Trip For You
This trip is graded Activity Level 2 (Easy & Moderate). For more information on our trip gradings please visit our Activity Level Guidelines page. If you have any queries about the difficulty of the trip please do not hesitate to contact us. It involves travel by private bus and boat and includes guided walks and sightseeing on foot. The walking and pace are not strenuous, but you need to be in good health and fitness. This trip also includes a linear hike (2.5mi/4km) on the Path of the Gods, a scenic coastal route considered one of the best in the world for its jaw-dropping views. This walk is of moderate difficulty and a reasonable level of fitness and agility is required, although the pace is leisurely. Please be aware that the path can be rocky and uneven at times, so wearing suitable walking footwear is essential. While some sections of the path may be challenging for those with vertigo, the stunning views are worth it, and an expert local guide will be there to offer support and ensure a safe, enjoyable experience. If you have any concerns about your fitness levels, please talk to your tour leader before joining this activity. Please note, there is high demand for our Amalfi tours, so it’s likely there will be more than one Exodus group at Due Torri. The hotel is also occasionally open to non-Exodus guests. Nevertheless, our experienced team of leaders is used to this and will tailor itineraries to ensure you enjoy each activity with your own small group. Any additional groups are either on a different tour or follow an alternative itinerary. It is also worth noting that during the high season, usually May to September, popular towns along the Amalfi Coast such as Positano, Amalfi itself and the island of Capri, can also be quite busy. Finally, please be aware that the Amalfi Coast can be warm, possibly reaching 35C (95F) between July and September, so wearing a hat and keeping hydrated is highly recommended.
Group Description
Our leader will accompany the group on all scheduled activities, but due to Italian legislation is not allowed to guide groups around Herculaneum and Pompeii. The leader does not always accompany the group on activities undertaken on the free day but will be available to provide all the necessary information before you set off.
Eating Drinking
All breakfasts, one lunch and six dinners are included. Breakfast is continental style with a choice of cereals, bread, eggs, ham, cheese, fruits, pastries, yoghurt, orange juice and milk, plus an array of teas/coffee. All evening meals are taken in the hotel, where the standard is excellent and the chef takes great pride in showcasing the best of regional foods, including dishes such as scialatielli all’amalfitana (homemade pasta with seafood) and branzino all’acqua pazza (sea bass in crazy water). Dinners usually consist of four courses, commencing with antipasti, followed by soup and/or pasta, a main meat dish with salad or vegetables, and dessert. On certain evenings, there is the opportunity to learn how to make Neapolitan pizza. Please note, drinks are not included with meals but available to purchase. Several dietary restrictions, including vegetarian, vegan, lactose-free and gluten-free, are also well catered for. Please advise us of any dietary requirement on booking.
Transportation
Transfers to and from the airport will be in a private vehicle (normally a mini-coach). On other days, private minibus and boats will be used.

Weather Information
Southern Italy, like much of the Mediterranean, has a hot, dry climate in summer. Temperatures may reach 35C (95F) between July and September. There are cooler, but slightly damper, spring and autumn periods; at coastal levels, winters are mild and damp. Rainfall is expected in the winter months with an average of one day in three affected. Unseasonable cold spells are possible at any time of year. During these times you will need warm clothes, especially in Bomerano where evening temperatures can be lower than expected. It is important to be equipped for cooler weather in early spring, late autumn and winter. During winter departures (November to February) the following changes are made to the itinerary; A private transfer will be used instead of a boat from Positano to AmalfiIf Capri is not reachable due to rough sea conditions, the group will visit Sorrento or Naples The above changes can apply to any departure if it is affected by adverse weather conditions.
Spending Money
For lunches, you should budget between €15‐€25 depending on whether you choose a set menu in a cafe or restaurant. Approximately €30-40 should be enough for an evening meal including drinks. Local taxes: many Italian cities have recently introduced a tourist tax for non‐residents. The local administration is in charge of the tax, which is collected by the accommodation provider at check‐in or check‐out. For this trip, please allow approximately €10, depending on the season, for the week. Children and people aged 75 or over are exempt from this tax. Optional extra fees:  — Vesuvius ticket €13 and optional guide €12 — Naples Archeological Museum €22 — Capri cable car, approximately €12 per person
Tipping
Our local staff are paid well and fairly for their work. Most of our clients wish to give a tip to their guides in appreciation of their help and friendliness. This, of course, is in no way compulsory and depends on the service received. For this trip, we recommend budgeting approximately €15-€20 per person for the leader. Most local guides rely on tips as part of their wages, so we recommend a minimum of €10 per group for optional guides at Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii. Private bus drivers also expect a small tip (€1-€2 each). Usually, a tip on behalf of the group is left for local hotel staff.

