Its tours historically had a reputation for partying;[2][3] however, it also operates wellness trips culturally immersive experiences that focus less on alcohol, which are more popular with Generation Z.[4] The company owns lodging facilities in Europe, including the Chateau De Cruix, a 16th century castle in the Beaujolais wine region, and the Gasthof Schoneck in the Austrian Tyrol. The name "Contiki" comes from the portmanteau 'Con' from the word 'Continent' and 'Tiki'; from the Māori referring to the first man, often symbolised as a pendant known as hei-tiki. It can also be attributed to the New Zealand slang 'Tiki-tour' describing taking a longer route to a destination in order to explore.[5]

Trip Manager was fantastic and made the trip thoroughly enjoyable. Bus drivers were very skilled and I was often impressed at their ability to navigate the tight roads. Had troubles booking additional day's stay at the hotel for both day before and day after trip. Booked post-trip hotel np but had to book with the hotel directly for the pre-trip stay.

Our tour managers were fantastic, providing valuable insights and ensuring everything ran smoothly. I loved exploring charming towns, enjoying delicious local cuisine, and connecting with fellow travelers. This trip truly exceeded my expectations! It's always very easy to book on the Contiki site. There's nothing I can recommend to make this process easier. Thanks!

I must start by saying—what an experience! I chose this Contiki tour because it’s more inclusive and focuses on a specific region, allowing for a more in-depth experience. Words don’t do it justice—in two simple words: “JUST WOW.” The accommodation was excellent, with all the hotels being clean and meeting a high standard, ensuring a comfortable and safe stay. Olivia Smyth (Liv), our Contiki Tour Guide, was incredible. She was extremely knowledgeable and went above and beyond to ensure we had an amazing experience. I’m so grateful for everything she did for our tour group. Managing a group of 52 travelers can be quite a challenge due to its size – yet, Liv handled it incredibly well. Liv continuously made an effort to get to know each one of us and ensure we were having a fantastic time. She organised additional activities like game nights, exclusive dinners, and engaging talks to make sure everyone was happy and enjoying the trip to the fullest. This trip had so many incredible elements, with each country standing out in its own unique way. Liv, our tour guide, was extremely knowledgeable and provided daily talks on the culture, history, food, and experiences of each place we visited. She made navigating so easy by providing us with daily digital sheets, complete with clickable maps. Montenegro was simply incredible! I absolutely loved everything about it—the beaches, the culture, and the food. It’s an underrated gem and quickly became one of my favorite destinations on this journey. This part of the tour was my “WOW” moment, a place I never expected to visit, but now I can’t wait to tell family and friends that they MUST go. Balazs and Christos, our coach drivers, did an outstanding job getting us to our destinations safely. The service was exceptional, the coach was immaculate, and the tour guide staff were incredibly professional and courteous. Everything ran smoothly with no delays. The only downside was being stuck at the Bosnia/Serbia border for nearly 12 hours—much longer than we had anticipated. Despite the long wait for 52 travellers, Balazs and Liv did an incredible job keeping everyone comfortable. We played games, watched movies, danced to the Macarena, and had lots of moments of laughter. It was a challenging experience for everyone, but now it’s something we can laugh about. Thank you for Liv for always finding the positives in a tough situation. I’m incredibly grateful to Liv, Balazs, and Christos for making my dreams come true and allowing me to experience the Balkans with such ease. This tour is an absolute MUST DO!

An overall excellent trip through a very underrated region of Europe. Liv was a fantastic trip manager. Split was the only destination which didn't really live up to expectations but the other cities were all fascinating and great to explore.

The accommodations were great, or as expected. The offered activities for this trip were incredible, the opportunity to dine with locals in Sarajevo is so special and meaningful. I loved going to lesser known areas as well within the countries we were in. I had a great time, although it is such a fast-paced trip and it seemed like most days should’ve just been considered “bus days” rather than an actual stop at a city. But you can tell from the itinerary it is go-go-go anyway. I had a great time and would definitely recommend it. The website isn’t the most user friendly, and the booking made me question a lot, not to mention my own credit card kept asking if the charges were fraudulent.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Best of Balkans tour. Tour manager was an absolute superstar from start to finish. Her endless knowledge of the region made the tour more than just a holiday, but a tour through time and what had taken places in various parts of the region. I was also fortunate enough to have a full bus of 50+ other travellers who made the trip unforgettable. Shoutout to my fellow travellers and the beautiful Balkans. Booking the trip was super easy and straight forward. No issues at all!

It was my first group trip so I had no expectations but I was really pleased. The only thing I would change is the fact that I didn't know this was a modular trip before joining and I would have liked to know that ahead of time. Super simple, very effective email communication.
