Trip For You
This trip is rated Activity Level 3 (Moderate). For more information on our trip gradings please visit our Activity Level Guidelines page. If you have any queries about the difficulty of the trip please do not hesitate to contact us. Walking days: FiveMaximum altitude: 7,717ft (2,352m)Maximum height gained: 2,952ft (900m)Average walking time: Six to seven hoursAverage distance: 9mi (14km) This Mont Blanc trek follows mountain paths throughout, which are generally well maintained but rocky and steep in sections, so not suitable for vertigo sufferers. The walking hours stated in the day-to-day itinerary, which include lunch and photo stops, are given as approximates only and will vary depending on your group’s pace. Preparation: The longest days can have an ascent of up to 2,952ft (900m) followed by a similar descent. This means walking uphill for two to four hours and the same down again. For this reason, those new to hill walking will likely find the trip quite tough and need to train beforehand. Itinerary changes: To deliver the best experience, we typically amend the itinerary during spring and autumn, when the bustle of the high season is replaced by a more laid-back vibe, and in late July and August, which is high season. There is also a change for September & October departures. Please see the Seasonal Itinerary Changes section of the Trip Notes for details on the changes. Additionally, the itinerary may change depending on which chalet you stay in − the tour leader will discuss these changes with you if and when they occur. Generally, those in Chalet Chalupa and Chalet Chocolat have the free day on Wednesday and those in Chalet Bediere have a free day on Tuesday. The itinerary may also be impacted by weather conditions as your tour leader may need to swap days around to ensure the best possible conditions. Accommodation: On some weeks, we may be hosting more than one group. In this instance, the groups remain separate (apart from the airport bus transfer) and stay in different chalets. We may also adjust your itinerary to ensure the groups are following different walks each day. Please note: It is essential to have helicopter evacuation cover within your travel insurance.
Group Description
We provide a qualified International Mountain Leader to escort the group on each walking day. Our walking leaders are true mountain professionals. As well as being skilled group leaders there to help assure safety on the mountain, they also impart their knowledge of the wider mountain environment such as flora and fauna, geology, weather and local customs.
Eating Drinking
All breakfasts, five picnic lunches and six dinners are included in the price of the trip. All food is home cooked in the chalet using local ingredients. Typical meals Breakfast: buffet breakfasts will usually consist of cereal, eggs, orange juice, croissants, fresh French bread, butter, jam, tea and coffee.Lunch: picnic lunches will normally include bread, fresh salad, cold meats or tinned fish, cheese and fresh fruit.Evening meal: We endeavour to make dinner something to look forward to, and each day there will be a freshly prepared menu for the whole group, consisting of a soup, salad or similar, a main course of meat, fish or vegetarian served with a selection of vegetables and carbohydrates, and a dessert. The price of the evening meal does not include wine, beer, bottled water or soft drinks.Vegetarian, gluten and dairy-free diets: Although we serve a single menu each night for the whole group, we will happily shop for and prepare alternative menus for vegetarian, gluten- and dairy-free diets, but please inform us at the time of booking. Please note: to reduce food wastage we shop to exact quantities for the whole week in advance, so if you have requested a certain diet please remain with that diet for the whole trip.
Transportation
All transport mentioned in the itinerary is included, except for optional excursions or where a client may choose to curtail a group walk. For the transfers to and from Geneva airport we normally use a private coach, other Exodus groups heading out to trek in the Alps may share this transfer. Daily transport to and from the chalet will be by the chalet’s own minibus or public transport when convenient.

When to Go
Spring and autumn: Late spring and early autumn are great times to visit Chamonix and walk in the mountains, especially for those keen on photography. The air is clear, the colours are vibrant and the paths are peaceful. Chamonix itself is very much open for business but the bustle of the high season is replaced by a more laid-back vibe. During this time, we continue to walk spectacular sections of the Mont Blanc Circuit, but may lightly adjust some days due to lying snow or a river crossing not being open. Lac Blanc and the Grand Balcon Sud walk also follow a lower route due to the gondolier being closed before 8 June and after 15 September. Cafés on the mountain may be closed for some departures. Although some days may be a little harder or a little easier, we try to ensure alterations are as minimal as possible, stay within the grading and overall theme of the trip, and (most importantly) still include the highlights of the area.  The lift schedule can occasionally change, which means they may not run on the first/last departures. If this is the case, there may be lift costs that are payable locally. Late July and August: During the high season, the traffic can be very long for the Mont Blanc tunnel that connects France and Italy. In these cases, we discuss with the group the option of exchanging the Italian day for an alternative walk. Instead, we can have a fabulous walk with views into Switzerland that follows a panoramic path to the Loriaz refuge high above the Vallorcine valley. September and October 2024 departures: From 2nd September 2024, for an estimated 15 weeks, the Mont Blanc tunnel that connects France and Italy will be closed for maintenance works. This means that we are unable to visit Italy on all departures from 2nd September – 12th October 2024. On these dates we will have a fabulous alternative walk with views into Switzerland that follows a panoramic path to the Loriaz refuge high above the Vallorcine valley.
Weather Information
From late May to late October, you can expect fair weather, but all mountain ranges create their own weather patterns and the Alps are no exception. It can and does rain and can be surprisingly cold at times, especially at higher altitudes. Expect daytime temperatures between 15C and 25C (59F and 77F) in the valleys (although it can sometimes reach 30C/86F in July/August), 5C and 20C (41F and 68F) at altitude (though it will feel colder if wet and windy) and 5C to 15C (41F to 59F) in the valley at night; possibly a little lower early and late in the season. There is always the possibility of snow, even in August.
Spending Money
There are several extra excursions available – exact prices and details will be confirmed locally, but the following provides a guide to what is normally available: — Tandem paragliding flight: €135 from Brévent or Aiguille du Midi middle stations — Day ticket to all cable cars in the valley, including the Aiguille du Midi cable car: from €70 per person
Tipping
Although optional, a tip for the leader and chalet staff at the end of the trip is greatly appreciated. The sum you choose to give is entirely personal, but as a reasonable starting point, we suggest a contribution from €25 per guest. Smaller groups may wish to give a little more per person.

