed videos and played his great playlist he gave to us on the last day. The best tour director anymore could ever have! We experienced excellent customer care throughout our entire experience with Insight Vacations. Wish we had known about this company and the great itineraries offered many trips ago. Perfect itinerary, loved everyday which was packed full of great tours, hotels and just the right amount of group dinners as well as plenty of unplanned time on our own to eat in local restaurants and shop near our hotels.

Everything was fantastic. We loved every single day, and the Optional Tours were well represented too. The local guides in each city were outstanding, and we learned so much. It was great to have "free time" to shop, have a coffee, etc. The hotels were great too. The itinerary was excellent, and gave us a good insight into the history and attractions of each city. There is so much to see and do, and we felt that this tour gave us the best of each location. The "local guides" were fantastic. Our Tour Director was top notch, as was our driver Kudos to both of them! They made each day special for all of us, and we had a fantastic time with our coach group.

We had the best tour guide. Meagan was so professional and knowledgeable. She made our trip fun. What she told us about Spain and Portugal along the way was so interesting. Paulo, the bus driver was excellent as well. I felt very safe with his professional driving. It was one of the best trips I have taken. I have already recommended Insight Tours to others. Insight sent us all the information on what to expect before we left home and what to bring etc. We received many emails at different stages on when to pay and how to prepare for the trip. The itinerary covered much more than we would have been able to do if we did the trip on our own. It was just wonderful to have a competent driver chauffeuring us around (felt very safe) and a wonderful and knowledgeable guide commentating on where we were going and giving hints on the cities we visited.

Professional and enjoyable. But can be taxing as it covers a lot. The tour director is an excellent guide. The optional tours are a must, otherwise there’s nothing much for you. Getting to know the others in your tour is a must to maximize your tour experience. Our coach driver was an excellent driver. So well mannered and giving us a smooth and restful ride.

Our tour guide from Insight, took care of all the little details and hiccups that can happen on a trip. We didn't have any worries at all and just enjoyed our vacation. We felt that the itinerary was perfect for us to see so much of the best of Spain and Portugal! The pace was great, especially important for my 89 year old mom, who didn't want to miss out on anything! We loved our very knowledgable and fun guide and our driver was masterful and careful on the hairpin turns and major roadways. We met so many wonderful folks and haven't stopped talking about the trip in the week+ since we've been back. Thanks, all!!

We originally planned this trip in 2020, but the COVID pandemic necessitated cancellation. We are happy that Insight was willing to honor our deposit four years later when we could again take this trip. This was an outstanding tour and one of the very best we have ever taken (it was our ninth guided tour among three different companies. The individual stops were all very good to great, with plenty of historically important and/or very enjoyable sites of interest. Optional activities were all quite worthwhile. Our Tour Director was the best we have ever had on any trip, and was friendly, highly knowledgeable of the region and, most of all, very proactive in meeting the individual needs of tour travelers. Hotels, as a group, were top-notch and well-located. Restaurants for included dinners were all excellent. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone considering a trip to Spain and Portugal.
