Itinerary

1
Day 1: Quito / Amazon Jungle

Bienvenidos! Welcome to Ecuador. You’ll be collected from your preferred Quito hotel this morning and taken to the airport, where you’ll fly over the Andes to the river port town of Coca. Here, a lodge representative will meet you and take you to a motorised canoe on the river for a journey to the mighty Napo. The Napo River is the largest river in Ecuadorian Amazon and as you cruise along, you might spot different shore birds, like herons, kingfishers, spoonbills and ospreys. At the lodge, you’ll receive a warm welcome from the local staff, who’ll give you a snack while you’re introduced to the facilities. Later, join your guide for a short hike to the perfect spot for rainforest views, then head back in time for dinner.

Optional Activities:

  • Quito- Legends and Culture Tour (35 USD)

2
Day 2-3: Amazon Jungle Lodge

The next two days are packed with activities. These may vary depending on the time of year and the weather; however, they normally include wildlife spotting, canoe rides and jungle walks, with the opportunity to learn from a local guide about the many resources the Amazon provides – from medicine to construction and food. Depending on what days of the week you’re at the lodge, you may have the opportunity to meet an indigenous family of the Quichuas del Oriente community or to go on long jungle walks. Whatever you do, you’ll be in one of the most magnificent landscapes on Earth, full of wildlife, incredible plant species – from the tiniest flower to the tallest tree – and communities deeply connected to the land.

Included Activities:

  • Daily Amazon jungle activities lead by an English speaking local guide

Optional Activities:

  • Quito- Legends and Culture Tour (35 USD)

3
Day 4: Quito

After breakfast, travel back to Coca airport for your return flight to Quito, where your trip finishes on arrival. You’re scheduled to arrive at Quito Airport at approximately 12 pm, however flight delays are not uncommon in this part of the world. If you have an outbound flight today, we recommend you book this for after 4 pm. If you need help with extra accommodation and transfers, please contact your booking agent ahead of time.

We would definitely recommend this trip, the lodge was a sensible distance from the airport, the accommodation was so much better than we expected and our guide really educated us on the rainforest. An amazing experience!!

This was an awesome experience in the Ecuadorian Amazon. We saw lots of animals and visited a local family. We really enjoyed the early morning and late afternoon walks and canoe rides.

We loved this trip, the Amazon was everything we hoped it would be. The accommodation was lovely, our guide Ruben was really friendly and knowledgeable and the food was excellent. It was a joy to see all the wildlife that we did and meet local people.

I didn't see as much wildlife as I'd hoped for. So I'll have to go back to the amazon one day. The grounds at yarina lodge were beautiful and the cooks were really good. But I wonder if I would have seen more at a different eco lodge that was more up the river. Ours was about 50 min up the river from the city and all other lodges were like 3 hrs up the river. We were definitely in the jungle right around us but it didn't feel deep enough in and we didn't venture far to try to see things. When I'd ask about some certain wildlife they were more up the river. Our guide didn't seem too enthusiastic to try to find specific things, even though he knew a lot and was good at spotting things. There was a small language barrier. Loved the little agouti animal that ran around the lodge grounds.

I have just taken a wonderful one month holiday to Galapagos Islands, the amazingly relaxing Amazon Jungle, Peru with the beautiful Machu Picchiu, Titicaca lake and so much more, Argentina and Brazil where we visited other wonders of the world like Iguazu falls and Christ the Redeemer. I recommend to anyone to take this holiday if you ever dreamt about visiting all these places. This holiday is a dream even for the people living in South America whom we met. We have learnt a lot about the traditions and way of life in South America, types of food and drinks. We met families who prepared food or drinks for us. In Lake Titicaca we went on a floating island where a few families live and we have learnt how they have to build a new island to live on every three month, we ate local food and we have seen people wearing special clothes according to their importance in the community, on another island made of stone in Titicaca. I took my hiking boots for Amazon jungle but I really needed them on Galapagos Islands where you do have to have a reasonable level of fitness to be able to hike and see the rare animals like the boobies and many other birds and reptiles. In Amazon jungle they provide rubber boots. On my day off in Cusco I took an extra excursion to the Rainbow mountin at 5100 metres latitude which made my experience of South America complete.