Accommodation

Chalet Chocolat, Chalet Chalupa and Chalet Bediere
We use three alpine chalets with comfortable lounges and dining rooms. All have a large table where delicious home-cooked meals are served and scrumptious cakes are provided daily for afternoon tea. Chalupa and Chocolat have a private outdoor area and a hot tub, and Bediere has access to communal gardens and is only a five-minute walk to the centre of Chamonix. Chalets provide a more intimate experience than traditional hotels and the dining room often becomes a hub of living in the evening and a space to share stories from the day. Meals are prepared by the chalet hosts and enjoyed around a communal table. Additionally, the hosts live on site meaning they are available for any situation that arises. Generally, they won’t enter your rooms to change towels, make beds or clean, but they are happy to help if you feel your room needs a midweek service. None of the rooms have air conditioning but we do provide electric fans. Friends and family can typically be allocated to the same chalet, even if you have different booking references. Please notify your sales representative at the time of booking if this applies to you. Chalet Chocolat A seven-minute train ride (or 25-minute walk) from the heart of Chamonix, this seven-room chalet has a traditional alpine feel, plus a lovely garden and cosy atmosphere. Bedrooms vary in size and shape and some (not all) have access to a balcony. Chalet Chalupa In the pretty resort of Les Houches, Chalet Chalupa provides modern chalet accommodation in the Chamonix Valley. It has six well-proportioned rooms and an extensive deck with a fire pit. Twenty minutes from central Chamonix by bus, the chalet provides a spacious and comfortable living space with the amenities of Les Houches nearby. Chalet Bediere Only a five-minute walk from the centre of Chamonix, this 1920s mansion has five stylish rooms and a communal outdoor space with mountain views. It is decorated in an art deco style and was refurbished in 2023, keeping the original character of the property. Worth knowing On booking, your confirmation documents will name Chalet Chalupa; however, you may be allocated to Chalet Chocolat or Chalet Bediere. This is confirmed on your Final Joining Instructions sent four weeks before your departure date.If you prefer one chalet over the other, please let us know at the time of booking and we will do our best to fulfil your request. Requests for a specific chalet must be made to our customer operations team six weeks before departure at the latest. The walking itinerary is the same for all chalets; however, the order of the walks may differ slightly. In Chalet Chocolat, one top-floor bedroom has a window in the roof rather than a wall-mounted window, and a large private bathroom on the floor below. There is also a smaller twin room on the ground floor of the property with a private bathroom. Both of these rooms are used as single rooms and are usually allocated to the first solo people to book. The availability of these single rooms depends on the numbers booked per departure and cannot be guaranteed. For 2025 departures onwards there is the option to pay a single supplement to have a double room for solo use (see Dates & Prices tab for costs). There are no guest laundry or parking facilities at the chalets. If you are driving, please speak to your operations executive about parking options.

Itinerary

1
Day 1: Start Chalet Chalupa, Chalet Chocolat or Chalet Bediere

Welcome to your alpine chalet, your beautiful base for this incredible walking holiday. We’ll walk into Chamonix in the afternoon, before a pre-dinner briefing from the walking leader, where you can ask any questions you may have.

2
Day 2: Drive to the head of the Chamonix Valley; walk towards Switzerland via the trekking peak L'Aiguillette des Posettes and on to Col du Possettes and then descend back towards La Tour

Our first walk of the week is on the slopes of the Col de Balme from where we will have views back to Mont Blanc and into Switzerland. From the small hamlet of Montroc we have a short warm-up walk before the trail turns uphill on a steady zigzag path. As the trees thin, the views get even better and by late morning we reach L'Aiguillette des Posettes (7,220ft/2,200m). This is a peak from which we are rewarded with a panorama over the Chamonix Valley, the Aiguilles Rouges National Nature Reserve, and around to Switzerland. The path continues down to the Col des Posettes and then on a steady trail becoming ever more winding and finally down to La Tour.

3
Day 3: Transfer above Les Houches; ascend to the Bel Lachat Refuge, before crossing the Carlaveyron Natural Reserve and summiting the Aiguillette des Houches and the Aiguillette du Brévent

Today we have a spectacular walk from the Merlet park up to the Bel Lachat refuge on the classic Tour de Mont Blanc and GR5 routes. Crossing the beautiful Carlaveyron Natural Reserve, we summit the Aiguillette des Houches (7,500ft/2,285m) for one of the finest views in the Alps - looking directly across the Chamonix Valley to the Mont Blanc summit. Passing through alpine meadows we descend by a different route to La Flatière.

