Itinerary

1

Day 1: San José

Arrive at any time, and choose to kick back at the hostel, or head out to explore the city before meeting up with fellow Roamies in the evening. Later, head out in the San Pedro neighborhood with your CEO and new mates in search of food and drink at one of the nearby happening spots. Buckle up, it's on!

2

Day 2: San José/La Fortuna

Set off today bound for La Fortuna with plenty to do along the way. First stop, the active Poás Volcano for epic views and photo opportunities by the crater. Next, head to a community coffee project to sample a cup and to learn about coffee production. Hungry? Sit down for a delicious typical lunch of freshly-caught tilapia from the local fish farm with plantains and the ever-present rice and beans. Then get hands-on with a tortilla-making lesson, full points for the best one! Roll into La Fortuna in the afternoon with time to settle into the hostel and grab a drink at the bar, and in the evening maybe treat yourself to a long soak in one of the many local hot springs. Hey, you deserve it right?

3

Day 3: La Fortuna

Ready for Adventure? There's so much to do in La Fortuna that we've given you an entire free day to choose for yourself, you'll thank us for it later. Maybe it's something active that's your jam like rappelling down a waterfall, whitewater rafting, or paddleboard on Lake Arenal. Otherwise, hanging out in the hostel with friends and a cold beverage is never a bad option either. A combination of these things you say? Sounds perfect!

4

Day 4: La Fortuna/Monteverde

If variety of transport is something you're looking for then you're going to love today. We'll make our way from La Fortuna by bus then boat across Lake Arenal then by bus again to the cloud forest of Monteverde. Scenery galore, keep the camera handy! Once we get to Monteverde don't get too comfortable yet as we'll head into the forest to fly across the canopy on zip lines for an adrenaline rush. Phew!

5

Day 5: Monteverde

Today is all about you, to do as much (or as little) as you want, it's all good! Maybe check out the hanging bridges in the canopy to look for birds and wildlife, go horseback riding, visit a butterfly garden or just kick back at the cozy hostel and relax with a local craft beer in hand.

6

Day 6: Monteverde

Depart at any time, or keep the adventure going to the beaches of the Nicoya Peninsula on the next leg of this journey.

The adventures planned for this trip were 9/10 for me, they were all fun. With the exception of the Coffee Tour which I felt should have been an optional activity as not everyone is interested in this particular one. The hostels varied widely in terms of quality, overall it would be a 6/10 for me

I think it is a great way of travelling. Only gave a lower score as a lot of my family and friends wouldn't consider this sort of trip as an option.

There were no alternative plans for days the weather didn't suit the attraction, didn't have any clear information about the welcome meeting I ended up waiting the lobby all day with all my luggage because they couldn't tell me when the meeting was but I wasn't allowed to check in until our guide met us and one of the nights a random man was in our (supposed) girls only dorm in the first hostel

I had an incredible time on this trip. It was so well thought out and curated. However, the hostels were each worse than the last. Lack of working showers, washrooms and outlets.

This was my very first trip by myself without any friends or family and it was such an amazing first time experience. I am so thankful for all the people I met on this trip, my group was amazing, and it wouldn't have been the same if it weren't for our tour guide Jossi. It may have only been a week but they felt like family and I felt so safe in their company. I wouldn't change a thing about the trip if I could! The itinerary was well thought out, although I found the extra activities quite on the expensive side. However, Jossi was very informative and helpful when it came to suggesting cheaper alternatives. Thank you so much Jossi I will definitely be back!!

Steven H.   -  Traveled, September 2023

Trip was fantastic with a great itinerary and tons of fun optional activities to choose from. The transportation was planned seamlessly, with our CEO giving us fun facts and stories along the way, so time went by quickly. The hostels in La Fortuna and Monteverde were unbelievable (the amount of wildlife in the Monteverde hostels was particularly striking, with agoutis and raccoons running around, and the two friendly resident cats!). The only reason I'm refraining from giving 10 points is that I was not a fan of the first accommodation in San Jose. The hostel is situated next to a train track, with the horn blaring incessantly starting at around 5am. So it was not a peaceful slumber. Additionally, the water stopped working during my stay, meaning that the toilets wouldn't flush, resulting in some pretty disgusting conditions in the bathrooms.
