FAQs

  • London: Travelling to (and through) the UK & Northern Ireland? You’ll need Essential Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)From January 8, 2025, UK law means that if you’re entering/transiting through border control in the United Kingdom (UK) and Northern Ireland you’ll need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before you travel. Confused? Don’t be – just read on here.
  • Hopfgarten im Brixental: Will I have a trip manager on this trip? There’s no trip manager on this trip. But don’t worry. If you have any questions during your stay, the on-site Winter Team at Hopfgarten will sort you out. They’ll give you all the info you need about the local village, things to do and recommendations for great local eateries too. (And you’ll also be introduced to your Contiki fam through them!). They might not be guides in the traditional sense, but you’ll see that they have everything you need for an epic ski experience.
  • Hopfgarten im Brixental: Where can I find more information on Ski lift passes and equipment hire?  Your lift pass and equipment hire can be arranged on arrival. Wanna know how much to budget? Check out our page about ski extras.
  • Hopfgarten im Brixental: How does the transfer work from the train station? When you get to Worgl Train Station, walk out the front and look for one of our Contiki Team – they will be on a classic Contiki Coach or a white van. The shuttles depart at 10:30am & 2:30pm – and luckily, you don’t need to pre book.
  • Hopfgarten im Brixental: I want to book the coach from London, how long will it take? Taking the coach from London is a super cost-effective way to get to the snowy slopes of Hopfgarten. Your journey will depart the Royal National Hotel in London in the early evening, and after an overnight ride, you’ll arrive in Hopfgarten at around 3pm the next day. At the end of your trip, you’ll depart from Hopfgarten in the early hours of the morning - anywhere between 2:30am – 4:30am (this depends on the ferry bookings). Oh and don’t worry, we’ve got your hunger pangs sorted with a wholesome packed breakfast for your journey! You’ll arrive in London at approximately 10:30pm. So you can plan some accommodation with the reservations team, or plan your travel ahead accordingly.
  • Hopfgarten im Brixental: How do I get from the accommodation to the slopes? Good news! We offer free daily shuttles to and from Haus Schöneck from 8am-10am (every ½ hour) and returning from 3pm-6pm (every ½ hour).
  • Hopfgarten im Brixental: Can I have dinner at the accommodation? Yes, of course! You can sign up for the Half Board option - which includes 2 courses of hearty home-cooked food, available for 10 nights. On the other nights of your stay, you’ll have the opportunity to explore local restaurants since the kitchen is closed. You can make the payment for that in the resort.
  • Hopfgarten im Brixental: Can I pay by card/apple pay? At Haus Schöneck, you’re welcome to pay by cash or card. But we highly recommend that you get some cash for the local restaurants. The Gasthofs on the mountain only accept cash sometimes. Forgot to bring cash? Don’t worry. There are 3 ATMs in the Hopfgarten.
  • Hopfgarten im Brixental: What is the ski area like? The Skiwelt Wilder Kaiser Brixental is one of Europe’s largest interconnected ski resorts. We’re talking over 270 kms of ski runs, 70 lifts & cable cars and 80 mountain huts. So, what’s the ski area like, you ask? Pretty darn awesome, we’d say.
  • Hopfgarten im Brixental: I have never skied or snowboarded before, can I book lessons? Yep! We highly recommend taking lessons, so you learn the right techniques and information (and can enjoy skiing the way you’re supposed to!). Group lessons start on a Sunday and can be booked for up to 3 days.Familiar with skiing but want a refresher? You can join intermediate and advanced lessons. You can take private lessons upon request too. We’ve been working with our local ski school for over 15 years. So you can only imagine how many of our travellers have taken lessons with them! If you’re on a Weekender trip, you might not be able to book a group lesson. But you’re always welcome to book a private one if you like.
  • London: Who will I room with if I book additional nights before my trip?  You'll stay in a Twin share room (meaning you'll be paired with a fellow traveller of the same gender, and will have two separate beds). If you're booking your trip with a friend/travel companion - just let us know, so we can join your bookings and ensure you share a room. Need a lil' more privacy? You're welcome to opt for a single supplement if you like.

Included Experience

  • Salzburg: Fill up your Insta feed with pics of this fairytale city. Complete with mountain views, hilltop castle and ‘chocolate-box’ buildings.