4
Day 4: Starting from Les Contamines valley, we cross the Col de Voza and continue towards Les Houches

Approximately a 35-minute transfer from our chalet brings us to Les Contamines valley which is where we start our walk back towards the Chamonix Valley. The day starts on a valley path that narrows and steepens as we climb up towards the Passerelle de Bionnassay, a dramatic suspension bridge spanning a white-water stream that tumbles from the Bionnassay glacier above. The route then brings us round to the Col de Voza (5,360ft/1,653m) with an expansive view up the Chamonix Valley. During the afternoon we trek down to the valley floor although there is a cable car option (payable locally) if you have tired legs. On this walk there is also a short section descending where chains can be used as handrails down a rocky path, plus a short ladder to ascend.

5
Day 5: Free day for optional walks, activities or sightseeing

Today is a free day for optional walks or sightseeing. Your leader will be able to advise you on possible walking routes or you may choose to visit the bustling alpine resort town of Chamonix, which has numerous shops, bars, restaurants and cafes. There are several cable car excursions you can make from Chamonix; the most spectacular is the ascent to the Aiguille du Midi (12,600ft/3,842m), offering fantastic views of Mont Blanc and surrounding peaks. It should also be possible to take the mountain train up to Montenvers for close-up views of the glacier, Mer de Glace, or if you are feeling adventurous you could enjoy a tandem paragliding flight. Please note: It is necessary to book a space on the Aiguille du Midi lift and usually the earlier a ticket is bought the better value it is. We will brief you about this on your arrival day. However, if you want to find out more before you travel, or even book your place in advance, you can do so at www.montblancnaturalresort.com/en/ If booking, please remember that those in Chalet Chalupa and Chalet Chocolat have their free day on Wednesday and those in Chalet Bediere have a free day on Tuesday.

6
Day 6: Drive through the Mont Blanc tunnel to Italy; climb to Bonatti refuge and traverse high above the spectacular Val Ferret to Courmayeur

We drive through the Mont Blanc tunnel to Italy. From Arp Nouva we climb up and along to the Bonatti refuge. At just over (6,560ft/2,000m), the view from here is one of the finest on the tour. Mont Blanc itself, the towering rocky peak of Grandes Jorasses, and the glaciers that crowd the northern flank of Val Ferret are there to be admired. Following a dramatic traversing path, we contour high above the valley before descending towards the valley floor. Time allowing, we head off to Courmayeur, the perfect spot for a well-deserved Italian ice cream. Ascent: 1,500ft (450m); descent: 1,804ft (550m); walking time: seven hours Late July and August: Occasional high season weeks in July and August the traffic queue can become very long for the Mont Blanc tunnel that connects France and Italy, so in these cases we will discuss with the group the option of exchanging the Italian day for an alternative walk. Instead, we will have a fabulous walk with views into Switzerland that follows a panoramic path to the Loriaz refuge high above the Vallorcine valley. Ascent: 2,460ft (750m); distance covered: 9km (5.6mi); walking time: six hours September and October 2024 departures: From 2nd September 2024, for an estimated 15 weeks, the Mont Blanc tunnel that connects France and Italy will be closed for maintenance works. This means that we are unable to visit Italy on all departures from 2nd September – 12th October 2024. On these dates we will have a fabulous alternative walk with views into Switzerland that follows a panoramic path to the Loriaz refuge high above the Vallorcine valley. Ascent: 2,460ft (750m); distance covered: 9km (5.6mi); walking time: six hours

7
Day 7: Lac Blanc and the Grand Balcon Sud

From our chalet in Chamonix, we walk to Les Praz and take the gondola to La Flégère. From this higher vantage point, we will start a circular walk to Lac Blanc (7,715ft/2,352m), which affords excellent views of the whole massif lying to our south. After plenty of time enjoying the panorama, we descend to Lacs des Chéserys where, on a still day, we will see the mountains reflected in the water. En route there is a short ladder to descend. From here, we descend a little further again onto the Grand Balcon Sud and walk back to La Flégère. What remains of the afternoon is free to enjoy Chamonix centre or return to the chalet to relax in the garden. Distance: 5.6mi (9km); ascent: 1,770ft (540m); descent: 1,770ft (540m); walking time: seven hours Please note: the above distance does not include the flat walk from the chalet to the gondola, which is a few kilometres depending on which chalet you are in. Alternatively, we may take public transport. Spring and autumn departures: La Flégère gondola is open for trips between 10th June and 16th September. Outside this time, the gondola is due to be closed and its cost is not included in the price of the holiday. If the timetable changes and the lift is open, the cable car cost will be paid locally (approximately €20). Alternatively, we will enjoy the following spring and autumn itinerary. From Argentière (4,100ft/1,250m) we start our day following the petit Balcon Sud before changing tack and climbing to the Grand Balcon Sud that contours the Chamonix valley. The panoramic views over the valley to Mont Blanc and all the other peaks, valleys and glaciers are breathtaking. From La Flégère we descend via Chalet Floria where we will have time for a cup of tea. Due to the added descent this is a little harder than the summer itinerary, but the views are equally stunning. Distance: 7.5mi (12km) plus any extra flat walking in the valley getting to and from the chalet; ascent: 2,430ft (740m); descent: 3,120ft (950m); walking time: eight hours

8
Day 8: End Chamonix

Invigorated after a week treading alpine trails, take one final look at Mont Blanc before starting your journey home. Not ready for the adventure to end? You can always speak to your sales representative about extending your stay in this magnificent region.