Accommodation

Hotel Due Torri, a family-run three-star albergo in Bomerano
We spend seven nights at Hotel Due Torri, a mid-sized hotel run by the welcoming Acampora family, who turn out authentic Campanian dishes in the restaurant and put on a show with their fun pizza-making demonstrations. It sits in Bomerano, a peaceful village that forms part of the Agerola municipality, up in the hills and away from the often-bustling Amalfi Coast. Being higher up, the hotel benefits from cooler nights, although beaches are not too far away. There is a small heated outdoor pool (usually open from mid-April to mid-October) and energy is generated by a solar panel system. The 41 rooms vary in style and size and are spread across two main buildings and two cosy apartments a short walk from the main hotel. A limited number of upgraded rooms, which include a hot tub, power shower and fridge, are also available for a supplement payable before departure. Please ask your sales representative for further information. Itinerary

1
Day 1: Start Bomerano (Agerola)

This trip starts in Bomerano – a tiny village on the west side of the Agerola Valley, 1hr 20m south of Naples. Our hosts for the week are Giovanni and Nicola Acampora, the charming owners of Hotel Due Torri. Surrounded by vineyards and orchards, their family-run property has a pool and fabulous views of the Lattari mountains; an ideal spot to escape the crowds. We’ll rendezvous at the hotel in time for dinner and a welcome briefing. Please note: It is possible the order of the itinerary will be changed to ensure the best possible conditions for each activity during the trip. All listed activities and services will be included. Your leader will inform you of any changes locally after assessing conditions. If you are willing to tailor your journey adding extra nights,  speak with your Sales Consultant for detailed information on available pre-tour, post-tour and extension packages.

2
Day 2: Sightseeing in Amalfi and picture-perfect Positano

Leaving the Agerola plain, we descend by private bus to Amalfi, the oldest maritime republic in Italy. Quintessentially Mediterranean, Amalfi's townscape is a cluster of little white houses and buildings, narrow alleyways and shady porticoes, dominated by the large cathedral with its brightly coloured tiles typical of the region. We spend the morning sightseeing, relaxing in one of the sun-filled piazzas, or visiting the interesting paper museum (optional). Later, we continue by fast boat (approximately 20 minutes) to Positano. En route, we enjoy the enchanting views of the sheer cliffs and rugged shoreline dotted with small beaches that have drawn people to this stunning coast for centuries. There is no better way of approaching Positano for the first time than from the sea, as the contrast of this near-vertical town of colourful buildings against the verdant cliffs and blue waters will leave you mesmerised. We have a few hours to explore this chic, picture-perfect village on foot before we return to our hotel in the late afternoon by boat and private bus. During winter departures (November to February) the following changes are made to the itinerary; A private transfer will be used instead of a boat from Positano to Amalfi

3
Day 3: Visit the legendary archaeological sites of Herculaneum and Pompeii

It’s a busy day today as we travel to the Bay of Naples by private bus (approximately one hour), where we join local guides to tour two of the most famous archaeological sites in the world, Herculaneum and Pompeii. Both towns and their people got buried under the ash and magma of Mount Vesuvius in the 79 CE eruption, but they were only rediscovered through excavations in the 18th century. The eruption affected the sites in different ways: while Pompeii is home to a more extensive collection of Roman homes, stores and bathhouses (plus the iconic plaster bodies), the ruins, frescos and recently discovered 300 skeletons along the seashore at Herculaneum are much better preserved. We return to the hotel late afternoon (approximately one hour) to enjoy a delicious dinner and cooking demonstration.

