Day 1: Welcome to Reykjavík Stays With Stories

Your epic journey through lava fields and windswept landscapes begins in Reykjavík, the world’s northernmost capital. From the color and character of Laugavegur to the warmth of its locals, this quirky city welcomes you in. Explore Viking heritage, stroll the Old Harbor or snap a photo at The Sun Voyager. Later, meet your Travel Director and fellow travelers over drinks and small bites. Tonight, check into the Grand Hotel Reykjavík, our Stays with Stories accommodation, where nods to Icelandic myths and nature set the tone. In the lobby, you’ll spot dramatic glasswork by local artist Leifur Breiðfjörð. Later tonight, you'll head out in search of the northern lights.

Day 2: Journey to Reykholt and on to Borgarnes

Explore the small capital city of Reykjavík on a sightseeing tour with your Travel Director this morning. View all the city's major attractions including the Parliament, the Harpa Concert Hall, and the city's main landmark, the Hallgrímskirkja Church, perched at the top of a hill in the heart of the city. Leave the city behind and travel through the undersea tunnel Hvalfjörðr to Akranes, whose local Folk Museum you visit before enjoying views of the rugged coastline from the town’s lighthouse. View Deildartunguhver, Europe’s highest-flowing hot spring, followed by a visit to Reykholt, famously the former 13th-century home of one of Iceland’s most loved authors, Snorri Sturluson. Nature takes center stage this afternoon, when you view Hraunfoss and nearby Barnafoss, both beautiful waterfalls in their own right and a soul-stirring way to end your day.

Day 3: A Day to Explore the Snæfellsnes Peninsula

Bundle up warmly as you make your way to the wild, sea-swept landscapes of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. You’ll soon discover why it’s fondly called 'Iceland in miniature', revealing glaciers, waterfalls, lava fields and volcanic peaks all along this compact stretch of coast. Watch for seals basking on black sand beaches and admire the fairy-tale mountain of Kirkjufell that rises like a spire beside the sea. Return to Borgarnes for a relaxed evening at leisure. Perhaps take a stroll along the town’s peaceful waterfront promenade, visit the Settlement Center to uncover Viking history or simply unwind with a hot drink while soaking up views of the fjord.

Day 4: Onwards through Thingvellir National Park to Gullfoss, Geysir and Selfoss Connect with Locals

As you travel around Iceland’s 'Golden Circle’, Mother Nature’s magic touch can be seen around every turn. Visit the 'Golden Waterfall' of Gullfoss, saved at the turn of the last century by the tenacity of a farmer's daughter who threatened to throw herself into its depths if it was developed for hydroelectric power. Then, head to the world-famous hot spring area of Geysir and see Strokkur shoot a spectacular plume of water and steam high into the air. You’ll see first-hand how the movements of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates have carved into the Earth's crust, in the UNESCO-listed Thingvellir National Park. This evening, Connect With Locals with a local storyteller and her songwriter husband, and delve into their colorful family history, then join them for dinner at an exclusive Be My Guest experience. Continue to Selfoss later, where you'll stay overnight.

During this MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience learn why Hellisheiðarvirkjun is a world leader in the utilisation of geothermal energy. You can almost feel the Earth simmering under the surface as you journey across Reykjanes Peninsula, a UNESCO Global Geopark. This is the only place in the world where the Mid-Atlantic Ridge is visible above sea level. View Strandarkikja and let some of its legendary powers bring you good luck. Then, watch as sulphurous steam emerges from the lunar landscapes surrounding Lake Kleifarvatn. Dive into Culture with a dip in a natural lagoon (please remember to pack your swimwear), where the steaming waters are said to have healing powers. Best sites, best people from experienced traveler. Both our coach driver and our travel director went above and beyond my expectations. Polli got us the best coach while Xavier got us to the best sites. I've been to Iceland before but I saw little out of the way places I never knew existed. They were stunningly beautiful. Polli even went out of his way to buy and share "Horse Candy" giving it to my very shy grandson to feed the horses. Xavier volunteered to help my grandson get safely through a line and into the Blue Lagoon. What an angel! I would go out of my way to find both of these gentlemen just to go on another trip with them. Trafalgar has only the best! Perfectly planned, ample time to rest and socialize. Free time was planned effectively.

Enable us to visit and see what we wanted, "Be My Guest dinner was good too. Excellent tour manager and driver. Had a multi-generational group and they were able to work well with everyone. Keep that itinerary for future tours to Iceland as well as offering it in the summer months.

Great tour and a wonderful guide. Really enjoyed the trip and Iceland is a great place to visit. Everything was top-notch. However, the price seemed high for what was really a four day tour. We also had to pay for a lot of our meals. I compared the cost to several cruises that circle Iceland and it would have been much less expensive per day to take a cruise with meals and a tour each day.

"Iceland In A Nutshell" Our tour guide Tamara and driver Michael were excellent. Tamara was very informative with the information about the geography and people of Iceland. I was able to come home feeling informed and satisfied with the entire trip and cost. The hotels were not 5 star but they were very good and fit the tour.

Exciting Iceland Adventure with the Blue Lagoon. It was a wonderful experience! They added additional photo opportunities along the way so we could stretch our legs and see more sites. The tour guide was absolutely delightful to listen to with her New Zealand accent. The trip was very well planned out, the included dinners and cultural experiences were excellent so I would definitely travel with Trafalgar again. The itinerary including the tour of Reykjavik, Folk Museum and lighthouse in Akranes, waterfalls Hraunfoss and Barna Foss, the black pebble beach, the Golden Waterfall of Gullfoss, Geysir and Thingveller National Park, connecting with locals with a local storyteller and a songwriter husband, geothermal heat and electric power station and the Blue Lagoon were all well thought out and all within a 2 hour drive. The coach was very comfortable and the hotels that we stayed in were all very clean and high quality.