A fantastic trip! I just had a fabulous week at Chalet Chalupa! The hosts, Adrian & Helena, were amazing. They were very friendly and always made sure that we’re happy. They always prepared delicious meals and cakes with wide variety (local, Mediterranean, healthy and oriental) and we all enjoyed it together with the group of great people. The room was specious and comfortable, the common areas were also always clean and had warm atmosphere. The car ride by them was also really fun and informative about the trip/area. Our guide, Shaun, was very knowledgeable and flexible based on the weather etc. This was my first hiking experience and he absolutely made it special. Everyday there were full of amazing views and walks!

A brilliant week We had a great week at Chalet Chocolat. Tomas and Sol were great hosts catering to a variety of dietary needs with minimal fuss. I enjoyed some meals more than others but that is to be expected. I loved the honesty bar and the social occasion that dinner became. The weather Gods were not smiling on us so we only had 3 days where I would say we had good weather however this was not to the detriment of our hiking experience but come prepared for 4 seasons in a day, even in the height of summer. Most Inspirational Moment Finally getting to see Mont Blanc towards the end of the week. We were joking that perhaps it didn’t actually exist!! Our trip coincided with UTMB and as an ultra trail fan I was in my element. It was good that the rest of the group also became avid supporters which culminated in us all cheering the runners on at the 2 mile point of the main race outside the local pub. Just brilliant!! Thoughts on Group Leader Rob was an exceptional leader and despite varying abilities kept the whole group together all week something I found out was less likely than I thought it would be. He tweaked routes according to the conditions although I never felt we were missing out. Some of his times and distances were a bit on the conservative side and became a running joke which was taken in good humour by everyone. Advice for Potential Travellers Take enough clothes for all weathers. There are no washing facilities at the chalet so bear that in mind. Suggestions To begin with I found breakfast and making our packed lunch up for the day a bit rushed but this improved throughout the week as the group gelled and we all got into the ebb and flow of things. I also felt that the trip to Courmayeur was unnecessary given the conditions on that day and the fact we waited 2hrs to come back through the Mont Blanc tunnel. I didn’t think it was a good use of our hosts time who were the van drivers for the day and that we were adding to the congestion becoming part of the problem rather than the solution.

Mount Blanc Highlights supported hiking Overall a good trip, we stayed at Chalet Chalupa a short free bus ride from busy Chaminoux. Our Chalet hosts Adrian and Helena were exceptional and made us all feel at home. They cooked all meals, provided transport and kept the place clean. They went above and beyon to get me ice for my beverages, had home baked “End of hike treats” and created a family atmosphere among strangers. My favorite dessert was the cheesecake! This Chalet has a hot tub too! Our guide Jen was awesome as well, she took us on a bus ride to understand the system, let us know the bus would be crowded, pointed out good places to shop for deals and best food places. She also explained the cable car pricing for our free day. Every night she had a brief of the next day hike and what to expect. Most Inspirational Moment The kindness of all the people on the trip, Adrian, Helena and Jen. You see I fell at the end of our fist day, after the hike on a dirt road to town. I broke my leg in 2 places and was helicoptered to the ER. It was free by the way. Jen kept calm and called for the evacuation, she elevated my foot and kept me comfortable. She watched for signs of shock and covered me with a blanket. I had little pain and never went into shock. Jen stayed with my husband on the way to the ER and still completed her duties to the rest of the guest once she washed the helicopter roto dirt out of everyplace you can have dirt! I spent one night in the Chalet wating for a hospital bed, Adrian got a plastic chair and bag for my cast so I could shower with the aid of my husband. The room had a walk in shower ADA accessible! They provided ice pack for my elevated leg as I napped in bed and fed me lunch. They were caring and creative in accomodating me that night. I can't say enough about the support from Exodus travel in our time of need. My husband was able to complete 3 of the 5 hikes and everyone was gracious in keeping him engaged as I had surgery in France. It went well and by the way was exceptional, they have world class orthopedic trauma surgeons on staff. After all it is an area of extreme sports. Buy that trip insurance it is well worth it! Thoughts on Group Leader Jen is amazaing, she is caring, warm and paces hikes well. Our first day it was hot so she took us on a route that had shade a good bit of the up. She routed us past an ice creme place so we could stop and have a reward. Plenty of time for photo's. She made sure we all took a photo of a sign with her cell number and set up a chat if we wished to participate . She is a gem. Advice for Potential Travellers Buy trip insurance. Don't pack too much. Be open to different cultures and foods. Shop early for the best selection and rooms. Rooms were allocated by who signed up first, so ours was reasonable. Get in shape before you go, hike some elevation gain and hydrate well at least a week before and then on the trail. I'm a well traveled, experienced hike leader with WFA training and still I fell on a dirt road. I had hiking poles and was in great shape, accidents happen. Exodus treated us well and their staff supported us in every way. Go and enjoy the Mountains, pack rain gear, you never know. Suggestions I would plan a trip with this group again. Remember you are staying in a town and the up side is no packing everything on your back, you return to a shower, your own bed, snacks and a meal. My hubby did a hut to hut with our daughter a few years ago and this was much better! You have an experienced guide and world class chalet.