4
Day 4: Walk part of the divine Path of the Gods

Today we walk a section of one of the finest trails in the world. From our doorstep, it's a short stroll through the quiet village of Bomerano. Here we’ll drop into a local cheesemaker to see how the delicious local mozzarella is made. And, yes, we’ll taste some. We then join the Path of the Gods, which runs all the way to Positano. Luckily, having already visited Positano earlier this week, we can skip the hard part and the 1,700 steps downtown, and take a linear walk of 4km instead, offering some equally fantastic coastal views along the way. Please be aware that some parts of the trail are rocky and there are frequent ups and downs, which can be a little hard on the knees. With breaks for water and snacks, this short hike is of Level 2/3 (Moderate) difficulty but doable for all those in good fitness, and the challenge will no doubt be repaid by the magnificent views. A rewarding regional lunch awaits you back at the hotel.

5
Day 5: Free day to relax, visit Sorrento or Naples

How will you spend a free day on the Amalfi Coast? We recommend visiting Sorrento for a seafood lunch and sweeping views over the Bay of Naples. Pedestrian lanes, little boutiques, limoncello shops, and restaurants make it an enjoyable place to spend a day at leisure. Alternatively head to Naples, the capital of the Campania region. A trip up the slopes of Mount Vesuvius to peer into the crater, followed by a wine tasting at a renowned local winery right below the majestic volcano may also be possible. Please note that whilst there is no need to book the excursions to Sorrento and Naples prior to departure (your leader will help arrange them locally), securing tickets for the Vesuvius cannot be guaranteed as these may sell out in advance, especially in the high season. The most common option is to wait until you are on tour as your leader will be able to assist you with booking and private transfer arrangements. Should other travellers in your group be willing to join the excursion, a shared and more convenient transfer will be organised for you.  Alternatively, you may opt to pre-book entrance tickets online independently. However, be aware that advanced online purchase means being assigned a specific time slot to visit the volcano and that you will have to arrange your own private transportation, which can be costly. Furthermore, weather conditions or other factors may impact the standard order of the itinerary and that any unused tickets as a result of schedule changes are not refundable. Please note, all tours for your free day are subject to availability and prices are dependent on the number of people joining.

6
Day 6: Boat to Capri; free afternoon to explore the island

We leave the hotel after breakfast and take the bus down to Amalfi and board the boat to Capri. The journey along the Amalfi Coast is spectacular with small coves and bays of azure water overlooked by towering cliffs. The time spent on Capri is unguided and you are free to explore independently. Your tour leader might recommend avoiding the hassle of public transport on the island and make the most of your time by arranging an excursion by private bus and cable car (optional, payable locally). A beautiful walk will take you up to Capri town and along a network of small pedestrianised streets to visit the remains of Villa Jovis, the former home of the fearsome Roman emperor Tiberius. A walk around the spectacular coastline is recommended and allows you to see a natural rock arch and the Faraglioni – rock stacks that stick vertically out of the sea. There is also time to peruse the boutique shops before returning by boat and bus to our hotel.

7
Day 7: Sightseeing in elegant Ravello; visit Villa Cimbrone

Today we visit the romantic hilltop town of Ravello for some of the best views of the Amalfi coastline. Ravello also has a grand cathedral but Villa Cimbrone (visit included) and Villa Rufolo (optional) are the real gems of the town. Set amid elegant gardens, the villa balconies stand at the edge of the cliffs offering stunning views described by French author André Gide as 'closer to the sky than the seashore'. There is time to wander, enjoy a coffee and soak up the atmosphere before we return to the cooler climes of Bomerano in the afternoon. The remainder of the day is free for relaxation, before a farewell dinner in the evening.

8
Day 8: End Bomerano (Agerola)

We have explored one of the most beautiful stretches of coast in the world. Now it’s time to make our way home, but not before one last breakfast at Hotel Due Torri, which may feel like a second home by now. If your flight leaves later this evening, you’re welcome to make use of the hotel facilities after check-out and enjoy a lunch (optional, payable locally) here. Alternatively, speak to your leader for recommendations on what to do in the village.