  • Hopfgarten im Brixental: Woo hoo! Here’s your official invite to a themed party at our exclusive Bar Schöneck.
  • Hopfgarten im Brixental: Perfect way to warm up after a long day of skiing? Lounging in a sauna, of course! And guess what? You'll have access to our very own sauna (open 4-9 PM) in the hostel. Yeeees!

Tour Operator

Contiki (CA)

Contiki is a New Zealand-based tour company that caters to 18 to 35-year-olds, offering over 350 different tours in over 75 countries in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, North America, South America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.[1] It is a subsidiary of The Travel Corporation. Its tours historically had a reputation for partying;[2][3] however, it also operates wellness trips culturally immersive experiences that focus less on alcohol, which are more popular with Generation Z.[4] The company owns lodging facilities in Europe, including the Chateau De Cruix, a 16th century castle in the Beaujolais wine region, and the Gasthof Schoneck in the Austrian Tyrol. The name "Contiki" comes from the portmanteau 'Con' from the word 'Continent' and 'Tiki'; from the Māori referring to the first man, often symbolised as a pendant known as hei-tiki. It can also be attributed to the New Zealand slang 'Tiki-tour' describing taking a longer route to a destination in order to explore.[5]

Very easy - was able to ask any questions prior to the trip but also the website was very clear! Everything was very easy, was able to be picked up from the train station to get to the accommodation. Loved the food and the staff were amazing!

The trip was reasonable thanks to my fellow travellers, but it isn’t your typical Contiki. I’ll start with the good things. The terrain is vast and you won't get bored on the mountain. Skiing in Austria is good value compared to Australia, New Zealand or North America. Now the not so great things. There is no trip manager for a start, so don't expect to be taken up the mountain and shown around each day, like is done on Contiki's Ski New Zealand. Where you stay in Hopfgarten is just a massive hostel run by Contiki that can accommodate up to 150 guests, there can be multiple Groups running at the same time, 4 day, 1 week and 2 week trips, this can make it hard to find your "crew" as the other travellers are coming and going. Be warned that although Contiki is 18-35, in the ski season people can book the accommodation through 3rd party websites to stay, so don’t be surprised if there are people over 35 at the bar or down at breakfast. Because of where you stay is out of town there isn’t really anywhere you can go for dinner, so you feel somewhat compelled to purchase dinner for €15 a night at the accommodation. It's reasonable value but the food in town is far better. Finally, the bus. If you have the option to fly into Innsbruck or Munich, do it! The bus ride is long, heading back to London you leave at 2:30AM and don’t get into London till around 9PM the following day. I hope this review is helpful to fellow travellers.

Booking was easy, I was disappointed I could not book a single room even though it appeared there was availability when I arrived at the hostel. The trip overall was good. Booking process and communication beforehand was easy. The staff on location were lovely and looked after us well. I would recommend contiki communicates the itinerary before the trip which includes all activities and cost for additional items especially ones that must be paid in cash. The bar at the hostel is good but is not explored to its full potential. Better music and activities to keep the group in the bar rather than go out would have been a plus. I was impressed with the quality and cleanliness of the hostel. In general it was a great trip that I would definitely go on or recommend to others.

What worked well : Doing a trip like this with a group of multiple levels of ski experience. Everyone in our group had a buddy who was on their level. What worked well : The food provided, breakfast and dinner was amazing but we were kind of guilt tripped into opting for dinners at 15 euro per day. What worked well : Bus shuttle to and from Woergl station. What did not work well : It was clear that our group had many beginners and Hopfgarten is not beginner/intermediate snowboard friendly. We figured out on our own that we can use a ski bus to Westerndorf that was included in our ski pass, but it would have been nice if the Contiki staff mentioned that if you want more blue slopes, go to Westerndorf with your ski pass via ski bus. We figured this out on our last day which was a pity. What did not work well : we were told by Contiki staff that the restaurants/bars and are cash only. I ended up withdrawing way too much cash for the trip. It is more of an exception than a rule that the restaurants/bars are cash only. Highlight of the trip : Night skiing at Soll.

Great trip, would 10/10 recommend! The food was amazing, staff was super helpful, and the ease of all the admin stuff (getting gear, buses to and from the hill, etc) was the best.

It did feel like I had to go through quite a few processes to book, but am unsure if that was just because it was my first time booking through contiki. Worth the process to book at the end of the day. Only downside is that I wish this trip was longer. Loads of fun with strangers who quickly turned into mates. Great facilities, great food and all round good time. Bar was good and they have lots of board and card games. No pool table unfortunately, as it would make an awesome addition to this property.
