God dag! That’s good day in Norwegian and it’s definitely a good day for an Arctic adventure. We'll meet our Trip Manager and Contiki crew to say ‘Hei’ here in Tromso (AKA the Gateway of the Arctic). Expect stunning arctic scenery, a vibrant cultural scene. Plus a chance to see the Northern Lights!

Even though the sun doesn’t rise, you’ll need to be ready to rise and shine for some Arctic action this morning. You can choose to glide through the Arctic fjords (on a super cool hybrid-electric boat). Panoramic views. Playful seals. And if you're lucky, once-in-a-lifetime sightings of humpback whales and orcas! Yep. Norway is a feast for the eyes.

Wake up to fresh Arctic air and a free morning. For panoramic views of the city, we'll ride the cable car up to Mount Storsteinen. For the adventurous and energetic, afterwards you could try a polar plunge and a sauna for a true Arctic experience. Epic either way. It'll be hard to contain our excitement as we board the Hurtigruten ship in the late afternoon and set sail for the next couple of days, following the wild coastline towards Skjervøy in search of the beguiling Northern Lights. Dinner is up to you this evening but you’ll be able to choose from the onboard restaurants serving authentic produce, fresh from local communities.

Ahoy! We hope the ship rocked you soundly to sleep. This morning we sail through the Magerøysund sound and after an early stop in Hammerfest, we arrive in Honningsvåg. From here, you can join an excursion to the spectacular North Cape (subject to availability), the northernmost point of Europe, which is just 2000 km from the geographic North Pole. The ship continues northward along the coast of Lapland, passing by the Finnkjerka rock formation, the old sacrificial site of the Sami people. Don’t forget to look for the lights! While there’s no guarantee of seeing the elusive and mysterious Northern Lights we are definitely in the right place at the right time. The sky needs to be dark and clear of cloud and they will most likely show between 5pm and 2am, so grab yourself a coffee and keep your eyes peeled.

The last port on our voyage northward is Kirkenes. Located at 30°E, we’re now further east than Istanbul! The Russian border is close by, and all signs are written in both Norwegian and Russian. Here in Kirkenes, you'll have the unique opportunity to experience dogsledding with an expert musher and huskies. Afterwards, we'll end our day in the town that brought us the very first snow hotel (made completely of snow and ice).

By now you should be completely chilled. But pull on your mittens, we're headed to the airport and hopping aboard a flight to Tromso. Back in Tromso, a free afternoon awaits before getting the chance to immerse yourself in local culture with an optional MAKE TRAVEL MATTER™ Sámi Experience. Visit a Sámi camp, be welcomed into a lavvo-hut (Sámi tent) to warm up with a hot drink, get up close to the herd of reindeer at feeding time, and discover how the indigenous people of the Arctic live, with proceeds from the experience going back into the local community. All that's left to do is get a good night's sleep!

I think there wasn't enough planned it was a more laid back kinda tour which I don't think was made obvious enough. Lots of time to do my own thing and felt like the highlight I did I payed extra for or planned and did myself. If we didn't see the northern lights I would have really not enjoyed the trip. Booking is easy with different payment options.

This trip was absolutely amazing. Norway is such a magical place and I had so much fun everywhere we went, even the tiny towns with not much there. I would 100% recommend this trip, especially in winter.

A great trip overall. We got to see the northern lights three nights in a row, everyone in the group was amazing, and the optional add ons were great. We didn't get to see the whales but that was more a seasonal thing. I feel like meeting up in Trømso would be better but still a really great trip overall that I would highly recommend!!

Everything went over quite well. Something to note would be the start being known earlier. I learned of the 4pm after I had left Canada and long after I had booked my flights, only arriving in Norway at 6pm. Booking was easy and quick.

This was an epic adventure!!! The add ons were incredible experiences and worth every single penny! This trip is not for the faint hearted we experienced some extreme cold but there is no such thing as bad weather just poor clothing choices! This is for sure a bucket list trip many once in a life time experiences that will stay with me forever! Shout out to Patsy the trip manager! If you want to properly see and experience Norway, this is the perfect trip to do. All of the free time add-ons were outstanding and exceeded my expectations. We spent the perfect amount of time in each place and saw the winter wonderland at a relaxed pace with a perfect sized group (23 as opposed to 40+ people on other contiki tours). My only criticisms would be that the hotel in Oslo could have been more central considering the price we paid for the trip, and a bus should have been organised from the cruise ship port to Kirkenes so we didn't have to drag luggage on the road in deep snow which was really dangerous. Other than that, the trip was awesome overall. Trip was easy to book and pre-trip communication and organisation from contiki was stellar.

This trip was INCREDIBLE. Norway is such a beautiful, gorgeous country. Unfortunately, we did have a lot of cancellations of included and add-on events due to weather, so be prepared for this. Our tour manager was great and gave amazing recommendations for alternative plans if excursions were cancelled. It's really important to remember that this trip is extremely weather-based, so you have to make the best of what you get. We saw the Northern Lights on our last night, and a couple of humpback whales on the boat trip. Both of the boat trips were in rough seas and a lot of people got seasick, so if you're sensitive to that, this is probably not the trip for you. There are a lot of plane rides that take up a lot of time, but you have to remember that you're in such a remote and unique area that that's just part of the location. Despite the weather, it was absolutely amazing and definitely provided some insane moments and memories that I never would have had if not for Contiki. I would do this trip again in a heartbeat!!!