Amalfi highlights Really well organised and great insights due to knowledge of our excellent group leader Most Inspirational Moment Several.. first glimpse of Amalfi coastline driving down to Amalfi on first day. Ravello and walking round gardens of Villa . Trip to Capri. Walking Path of the Gods. Trip to Pompeii / Herculaneum .. all amazing!! Thoughts on Group Leader Veriano our group leader was brilliant. So much knowledge / fun and guided us sensitively with humour without making us feel we were on a school trip ! Advice for Potential Travellers Check you are happy with a group approach especially at the hotel .. dining together every night .. not high quality of food or drinks Suggestions Felt the hotel was overcrowded due to number of tExodus tours .. did not like communal institutional type dining and felt sheer numbers compromised food/ drinks and service . Also for first time in life felt age discrimination .. I am a very fit energetic 60 + person and felt we had all been lumped into the elder group .. better to mix up more .

Highlights of the Amalfi Coast Nice hotel with very friendly staff. About an hour from anywhere! Weather poor so visibility very limited at times. Could not visit, or even see, Capri or take the planned boat trip. Most Inspirational Moment Visits to Herculaneum and Pompeii. Fortunately it did not rain during the visits. Thoughts on Group Leader Excellent. Despite the poor weather he made alternative arrangements. He was very knowledgeable about the area and has a good senses of humour, which countered some of the disappointment caused by the weather. Advice for Potential Travellers Take a brolly. Suggestions Despite the weather it was a very enjoyable holiday. Everyone in the group was friendly, the group leader gave us every possible help and the hotel was comfortable and the food good.

Picture Perfect The Amalfi coastline is everything the tour books promise. The clear blue sea water, beautiful scenery with numerous villages clinging to the cliffs. There’s a photograph at every turn. Be prepared for it to be busy. I don’t think I have been anywhere with just so many tourists! I went in October and all the main attractions/sights were still over-run with visitors. Hotel due Torri is in a quieter village and easy to reach from Amalfi by bus. The hotel is clean and tidy. The staff helpful and polite. The pizza is great! The hotel was full – 3 or 4 Exodus groups so the dining room was noisy. The food was OK. For me just too much carbohydrate and not enough fresh vegetables and fruit. With hindsight, I should have excused myself from the evening meal and eaten in one of the many good restaurants in the village. Most Inspirational Moment Ravello is the highlight of this tour. First it is the quietest place on the programme. It is elegant and sophisticated; an absolute delight. Thoughts on Group Leader The group leader was a facilitator rather than a leader. Advice for Potential Travellers The Amalfi Coast should be on everyone's Bucket List. The pace of the holiday is leisurely however the places you visit (with the exception of Ravello) are manic. If you are looking forward to good Italian food and wine I'd suggest you eat out.

John Williams   -  Traveled, June 2023

Good Trip all round First trip with Exodus Travel. All went pretty much as we expected anbd we had an overall enjoyable experience. Hotel due Torri – set up above Amalfi means you need to do a 40 minute trip down to Amalfi – to get to the various places visited by boat ( Minori – Positano – Capri ) Visits to Ravello, Pompeii, Herculaneum are all done by bus ( or minibus ). On our free day we grouped together and got a minibus to Sorrento – 8 people around 300 euros The Hotel was OK . All staff were pleasant and friendly Room, had Air con , a Safe, En Suite – and we had a nice Balcony. We would never normally opt for 3* but were pleasantly surprised overall. Breakfast was reasonable – selection of hot / cold / fruit yoghurt etc and a coffee machine Evening Meals – taken in a large room – split into one long table for each trip group. 3 or 4 groups most evenings No atmosphere in the dining room – all felt very impersonal but I guess it served its purpose. Long tables – 3 courses most evenings – albeit a bit repetitive ( lots of pasta ) The Pizza evening was an exception – with as much freshly made pizza as you could eat. Wine is around 3 euros per glass for house red – which we liked. Carafe around 6 Euros from memory. Pizza making and pasta making demos were enjoyed by most people. Drinks area outside by the pool – where the groups met each evening before dinner – Cocktails circa 7 euros each but were OK Most Inspirational Moment Capri was excellent - don't miss the Chairlift to Anacapri - amazing views from the top of the Island. Thoughts on Group Leader Overall Eduardo was a very knowledgeable Guide with a great - if dry - sense of humour. We both liked him and shared a lot of laughs with him. Not all in our group would agree - a few issues with people wanting to change plans left a bit of an atmosphere. One of our group left without telling him - part way around the Path of the Gods - which was not fair to Eduardo who has to account for all in the group - so we understood why he was unhappy. Advice for Potential Travellers This is as described a good way to see "The Highlights " of the Amalfi coast without excessive walking required. Plenty of time to walk around each of the places visited. We spoke to others who did the more strenuous walking trip - some found it too difficult and wished they had been on our trip - as they didnt get to see Capri and have as much free time to enjoy the places visited due to the extra walking involved. Suggestions Booked a private transfer both ways with Exodus ( 136 euros each way ) as we couldn't arrive on the same plane as the main tour group - ended up getting into a shared minibus both ways anyway - and Exodus refunded our Private Transfer fees in full - so no issues there Overall a good trip - pretty much what we expected - we saw a lot of lovely places - and were guided around the towns expertly by Eduardo Great short trip if you want to see the highlights that this part of Italy has to offer

