Day 1-Trip starts in Bangkok

Arrive in Bangkok, the bustling capital of Thailand famous for its street vendors serving up tasty Thai food, bright lights, tuk tuks and khlong boats plying the network of canals and waterways. For those arriving on time your tour leader plans to meet you in the hotel reception at 6pm for the welcome meeting and for those that wish, there is the chance to go out for dinner. If you would like to receive a complimentary airport transfer today, you'll need to arrive into Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), which is one hour from our hotel. Should you miss the welcome meeting, your tour leader will inform you of any essential information as soon as you catch up. If your flight arrives earlier in the day, perhaps you might choose to visit the Rattanakosin Exhibition Hall. This interactive museum is regarded as one of the best in Thailand and helps to bring Bangkok's history and culture to life.

Day 2-City tour by long tail boat and free afternoon to explore the Grand Palace and Temples

This morning, we head to Tha Tien Pier where we enjoy a one-hour cruise in traditional long-tail boats along the klongs (canals). This is the ideal way to explore Bangkok's network of meandering waterways that continue to serve as an important thoroughfare in the city. Along our route, we watch local life taking place around us. The rest of the day is yours to explore Bangkok at your own pace. You might opt for a sightseeing tour of the Grand Palace and the sprawling Wat Pho complex, home to the iconic 46-metre long Reclining Buddha, a golden- statue representing Buddha's peaceful transition into Nirvana. Alternatively, you could embark on a cycling tour, weaving through the city's hidden backstreets to discover the authentic local life and lesser-known gems of Bangkok.

Day 3-Explore the Meaklong Train Market and afternoon mangrove boat trip in Khlong Noi

Set off this morning for the Meaklong train market, a two-hour drive from Bangkok. Nestled along active train tracks, this vibrant market brims with fresh produce, seafood, and an array of goods. The most captivating moment comes as vendors deftly pull back their stalls to make way for an approaching train. We then continue driving to Khlong Noi where our hosts take us on a short boat ride to their guesthouse. After familiarising ourselves with the charming settings and the opportunity to freshen up in our rooms, we jump back on the boat later this afternoon to explore the surrounding mangroves and fish farms to learn about the local way of life. If you're up for an adventure, you can try planting mangroves yourself - just if you don't mind getting a bit muddy! The area is also known for the 'mangrove monkeys' (crab-eating macaques) so keep your eyes wide open. We return in the late afternoon to relax and savour the local cuisine at the family's restaurant.

Day 4-Morning walk to Laem Sala Beach and Phraya Nakhon Caves

This morning, say goodbye to our hosts and drive two hours south to Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park. Upon arrival, we disembark our bus onto a mangrove boardwalk where we walk along a 1km raised platform through the fragile ecosystem in search of mud crabs and giant monitor lizards. These forests are unique and offer a wonderful experience with their sprawling roots and shady canopy. Depending on the weather, we take a boat to Laem Sala Beach, a spectacular stretch of coastline. Later, we'll make our way to the renowned Phraya Nakhon Cave, a hidden treasure celebrated for its stunning stalactites and the royal pavilion that stands majestically beneath an open ceiling, illuminated by natural sunlight. The trail to the cave is rocky and steep, with uneven stone steps. It's a short but strenuous uphill hike through tropical forested hills, with some shaded areas. The hike takes about 30-45 minutes, depending on your pace with an elevation of 130 metres. For those who prefer not to hike, there's the option to relax and explore the scenic Laem Sala Beach instead. From there, it is only a short drive to the Dolphin Bay Resort, our accommodation for the night.

The destinations were great, beaches were wonderful, the animals were amazing, the accommodation basic but fun, food was good, Aug was a good time to visit (no insects!) but there was too much driving and not enough opportunities to do any exercise.

Excellent tour with numerous opportunities to see fantastic wildlife, it was like being part of a David Attenborough documentary. Safari in Kruger and Swaziland were stand out highlights. Would have enjoyed more access to traditional culinary delights. It felt like we did an excessive amount of travelling during the first few days as we double back on ourselves - I understand that this may have been due to excursion booking limitations. Our tour guide Grant was superb, incredibly knowledgeable about wildlife and local history and very welcoming. His calm manner was reassuring and enabled us to fully relax and get the most out of this holiday of a lifetime

We have been on many Explore trips, both as a couple and with our daughter. They are the type of holiday we enjoy most. You get a real sense of seeing behind the face of the country you're in. The local guides ensure you get as much as possible into the two weeks you're away. They're not cheap holidays, but we really feel it's money well spent to get such fabulous experiences

A wonderful holiday with a great group and leader. Kids really enjoyed the game drives (especially the ones on foot) and the Beehive huts.

Trip of a lifetime. We did so much and saw so many animals that it really exceeded our expectations. We also appreciated the exposure to the local culture and the diversity of experiences throughout the trip. Andrew, our guide was always making sure that we were having a good time. His patience answering all our questions was amazing! Always in a good mood and ready to make our trip unforgettable. He's been our best Explore guide so far. Tshukudu reserve was our favourite place. Richard was amazing as a guide and host. And the St Lucia boat ride to watch the whales was totally brilliant. Skigh was our captain, extremely careful and always watching that we were safe. He was very knowledgeable and keen to share all the info. Thank you for a great trip!!

What an AMAZING trip! LOVED every minute of it....we had the best gude ever in Andrew and would not hesitate to do another trip with him. The best part was seeing the lions feeding off the female giraffe they had brought down and all the vultures sitting in the trees waiting for their turn. My 6 year old has come away from the trip wanting to be a safari ranger and he tried snorkelling for the first time. All in all a fantastic trip was had by the 3 of us! The only thing I would change would be the accomodation at Kruger park as it was shared bathroom facilties and the shower doors did not have locks, which meant I was not comfortable for my son and daughter to gop have a shower on their own. The block was also not the cleanest...the bedrooms howerver were clean and comfy.

Amazing trip! We saw all of the big 5!!! We saw a snake in Tshukudu which the guide sorted. We had fabulous food cooked for us and it was a real adventure. We stalked a rhino and got up close to cheetah. In Kruger we saw a hyena right by the path with her cubs. The lions had just killed a giraffe so we're lying around. A leopard crossed our path as it was stalking prey. We were so lucky seeing so many animals. The hippo/ croc boat trot was fantastic we saw so many!!! We loved swimming in the Indian Ocean, the kids bought body boards locally and had amazing fun. We didn't make Kosi bay due to riots but enjoyed every moment of St Lucia. Well done to Werner for being so great with the kids, his knowledge was amazing and we had a fabulous adventure!