Amazing trip What an amazing trip. Starting with the chalet and our amazing hosts – the accommodation was beautiful and comfortable, and nothing was too much trouble for Helena and Adrian. Every meal was special, healthy and delicious. For me and the other vegan on the trip, they went to a huge amount of effort, and even provided vegan cheeses for breakfast and prepared vegan cakes and other treats for the end of each hiking day. One of my souvenirs from the trip is one of Helena’s vegan cake recipes. So if you are vegan and wondering about this trip: it is definitely vegan friendly! Our three course dinners were always delicious and inventive. It was such a pleasure to cap off an extraordinary day on the alps with their hospitality and delicious food. And speaking of the hikes: the pictures in the hike preview are extraordinary, but are not misleading. The views on the hikes were really stunning. Our mountain guide, Hris, was fantastic. He was personable, knowledgeable, and did a great job leading a group of mixed abilities and interests.

A wonderful first time in Europe My stay at Chalet Chalupa was absolutely wonderful. The rooms were spacious, well-lit, and comfortable. The common areas were always clean and ready to use, and they even provided fresh fruit and tea every day. Helena and Adrien were simply the best hosts. They were attentive, always with a smile on their faces, and they surprised me with delicious special meals tailored to my dietary needs – they even had a different type of bread for me due to my health issues. It was the first time my diet didn’t pose a problem, and I could truly savor the delicious food. Adrien was friendly and provided us with a lot of information for our free day, enjoying helping us with the map and offering extra insights during our car ride. He genuinely has a wealth of knowledge about the area and enjoys sharing it. Helena, on the other hand, is a naturally pleasant person. She is sweet, cheerful, detail-oriented, and very intelligent. Our conversations were truly inspiring, and her cakes were simply delightful. In general the food overall was a pleasant surprise. Eugenia, our guide, is a strong, knowledgeable woman who expertly handled our large group. Most Inspirational Moment There were plenty of enjoyable moments. The views of Mont Blanc were breathtaking. Being able to finish the route alongside the group, despite our vastly different ages, was quite heartwarming. The conversations with Helena gave me the strength to keep up with the hikes and to believe in my abilities. Thoughts on Group Leader She's a sharp woman, with plenty of physical prowess, and she's got the knack for keeping the group united. Advice for Potential Travellers Enjoy the hikes fearlessly, pack some warm clothes in your suitcase (the weather can be quite unpredictable), and make sure to spend some time with the hosts to learn about them and their amazing bike journey.

What a week! We had a fabulous week in Chalet Chocolat, Chamonix. Tommy and Sol were friendly and welcoming Chalet hosts, the Chalet was well designed for our use and very comfortable. The walks were truly memorable – made so by our knowledgeable and encouraging guide Rob.It was an added bonus to be there for the UTMB – the Ultra Trailrunning Mont Blanc week. Rob made sure that we could watch the best bits and Chamonix was a real party place to be there then. Most Inspirational Moment Hard to judge - it was all good. Thoughts on Group Leader Very impressed with his knowledge and ability to lead a group with quite a variety of walking speeds. Very encouraging when it was needed and always there if you had a wobbly moment.

Fantastic Trip & Team The week at Chalet Chalupa was amazing! The hosts, Adrian & Helena welcomed us with bright smiles! The hikes were beautiful, even if the weather didn’t cooperate. The chalet was clean, and felt very comfortable. Augustin, our guide, was informative and took the whole group’s abilities into account. Things were well organized & went smoothly. The food was fantastic! All the meals were abundant and able to recharge all the calories we lost! Adrian, Helena & Augustin really went the extra mile to ensure we were happy. I enjoyed Chalet Chalupa & the Mont Blanc Highlights. Most Inspirational Moment I really enjoyed the top of the mountain views. The views, regardless of the weather were just breathtaking. Thoughts on Group Leader He was very knowledgeable, able to manage a large group and could infuse a sense of fun with a professionalism & safety. Advice for Potential Travellers Bring & pack layers of clothes & plan for unpredictable weather. Suggestions I would love a cookbook of the food we had.

A Fabulous Trip! Five amazing and beautiful hikes! A fabulous guide and a lovely host and hostess! Most Inspirational Moment We’ve hiked before, but this was hiking on a whole other level. The tips and tricks that allowed us to reach each summit was inspirational and the nature and beauty around us was picture perfect. Thoughts on Group Leader Maria was inspirational and kind. He encouraged us, helped keep us safe and provided us with tips along the way. He was an excellent guide with a love of nature. Advice for Potential Travellers The hikes can be challenging. The best attitude is a positive, “can do” attitude. Suggestions Helena and Adrian were our hosts at Chalet Chalupa and they really made the Chalet feel like home. Dinners were a treat and we had the most lovely roast chicken, empanada, cheese platters, curry chicken, tartiflette, zucchini soup and cheesecake. We had an amazing group and such a fun week!