Delights of Southern Italy A great short but intense week in Southern Italy! The Amalfi coastline is great, beautiful scenery and hot weather. Nice Tour group! Good local Leader. Most Inspirational Moment The visits to Pompeii &Herculaneum. Thoughts on Group Leader Veriano was excellent - even though he did not sing any Italian arias!! Advice for Potential Travellers Be prepared for a lot of people on “ Walk Of the Gods.” Suggestions No.

Frances Rawson   -  Traveled, April 2024

Highlights tour is a light touch of all things Amalfi - not the adventure holiday I was hoping for Unfortunately, I was unable to join the Walking the Amalfi Coast group as it was fully booked, so I chose Highlights of Amalfi Coast instead because it seemed similar and included the visit to Pompeii. In hindsight, for me and a few others who had chosen the tour for the same reason, it wasn’t the right choice. I was looking for a more physically demanding adventure holiday and the Highlights tour is not that. It’s a gentle pace tour with only a few slightly physical moments, with late starts, early finishes, transport everywhere by bus, leisurely wandering, and shopping time. POSITIVES: Wonderful views, excellent food, lovely fellow travelers on the tour, well-organized each day. The tour offers a light touch of all things Amalfi Coast so you get to see the highlights in a comfortable manner. NEGATIVES: 1. The hotel is located in the hills, so long hours were spent each day on the bus/coach, traveling at a snail’s pace on clogged, windy roads. 2. Only two hours spent in Pompeii – too short. The main reason I booked the tour was for Pompeii and Herculaneum and, to be escorted out of Pompeii after only two hours, having only seen a small segment while other tourists roamed freely, was deeply disappointing. Pompeii is a far larger site than Herculaneum and it requires a longer visit. 3. The Path of the Gods’ walk was highly anticipated and the vistas were stunning; however, we got turned around only part way along and it was too short. SUMMARY: A well-organized and leisurely tour with everything arranged and transport provided. However, for active, seasoned travelers seeking a physical adventure, this tour may not be satisfying enough. Most Inspirational Moment For me, the day trip to Herculaneum and Pompeii was the highlight, however, the time spent at Pompeii was not nearly long enough. The day trip to Ravello was also a highlight - it's a lovely trip and a pretty place to visit. I just wish that the weather had been warmer. Travel in September / October if you are looking for some italian summer sun. Thoughts on Group Leader Severio, our charming Sicilian group leader, was helpful and interested in making sure our group had a safe and enjoyable trip. Advice for Potential Travellers I recommend you pay the extra supplement to upgrade your room - do it when making your tour booking as it may be too late to change after you've arrived at the hotel. The south-facing rooms with balconies are sunny and light and they are the premium rooms. April is COLD on the Amalfi Coast so be sure to wear a warm jacket if you're traveling at this time. If there is sun there will likely be cold winds, so you won't be laying on the beach and sunning yourself on this trip. No need for walking boots, poles, or backpacks (other than a small daypack) - this tour is not that kind of adventure. You will be asked for extra money to pay for tips and lunches. Suggestions The bus travel each day - to Positano/Amalfi, and to Ravello, and to Amalfi again for the ferry to/from Capri - was my least favourite part of the trip. I was discouraged from returning to Pompeii on my free day as it was deemed 'too difficult' by the tour guide (it was achievable but no information was provided to help me). Instead, I chose a day trip to Naples and our small group spent a wonderfully long day exploring the city (5 euros & just over one hour each way, bus stop close to the hotel). However, I had to search for information about the Naples bus service myself; no information was provided after our small group declined an expensive quote for a private coach to Naples from our tour guide. It would be useful for the hotel to have a Naples bus timetable including the location of the bus stop in Naples for the return trip (or for our group leader to arrange this). Same for getting to/from Pompeii (this trip involves both bus & train but it's entirely possible). The information is publicly available and the bus stop is right by the hotel.

Great experience - highly recommended We had a great time on this trip. A wonderful collection of fellow travelers. The guide (Severio) and host hotel team were all very welcoming, friendly and really made the experience wonderful. The selection of drivers navigating the coast road were amazing – such pro’s . Thank you to Eduardo for arranging transfers for our extended stay.- really excellent service. Most Inspirational Moment We enjoyed the chair lift to the top of Capri and the beautiful gardens of Ravello. Most inspirational is a tough one to say - from Pompeii/Herculeum to the beauty and majestic views of the Amalfi coastline and the fun/enjoyment of relaxing and talking with fellow travelers each with their own stories. Thoughts on Group Leader Saverio was friendly, fun and very welcoming. He did everything he could to accommodate the needs of a diverse group of travelers. I would highly recommend him as a guide. Advice for Potential Travellers As the trip notes advised there is a good amount of walking and stairs. Although all activity was indeed moderate you certainly need a high level of mobility to explore and enjoy the Amalfi Coast towns.

Slightly disappointing trip - ? Highs and lows to this trip for me. Lovely family-run hotel serving great food but just be aware of its location which means considerable time every day travelling to/from itinerary points. Pompeii and Herculaneum were the definite highlights for me and this was backed-up by a trip to the archaeological museum in Napoli on the free day which some of us accessed by public transport. NB – Napoli is not an easy city to navigate and we relied heavily on Google maps especially to find the bus stop for the return journey. Although visiting in April the coastal towns were already very busy and apart from shops/cafes and churches etc there is not an awful lot to see. Enjoyed the boat trip over to Capri and a trip up on the chairlift for the amazing views (little health and safety in evidence!). Also enjoyed the short walk on The Path Of The Gods. I didn’t choose the walking trip due to underlying knee problems but we still had to negotiate hundreds of steps during the week and this could be a problem for some. Most Inspirational Moment Pompeii, Herculaneum and Napoli museum. The latter really made the sites "come alive" and I was amazed at just how many artifacts were recovered. Thoughts on Group Leader Fine and "mellowed" as the week went by. Sometimes didn't appear to be very positive when asked about alternative things to do. Spent a lot of time pointing out 5* hotels and celebrity houses etc which is of no interest to me. Advice for Potential Travellers Just be aware of amount of steps to be negotiated and time spent travelling each day. Amalfi and Napoli are accessible by public transport from just outside the hotel. Great restaurant near the hotel for days when dinner is not included - turn right outside hotel, walk a few metres to the road junction and turn back left up the main road. Restaurant a few minutes walk on left. Lovely food at good prices. Suggestions Quite often found myself at a loose end as I don't enjoy shopping so carried a book most days and found somewhere to sit and read. However, I think I was in the minority as most seemed to enjoy town visits more than me.