Exhilarating and Invigorating Comfortable, attractive, beautifully located accommodation, perfectly suited to its intended purpose. This was complemented in particular by the hosts Adrian and Elena, who went out of their way to welcome us. Courteous, friendly, attentive and professional in their roles, plus excellent in their choice of food provision, particularly dinner to come back to after the strenuous walks which amassed an appetite! Maria the tour guide really added to the pleasure of the walks, with his manner, friendliness, enthusiasm and planning of routes. A good friend of mine joined me on this trip, his first with Exodus. Used to beach holidays with his kids, this holiday, the hosts and the scenery exceeded his expectations. He’ll be an Exodus regular yearly now. I’ll repeat this trip periodically due to the ongoing beauty of the Mont Blanc surroundings. Between these trips, I look forward to visiting other locations with Exodus.

Loved this walking trip. We are active walkers but this was our first guided trip and it was fantastic. Fred our leader was great – the right combination of knowledgable, friendly and enthusiastic. The walks are all enjoyable but sufficiently different in terms of scenery and style. There was an issue with the MB tunnel which caused us to do an alternate walk – but the group was flexible and we enjoyed the alternative. The weather in August was quite variable from fairly cool and damp to hot and humid – so you potentially will need all your high mountain gear options. The group, as usual, was a great mix of people and we enjoyed everyone’s company along the trails. Chalet Chocolat is comfortable and the food provided by Sole and Thomas was delicious and varied. Most Inspirational Moment Reaching the summit of Aiguilettes des Houches and the 360 degree mountain views. Thoughts on Group Leader Fred our leader was great - the right combination of knowledgable, friendly and enthusiastic. Advice for Potential Travellers The weather in August was quite variable from fairly cool and damp to hot and humid - so you potentially will need all your high mountain gear options.

An incredible trip! Had a fantastic time in Chamonix. A very well organized adventure through Exodus with a wonderful walking guide (Fred) and great support staff (Sol and Tom) who cooked fantastic food for us throughout the trip. This was the first guided walking tour my wife and I had done and we couldn’t recommend it more! We also had a great group of people who we spent the week with and are now fortunate enough to call our friends. Most Inspirational Moment Making it to the top of the mountain each day and having lunch with incredible views! Thoughts on Group Leader Fred was a fantastic group leader. He ensured the group stayed together throughout each walk, was always patient and understanding and adapted when things didn't go exactly to plan. He was also a pleasure to speak with during the hikes and tried to accommodate our every request (e.g. finding an ice cream stop each afternoon). Advice for Potential Travellers Even if you're only in a half a mind to do this, don't think too much and just sign up. You won't regret it!

Amazing holiday My husband and I just returned from this trip and it was absolutely perfect. The hikes had breathtaking views and were physically challenging but doable. Our accommodation at the Chalet Chocolat were very comfortable. The food that was prepared by our hosts, Sol and Tomas, was so delicious. It was so helpful not to worry about where and what we were going to eat each day. I can’t say enough about this trip. My husband and I made wonderful memories. Thank you ?? Most Inspirational Moment The first day we had a more challenging hike and I didn’t think I could do it. Our guide, Jenny, and our trip mates were so supportive. They were so patient and encouraging. Also all the scenery was so beautiful and everyday we saw something so inspiring. Thoughts on Group Leader Our guide, Jenny, was so wonderful. She took care of every detail. She spent so much time planning everything. Especially, the plan for next day based on the weather and the feelings of the group. She went out of her way to make sure we all of our needs were met. I felt very safe with here as she was so knowledgeable. Advice for Potential Travellers I would definitely recommend good hiking shoes and hiking poles. The ascent and descent in the Alps is definitely different than in other parts of the world. Suggestions My husband and I had a such wonderful holiday. We really appreciate everything that our guide and our hosts did to make our trip so memorable.thank you

Magical Mountain Moments If like me, you seek a mountain adventure with the chance of meeting strangers and leaving with new friends, this could be the trip for you. My experience was everything I had hoped for and more. Stunning walks with spectacular scenery, led by Fred, our knowledgeable and wise mountain leader. Fabulous companions on the trails sharing tales and stories and life’s experiences. A large family feel to our cozy wood chalet with our wonderful Chalet Chocolate hosts Sol and Tomas who provided delicious food, catering for everyone’s dietary requests, and always with a cheery smile. Returning after the day’s walk to a Sol & Tomas fresh baked cake, sharing a cup of wine in the hot tub in lovely gardens overlooked by the Mont Blanc Massif, and spending evening time with laughter. A trip to heal the soul ! Most Inspirational Moment After watching your feet on the rocky trail, manoeuvring across a tricky terrain, or popping out of tree line ….. turning around and seeing the majestic mountains sourounding you and leaning into it like a giant hug. I could never tire of it. Exploring the alpine wildflower meadows in July in the mid altitudes was joyous. Such variety of plant life and wildlife, and delighted to discover the elusive blue gentian! Eating lunch in front of eight glaciers of the Grande Jorrasses on the Italian section of the TMB was an incredible experience, and humbling to see how far the glaciers have retreated. Thoughts on Group Leader Fred was everything you could hope for in mountain leader, professional, experienced, personable and attentive. He watched closely and responded well to people’s individual abilities, offering guidance and encouragement as needed. He gave clear and informative evening briefings to set the scene for the day ahead and joined in with our evening meal with easy and friendly conversation. Advice for Potential Travellers The walks aren’t technical and don’t require ultra fitness, but stamina to repeat 6hrs of mountain hiking daily with reasonably long periods of ascent, is advisable. Know your own abilities when booking this trip. Highly recommend walking poles for the descents. Room size and layout will differ in Chalets and hotel accommodations, not all are equal. If you are considering this trip, it is likely you are for the mountain hiking rather than the bedroom, be mindful that you might not have the best room and ask yourself whether it would matter. If you want to experience glaciers … don’t delay too long ! Always listen to your guide … take your waterproofs everywhere every day !! ?? Suggestions This is my second Exodus trip and both have been utterly delightful. It is a great team and I would highly recommend booking , I know I will be choosing a third very soon. Giving thanks to all involved ??