A true Italian experience! This trip was an outstanding experience as well as a great value. For me it was the perfect combination of engaging conversation and camaraderie, fascinating destinations, and relaxation. We did and saw a lot, but had time to explore on our own as well as just relax. The variety of the itinerary was also a plus – visiting charming towns and historic sites, enjoying nature, and experiencing “la dolce vita”. The family-run hotel Due Torri was perfect for this kind of trip. Clean, comfortable, and most of all friendly. They made us welcome as though we were in their home, and shared laughs and kindness. We met their little dog and also “nonna” (grandma) who had an apartment there. The food was absolutely excellent, completely five-star. The leisurely four-course dinners were too large for most of us, but varied and always most delicious. We felt bad not cleaning every plate – bring an appetite! We particularly enjoyed being in the kitchen for two nights, helping make pizza and watching the chef prepare our dinner. The hospitality was outstanding. Breakfast was ample, and there’s a nice bar for casual drinks as well before or after dinner. Excellent house wine for only 3 Euro/glass! Most Inspirational Moment My late husband was into geology and was crazy about volcanos. I made a pilgrimage to Mt. Vesuvius in his memory, and was able to leave a tiny bit of him there. And as he would have done, brought a few small rocks back home to tie us together. It was a completely clear day with visibility for miles and an incredible view over Naples. The other inspiring moment was hiking the Path of the Gods. Indescribably beautiful scenery and solitude. I had a cold and so conquering some of the stairs coming back up were tough, but I was grateful to be there and have done it. Thoughts on Group Leader Eduardo Palermo absolutely made the trip, and we adored him. He had lived in the area for many years, and was passionate and proud to share his community with us. He was highly knowledgeable of history and local matters, and brought every location to life for us. He was accommodating to special requests, and infinitely patient and gracious with a “challenging” guest among our group – far more so than I would have been! Eduardo was always around or accessible when we needed something, and seemed totally committed to our having a good time every day. Everywhere we went people seemed to know Eduardo, and his local connections were very helpful. He arranged for us to hire an outstanding guide he knew for the day in Herculaneum and Pompeii, at a reasonable price. We had many laughs together and learned so much from him. Do not lose Eduardo! Advice for Potential Travellers (1) Bring a water bottle for the day trips – I put hot tea in mine since it was January. (2) Bring a big appetite! But you’ll walk it all off during the day – didn’t gain any weight! (3) Bring good walking shoes and extra sturdy ones for the Path of the Gods. (4) Being in the small town of Bomerano is lovely and gives you a sense of “real life” in the Amalfi Coast, not just the glittery famous tourist towns nearby. Yet you’ll visit and have time to explore those places before retreating to your “family” experience at Due Torri. (5) For a contrast, consider a day or two before or after the tour on your own in bustling Naples. The archaeological museum there is a must-visit if you’re into history. Suggestions This was my first trip with Exodus but won’t be my last. Two of my fellow group travelers were also return Exodus customers, and spoke highly of their experiences with them. Their small group concept works very well. I highly recommend this tour.

Spectacular Overall, one of the best Exodus holidays we have been on. The good weather (in October), of course, helped, as it might not have been so pleasurable had it rained all the time! A good itinerary, covering all the key areas we wanted to visit, and a superb, friendly, family run hotel with a great atmosphere. Most Inspirational Moment Visiting Herculaneum and Pompeii, which was the main reason for our choice of holiday. Thoughts on Group Leader Eduardo was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. Always there when you needed him. Conscientious, helpful, friendly and with a twinkle in his eye! Cannot praise him highly enough! Thank you, Eduardo! Advice for Potential Travellers If you are interested in the archaeological sites, do follow up on the free day with a visit to the Archaeological Museum in Naples, because that is where the wealth of artifacts is on show, which you cannot see from what are essentially "highlight" guided tours of Herculaneum and Pompeii. In the two hours or so allotted to these sites, you get a valuable insight into their workings and history, but there is so much more that you cannot see (eg the 24kg hoard of silver ware, now in the museum). Secondly, we found that Exodus's suggested daily outgoings for lunches etc are somewhat underestimated. Unless you are happy with a simple sandwich and a beer, you are better to budget for around 30-40 euro/head on a main course and a glass of wine (or beer) plus the inevitable tip, in a restaurant. Costs have risen generally in 2022 but Amalfi, Positano and Capri are "high end "resorts, so prices are naturally inflated!

Review of highlights of the Amalfi Coast Thoroughly enjoyed this trip. The hotel was comfortable and the food very good. Hotel staff very friendly Saw everything we wanted to see. Most Inspirational Moment Difficult to choose one thing. Scenery was beautiful Thoughts on Group Leader Eduardo was an excellent guide. Very knowledgeable about the area as he lives there. Everything was well organised. Trips wer changed to suit weather conditions as appropriate. On our free day he organised a trip to Vesuvius and wine tasting. Eduardo had a good sense of humour and is very friendly. Suggestions We travelled to the Amalfi Coast at the end of August. Everywhere is very busy. Perhaps would be quieter at another time It would have been nice to have had coffee in the room.