Hosts with the most After a week of trekking and having arrived home…the gear cleaned and aired out, and laundry done it’s a pleasure to take a pause and take a moment to celebrate a wonderful trek, with amazing like-minded people who love the outdoors. Gratitude to the Exodus Travels team for making it memorable. Acknowledgment to our guide Fred who is a total pro and our Chalet Chocolat hosts Sol and Tomas for their warmth, thoughtfulness and efforts in taking care of us. A host is defined as someone as accommodating, impressive and engaging and my experience this was true of all 3! Most Inspirational Moment Our new friend Sarah-Jane boldly declaring ‘I am strong’. ??Then demonstrating it with her actions in consistent hiking and parasailing for the first time. Also, the hike along the Bonatti refuge in Italy was one of the most memorable views of a lifetime. The additional reward of tasty gelato in Courmayeur with new friends was a special treat. Thoughts on Group Leader Professional, encouraging, sincere, reliable Advice for Potential Travellers Read the reviews on chalet accommodations in advance…know before you go. The chalet is solid. Being proximate to Chaminox was a plus. Hot tub, nice add. I’ve made many backpacking treks and stayed in tents mostly. I wanted here to do a level up from that and overall was pleased. I’d had the awareness that it could feel cramped for some and while I’ve never lived in a house with 13 people I could fully see how that overall experience not being for everyone. Do the research and if not for you choose another option. Suggestions Overall, my experience from what was promised to what delivered was very much in line. Acknowledgment to Peace and Carmel from customer experience for making the preparation easier and smooth.

Mike Crooke   -  Traveled, May 2023

A Memorable week in the Mountains The Mont Blanc Highlights tour that we recently completed in early May 2023 was excellent. The tour guide, Mike, was knowledgeable and put together 5 days of walks that were varied and challenged the group within their limits and within the conditions at the time. As it was the first tour of the season Mike had assessed each walk by doing them prior to the arrival of the group. Each evening he would provide a briefing about the walk the following day and answer all questions. At the end of the 5 days of walking he emailed the group a map and details of each of the walks we had completed – this was appreciated by the group. Chalet Chalupa was comfortable and homely for the week of the stay. The communal areas were quite spacious (for a group of 12) and well equipped. The bedrooms were fine, although the beds would have benefited from a top sheet as we found the duvet tended to be too warm. Helena and Adrian were top hosts. They are both warm, friendly people who welcomed everyone the minute they arrived. Their cooking was delicious, and they made every attempt to cope with the various dietary requirements. The bar and snack bar were always well stocked, and they purchased additional items if requested by the guests. Their sunny dispositions and positive approach to life made them a pleasure to be around. All in all it was an excellent week and one we would unhesitatingly recommend to others. Most Inspirational Moment There were many, especially in relation to the walks themselves. On the second last day we paused for lunch - a spot with a beautiful view and a small herd of Ibex resting nearby, paying us no attention. In the distance a group of 30 or so high school children were holding an Alpine Mass, their singing ringing out over the hills. Thoughts on Group Leader Mike, our group leader, was extremely knowledgeable and was able to 'read' the group and its abilities very well. He was also fun to be with, a really good leader. Advice for Potential Travellers Don't come with a lot of expectations, allow the experience to simply unfold, and you will have a memorable trip. Suggestions The couple hosting at the Chalet Chalupa were really lovely and full of fun and enthusiasm, returning to their smiles and great food each evening was great. If there were more people like them and Mike our leader, maybe our world would be in less trouble than it is today. A Memorable trip, highly recommended.

Not a Good Substitute for the TMB The people were fantastic. Our guide, Jeni, is the absolute best! She is kind, smart, knowledgeable, and made the week both fun and interesting. Our chalet hosts, Tomas and Sol, we’re equally great. They made us feel at home, cooked excellent meals, and helped us explore the area when we weren’t on our guided hikes. These three people get 5 stars. They made the trip for me. The hikes were not what I expected. My reading of the trip’s description is that we would be hiking select portions of the traditional Trail du Mount Blanc (TMB). That’s really not what we did. We took day hikes that started and ended at the valley floor, with some day’s hikes consisting of a full loop to end up where we started. The hike up was usually beautiful, but some of the descents were on the rough side. Two of the hikes descended on long stretches of 4×4 access roads covered in large rocks. Each of these had an optional ski lift or tram that could be taken, and you have to pay for the ticket yourself. But trust me, it’s worth the extra 17€ to avoid these sections. Don’t let your ego make you walk down on these roads. So, the people were excellent, but the hikes were not what I was expecting. If you’re looking for moderate level day hikes around the Mont Blanc area, this will work. If you want to hike the TMB, this will show you small parts of it, but you may leave disappointed. Thoughts on Group Leader Jeni is the greatest ambassador Exodus Travels could ever have. ?????????? Suggestions Tomas and Sol ??????????

Spectacular trip This is a spectacular trip The hikes are wonderful very well planned and guided. Our guide Evgenia was outstanding. She planned which hike to do based on the conditions but was flexible taking into account all the abilities of the group. She communicated well with everyone and had a great sense of humour. The chalet chapula hosts were also wonderful. They were very accommodating and the meals were indeed something to look forward to. I was aware that the rooms in chalet chapula were not identical but our room was very good for us. The one comment about the hiking was that I think these hikes were more like a 4/7 rather than a 3/7. As such I would suggest a higher level of preparation for this hike. Most Inspirational Moment We found that the hike to Courmayeur was the inspirational day. Hiking up to above the tree line and then seeing Mont Blanc and the other peaks around was incredible Thoughts on Group Leader Evgenia was a fantastic guide. She worked really well with our group, She c was always smiling and positive. She has a wonderful sense of humour. I felt that even though I was the slowest she was encouraging and so I had an exceptional experience. Evgenia communicated very well with the group in her briefings the night before the hike, during the hike and after the hike through a chat she had set up. She always wanted me to finish the hike but did modify things for me when needed. When I do another trekking tour with exodus I would want Evgenia as my guide. Advice for Potential Travellers I feel that these are harder hikes than the 3/7 stated in the exodus material. As such I would suggest a higher level of training maybe level 2. For people coming from outside Europe it might be a good idea to arrive two days before the hiking to acclimatize. Suggestions Using the public buses to transport the hikers can be problematic as the buses are always packed. This is especially true at the end of a hike when the hikers are tired. If the logistics could be worked out I suggest that at least at the end of the day the vans could be used.

Hiking A+….Accommodation C Hands down, the hiking is amazing. Spectacular views and a more-than-competent guide. That said, the trip was not without issue. Lots of relatively minor issues and inconveniences that compounded. Some were within Exodus’s control and some were not (I have already provided feedback to Exodus directly so I’m not speaking out of turn here). The accommodation was just OK – breakfasts were a little basic/repetitive and dinners, while delicious, offered no choice. I personally enjoyed each evening meal but I noticed others left some meals largely untouched with no alternative available to them. Chalet Chocolat, overall, could probably use a bit of a refresh and 2 of the 7 rooms are not even close to being equal to the others. It would be nice if these substandard rooms could be offered on discount to customers who are well-informed of the room differences in advance. This would help to prevent any negative surprises once you arrive on holiday. Most Inspirational Moment All of the hikes were spectacular but the L’Aiguilette des Posettes was probably my favorite hike. Thoughts on Group Leader Mike was great- knowledgeable about the area, kept us well informed and worked hard to include everyone in conversation. Advice for Potential Travellers The hikes on this trip have some pretty good elevation gain. Pre-trip hill walking will help prepare you. Trekking poles for the descent will help save your knees.

Absolutely incredible trip The Tour de Mont Blanc highlights was truly one of the most incredible trips I’ve ever done. The beautiful views and hiking routes were complimented perfectly with the incredible Exodus staff. Our guide, Mike, was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and always ensured the entire group was having a good and safe experience. Our Chalet, Chalet Chocolat, was spacious, had beautiful views and very comfortable living spaces. My mom and I requested two twin beds and received our own room with our own bathroom. The hosts for the Chalet were also incredible. Saul and Tom cooked us delicious dinners every night, had an afternoon cake out for us after hikes, buffet style breakfasts and picnic lunches ready every morning. They also were friendly and super helpful if you ever needed any extra accommodations or cleaning. I will definitely be doing more exodus trips and highly recommend this trip in particular! Thoughts on Group Leader Our group leader, Mike, was absolutely fantastic. Mike is a big part of the reason this trip was so incredible for my mom and I and we are incredibly thankful for him! He was knowledgeable about each hike, accommodating to all the group, very friendly and made each hiking day incredible easy to just follow his lead and enjoy the views.

Fabulous mountain trip A well planned and orgamised holiday. From the moment we arrived in Geneva Airport and met Robert, our guide for the week, we relaxed and waited in eager anticipation for the week’s adventures to unfold. We were welcomed to Chalet Chocolat by Tom and Sol who prepared delicious home cooked meals (and not forgetting the cakes!) and packed lunches every day. Robert was an excellent and knowledgeable guide who also managed our mixed ability group well. The minor issues which inevitably arise on this type of holiday were quickly resolved. We had some interesting walks and returned home feeling both fit and refreshed. Most Inspirational Moment There were several but the walk on the final day with the views from the top of the valley into Switzerland and Italy was very special. That, and the lovely and interesting members of our group of walkers. Thoughts on Group Leader Robert was excellent. Knowledgeable, calm, organised and helpful. And we had some great conversations!