This is a great trip for seeing the Amalfi Coast. You cover a lot within a week. There were 2 hikes for more active group members. There is also a chance to see the beautiful Italian architecture in towns such as Amalfi, Positano and Ravello. Our guide (Sev) integrated us into the Italian culture well and made everyone laugh! The hotel is a friendly warm place. The staff host cooking demonstrations some of the evenings, which was great fun.

11 june 2022 The Amalfi Highlights is a wonderful holiday; marvellous sites, marvellous scenery. Basic but very comfortable hotel. Good food. We felt the ambience was relaxing and the trip was full on. The hotel laid on fun evening cooking events. Most Inspirational Moment Much fuss made of my father for his 91st Birthday with a cake, and sparkling wine after the path of the gods walk, courtesy of our generous tour guide, Severio. The path of the gods is not to be missed. Thoughts on Group Leader Excellent group leader; very concerned for the well being of the group. Very practical and firm with the trip details. Clear instructions. Had done his homework. Knew the local region well. Made us all welcome. Bought a bottle of sparkling wine for my father's birthday which was over and above his role. V kind and much appreciated. Advice for Potential Travellers Make sure you have enough pocket money for the trips as the exchange rate is almost 1 euro: 1 pound now. The drinks tab does add up, sadly!

Wonderful trip It was a wonderful trip to the Amalfi Coast, although it was very hot, particularly on the day we visited Herculaneum and Pompeii. Severio was a very good leader. The hotel was very clean and comfortable and I enjoyed the evenings that we had the pizza and pasta demonstrations. On the whole the food was very good, although we could have done with a bit more choice for the evening meal, but breakfast was excellent, although a little chaotic with so many people trying to serve themselves at the same time. My only disappointment was that we did not have a chance to get away from Bomerano on our day off as I would have liked to go either to Naples or Vesuvius. Most Inspirational Moment The trip to Capri. I loved the chair lift to the top of the island. Also celebrating Gordon's birthday, the 91 year old on our trip. Thoughts on Group Leader Severio was very knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. He also told us about the offer of 7 drinks for the price of 5 at the bar by the pool. Advice for Potential Travellers Beware of the heat during the summer months and take plenty of suntan lotion and drink plenty of water. Take good walking shoes/boots for the Path of the Gods, and a walking pole, although they can be hired in the village.

Good in parts This was not as good as other Exodus tours we’ve been on for a variety of reasons. Main problem was the itinerary. The order changed, for no apparent reason, causing the tour to be unbalanced. The rescheduling meant the first 3 days were excellent and full on, covering Amalfi/Positano, Herculaneum/Pompeii and Capri, but the following 4 days were too relaxed with not much going on. Ravello is a lovely hilltop village but we were left there unguided for over 5 hours, far too long. The walk on “path of the gods” was the only thing planned on the penultimate day but was only a linear walk (not circular as in the trip notes) 5km total, about 2 hours. It was foggy up in the hills that day and the last day so we couldn’t see the views (not the fault of Exodus!) The final day we were kicking our heels waiting outside the hotel for the bus to the airport. The group flight back to London didn’t leave until after 7pm – Exodus should look at offering an earlier flight or putting on some activity for that day. The hotel was very comfortable and largely dedicated to Exodus tours. The staff and management were very helpful. The evening meals were very good, and the local wine was good and reasonably priced. Breakfast choices were limited but good quality. Only real drawback was no wifi in the bedroom. Most Inspirational Moment Capri was glorious. Thoughts on Group Leader Eduardo, was very experienced and made sure everything ran smoothly. The group was less cohesive than other tours I’ve been on and there was some unnecessary friction between him and a few of the guests Advice for Potential Travellers Look at the flight times. The final day we were kicking our heels waiting outside the hotel for the bus to the airport. The group flight back to London didn’t leave until after 7pm – see if you can opt for an earlier flight.
